Lately, more than ever before, I happen to perceive the everyday, the so-called “ reality”, as conceptually distorted. Hence, in an effort to depict the widespread social and cultural distortions I perceive, I continue my quest, assembling or re-assembling lenses that can depict my inner perception accordingly.
In this case I am experimenting with an old and modified Bell and Howell projector lens.
The lens original focal length (f2.5) is a mere 2 inch, but after modification it covers a 4x5 format. When I say “cover” I am obviously not talking “corner to corner sharpness” as many of my esteemed colleagues appear keen to seek in their optics: quite the opposite, in fact. This prototype I built is only sharp in the very middle of the frame, hence the photograph needs to be composed accordingly.
The rest of the image looks more like an experiment with Psychotropic drugs as the level of distortion and funky, crazy bokeh exceeds any expectations of optical sobriety.
And that’s exactly what I am looking for.
I called this lens “the poor man’s PLASTICCA” as the center sharpness fading into the “unknown” softness recalls a bit that vintage and nowadays extremely expensive large format lens.
These are portrait experiments created with it, using a Speed Graflex at roughly 1/700th shutter speed. There is a yellow filter at the back of the lens and the image is recorded on x-ray film (green) rated at 200 ASA.
Had to run into Richmond for something and while I was there, stopped by the Nature Park. It was quite glorious sitting in the sunshine watching the birds at the feeders and while doing that, this lovely hawk dropped by for a visit. I think Chickadee was on his lunch menu. He left the area empty taloned and still hungry.

This photo was taken outside the Portland Leisure Centre, so I can only assume this was on some swimming contract for a school... The driver must have a good book or a film on his phone to keep him from boredom because I can remember the swimming lessons I had at school taking a whole afternoon!
New to Dublin Bus as their AV130, registered as 00-D-70130. Unusually, for a Dublin ALX400, this bus was specified with bonded glazing, a standard driver's windscreen and centre exit door, the latter of which was removed when Sharpes aquired this bus in 2015 via Mc Gonagle's of Buncrana.

Every photon that hits my Nikon D800e's sensor does it by surfing the fourth expanding dimension, which is moving at c relative to the three spatial dimensions, or dx4/dt=ic!

[There were some spots from camera defect on the sky - thanks for spotting them 8) - I removed them so the markings on the sky should not show anything strange anymore. In case somebody wonders what they should find there.. Perhaps there is a way to remove the markings? Somewhere? )

John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
The vulture at the yorkshire wildlife park coming into land on a post just out of shot , it was quick and i was slow hence the cropping of the wings but it does quite work ?
Somehow I caught a Tufted titmouse just after it launched itself off of a bird feeder. A great combination of sharp detail on the body with blurred action on the wings.
Another early morning treck....I found myself at the docks in Sharpness......
