Taken at Myakka River State Park, Florida.

This beautiful hawk was perched just a few feet from the ground in a marshy clearing keeping a watchful look out for it's usual prey which includes small mammals, lizards, snakes, frogs, crayfish and insects.

Thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

I've never seen a Red-shouldered Hawk do what this one did today. It came down from the top of the tree, obviously with prey in its sights, right in front of a group of photographers. It then hovered right in front of us for seconds, landing on the bannister adjacent to the group, then flew back to the trees but landed upside down on a branch before taking off in embarrassment a few seconds later. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Back from our recent trip to Florida where we caught up with our friends Mark and Linda and enjoyed a few visits to the Circle B Bar Reserve.

Here are a couple of Red-shouldered Hawks taking time out in the shade during a very sunny and hot afternoon.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

The Black-shouldered Kite is monogamous unless its mate dies. In the event of a partner dying it will seek out a new mate.

This hawk was photographed at Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida. In my part of Florida, the red-shouldered hawk is by far the most prevalent hawk species. We have some Cooper's hawks and some red-tailed hawks and you might occasionally see a short-tailed hawk but I'd estimate that around 95% of our hawks are red-shouldered.

Madeline has been enjoying breakfast in the sunshine.

The tails must be the best bit because they are always the last to go down

It was great to see the pair of Black-shouldered Kites back in the Sneydes Rd area this morning. I observed them collecting nesting material again.

I will be back later to catch up - got to run for now.

Down the hatch. Swallowing the lizard's tail.

Thanks so much for the visit!

Another day, another storm.

Just before the rain set in, a little break of sunlight set the Kite against the approaching storm clouds.

south meadows trail. i think you can see feathers stuck to its beak from its last meal.

i saw this beast a few days ago--drove right by it, but when I got out of the car, it flew to a higher perch.

yesterday, i realized it wasn't afraid of my car, so i just rolled up to it, rolled down the window and started blasting.

Thanks for Viewing

I still get so excited when Elvis (Red-shouldered hawk) comes to visit. I don't take photos of him every time he visits even though I would like to. This image is from a recent visit but not the most recent since he was here yesterday.

I hope your Monday is magnificent. Happy snapping.

My new photography/birding friend watched the chicks take flight from the nest yesterday. How cool! I've never even got to see that in my decade of watching them.

Thanks for Viewing.
