90037 on a warmer, but still hand-crampingly cold Sunday, with a London Euston - Manchester Piccadilly turn. The STP is seen 87 miles and 47 chains into its journey at Brinklow, where the Oxford Canal is just starting to thaw-out.

Sunday's can be a quiet day, but I thought I'd check to see what was going to be running, if anything. Going on a hunch that Brinklow might be worth a try for a pan, I searched to see if anything interesting would be working, which to my surprise and delight, in equal measures, there was. Unfortunately I managed to miss a Crewe - Daventry light move which, even though it was running 26 late, arrived just as I was wandering down the slope at Rose Narrow Boats. Still, I managed to console myself that I might get an interesting shot with my planned train, and so kept myself busy doing warm-up shots on some Pendolino's.

Upon finding myself halfway between the narrow boat yard and the next bridge to the north-west, I decided that the shot was just too damn boring, and so headed back to the yard, which turned out to be a lucky move, as the composition turned out a hell of a lot better. Unfortunately there's a bridge turret obscuring part of the loco (one buffer), but I'll take that one on the chin.
