This is fully zoomed on my phone, the camera is certainly amazing on this. The light was low yet its picked up the colours brilliantly no editing done!xx
Sometimes it is the clouds that draw me towards a sunset but this was just the colours. This one is just about how it came out of the camera, the only thing that I have done to it is remove a light that was in the foreground everything else is down to the camera.
The Traveller’s joy has nothing to do with British Railways but is one of the names of the Wild Clematis (Clematis vitalba). It is a vigorous climber that grow in abundance alongside roads and railway tracks barely visible here in the background. It flowers in white in summer, and decorates countryside hedgerows and trees with silvery balls of white feathery seadheads in late autumn and winter months. It looks beautiful on a dull day and spectacular in the sun for the joy of passers-by. Taken from Dundas Aqueduct. Somerset, England, UK.
Thank you for your visit, favours and comments, much appreciated.

Watching the sunset in New York was definitely one of my favourite moments from this trip. Fighting for position meant that I wasn't able to use a long exposure or mess too much with settings for my piccys :o( I do however feel we took in the moment and it's one we will treasure.

An awesome red sunset shot in Phuket, Thailand with an amazing red sunburst reflecting the sun's brilliant last rays through the skies and over the water / ocean.
The birds are flying home to their nests before this pretty red glow changes to the darkness of night.
Now, the astute observers amongst you will probably discern two bridges in this view rather than one. It's just that the smaller, railway bridge behind the road bridge, rarely gets referred too in its own right. People refer to 'Wearmouth Bridge' or sometimes 'the bridges' (not to be confused with 'The Bridges' which is the name of the city's indoor shopping complex!)... are you keeping up?
Anyway, bridges aside, this was taken on the last weekend of Summer when the sun appeared to be signing off for the darker (and colder) evening's ahead.
This was the beautiful view of the sunset from Rozenhoedkaai looking towards the Belfry.
The belfry of Bruges, or Belfort, is a medieval bell tower in the historical centre of Bruges, Belgium. One of the city's most prominent symbols, the belfry formerly housed a treasury and the municipal archives, and served as an observation post for spotting fires and other danger. A narrow, steep staircase of 366 steps, accessible by the public for an entry fee, leads to the top of the 83-metre-high building, which leans about a metre to the east.
To the sides and back of the tower stands the former market hall, a rectangular building only 44 m broad but 84 m deep, with an inner courtyard. The belfry, accordingly, is also known as the Halletoren (tower of the halls).
The building is a central feature of the 2008 film In Bruges.
The belfry was added to the market square around 1240, when Bruges was prospering as an important centre of the Flemish cloth industry. After a devastating fire in 1280, the tower was largely rebuilt. The city archives, however, were forever lost to the flames.
The octagonal upper stage of the belfry was added between 1483 and 1487, and capped with a wooden spire bearing an image of Saint Michael, banner in hand and dragon underfoot. The spire did not last long: a lightning strike in 1493 reduced it to ashes, and destroyed the bells as well. A wooden spire crowned the summit again for some two-and-a-half centuries, before it, too, fell victim to flames in 1741. The spire was never replaced again, thus making the current height of the building somewhat lower than in the past; but an openwork stone parapet in Gothic style was added to the rooftop in 1822.
A poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, titled "The Belfry of Bruges," refers to the building's checkered history:
In the market-place of Bruges stands the belfry old and brown;
Thrice consumed and thrice rebuilded, still it watches o'er the town.
...the sky was exactly this colour! It was a beautiful cold, crisp afternoon and the sky was absolutely gorgeous...it was so red. I'm sure the shepherds would have been delighted!

Some of these settings have been made with shadows in mind, some before, most of them attempt to emulate 'Magic Hour', the first and last hour of sunlight during the day when the quality of the light and shadows (long) is perfect for cinematography.
Conrad Hall said that "Manipulating shadows and tonality is like writing music or a poem.... There are infinite shadings of light and shadows and colors... it's an extraordinarily subtle language. Figuring out how to speak that language is a lifetime job."
I leave you with some other thoughts on shadows.
"Most people think that shadows follow, precede or surround beings or objects. The truth is that they also surround words, ideas, desires, deeds, impulses and memories."
Elie Wiesel
"what is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset." - Anthony Ferrer
"To contemplate is to look at shadows."
Victor Hugo

Red sky at night, shepherd's delight.
Red sky in the morning, shepherds take warning.
If the morning skies are red, it is because clear skies to the east permit the sun to light the undersides of moisture-bearing clouds coming in from the west. Conversely, in order to see red clouds in the evening, sunlight must have a clear path from the west in order to illuminate moisture-bearing clouds moving off to the east.
So when I noticed the sky literally explode with shades of red while I was driving through the Little Karoo on Friday evening, I smiled to myself and thought… Great, the weather-guys had it wrong… it’s going to be a nice day tomorrow!!
It rained the whole day long on Saturday!!!

I would have though this was impossible. Looking west, I guess, from my accommondation, Kernow, at Charters Towers, the sky was redder than I've ever seen it. This is a shot from my iPhone and it looks pretty much exactly as I saw it. I haven't added any color enhancement post processing to this. I only wish I'd had the gumption to go for a walk and see if I could get a bigger view of it without the fences, lights, buildings and tree in the way. Still, it is what it is and I'll remember this for a very long time.
