SCOUT: "Oh look Paddy! A lovely pond! Isn't the water a pretty blue?"
PADDY: "Oh yes it is, Scout!"
SCOUT: "Do you think Daddy would mind taking a picture of us in front of the pretty pond, Paddy?"
PADDY: "I'm sure he would, Scout. Daddy likes taking photographs of us anywhere." *Giggles.*
SCOUT: "That's true, Paddy." *Giggles too.*
DADDY: "What are you two giggling about?"
PADDY: "Oh, nothing Daddy."
SCOUT: "But Daddy? Daddy!"
DADDY: "Yes, Scout?"
SCOUT: *Shyly.* "Well, I was wondering whether you would mind taking a photo of Paddy and me in front of this pretty pond." *Hopeful.*
DADDY: "Oh, I'd love to, Scout. Alright, stand together now, Paddy and Scout."
PADDY and SCOUT: "Yes Daddy!"
DADDY: "Now when I count to three, say 'grumbly tummies', alright?"
PADDY and SCOUT: "Yes Daddy!"
DADDY: "Alright! One.. two..." *Face pales and mouth falls open.*
PADDY: "Daddy, are you alright? You've gone pale all of a sudden!" *Concerned.*
SCOUT: "Daddy! Daddy! You forgot to say 'three'. Three comes after two you know!" *Disgruntled.*
DADDY: "Umm... I... I don't want to alarm you, Paddy and Scout... but..."
PADDY and SCOUT: "But Daddy?"
DADDY: "But there is a big shark behind you with sharp teeth!"
PADDY: "A big shark?"
SCOUT: "With sharp teeth?"
DADDY: "Yes!" *Scared.*
PADDY and SCOUT: *Turn and see big shark with sharp teeth.*
DADDY: "Eeeekkkk! Run Paddy and Scout!"
PADDY and SCOUT: "Eeeekkkk!"
DADDY, PADDY and SCOUT: *Run away to safety.*
SHARK: "Where did everybear go? I was just going to smile for the photograph! Humph!" *Grumbles and sinks back down into his pond.*
It's alright! No bears were harmed in the taking of this photo!
It was a fine, but cold, day a few weeks ago, so I decided to take advantage of the nicer weather and take some of my bear clan to a wonderful miniature golf range, which has popped up along the Yarra River in Docklands. The little course, installed beneath a life size Ferris wheel along the corniche, features a range of animals (including the mechanical shark above), a Melbourne skyline and even a working bear size Ferris wheel! It was too wonderful an opportunity to refuse, and I’m so pleased to have given them all the opportunity to have some fun and play. I think the young builders on a nearby site were both amused and perplexed as they watched the bears and I playing together. Perhaps they have never seen such well behaved and tenacious bears before.
My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
A six story tall vertical waterslide that ends in a shark tank...don't worry they're completely real!

SAP Center
San Jose, California, USA
eXPERIENCE & iNNOCENCE Tour
I took this HDR shot of the SAP Center at San Jose during the National Anthem before the San Jose Sharks game on December 9th. Considering it was handheld, it came out pretty well. Copyright: Sweezey Pictures/Ken Sweezey.
I made this flier (flyer?) for Terrorbird Media and it flys! If you're in NYC Oct. 19th come check out this show.
These sky lights are part of the University of Washington's Law School building, also called the "shark tank"
Thankfully, this is no underwater photography but behind-the-glass-of-the-sharktank photography in Mote Aquarium in Sarasota. Very enjoyable observations of these rehabilitated sharks.
On the bottom right is a giant grouper, I mean really giant.
The Golden Nugget in Downtown Las Vegas has this incredible pool with a shark tank in the center with a water slide/tube going through the middle of the shark tank. Pretty cool stuff!
Golden Nugget's newest attraction featuring exotic marine life.
The notorious Golden Nugget pool is now The Tank – a $30 million complex complete with a shark tank, a 3-story waterslide and thirteen private cabanas. Get up close with some of the oceans’ sleekest and deadliest beings. Or climb 30 feet in the air, lean back and let gravity show you an exciting ride through The Tank in Golden Nugget's secured waterslide. This experience is unparalleled. After swimming with the sea creatures, dry off and enjoy a drink at H2O Bar.

Thank you very much everyone! :)
Only two of us this evening, plus the two instructors..
So after practising some 'drills' - footwork, combining hits and movement.. (Being careful with H as she has a broken finger, hence keeping one arm behind her back..)
The guys decided to 'sharktank' me!
That means, I am in the middle, then one after another they fight with me for two mins at a time. I get no rest, each of them only fight for two mins.. That went on for ten minutes!!
Works on stamina (mine) and coping with fatigue, trying not to tense up, trying to place shots as opposed to just wacking!!
They were gentl-ish with me!!
I survived..
The bruising will come out tomorrow!!

During our recent trip to the Outer Banks, my good friend Mark VanDyke and I visited the North Carolina Aquarium in Manteo NC on Roanoke Island on a day when we had poor weather for anything else. The shark aquarium is always my favorite part of the aquarium, as I find sharks to be truly amazing creatures.
I always enjoy the challenge of shooting these type of shots in dark places like this, and this was the hardest aquarium yet that I have visited. It was extremely dark and required a lot of panning with slow shutter speeds at fairly high ISO settings. Getting a sharp shot in these conditions requires a good panning technique and camera settings that make the best compromises, and getting a quality image requires a camera that handles higher ISO settings well. The Nikon D700 was made for high ISO use, and I think the results were excellent considering what we were working with. Click the image to view it large! Hope you enjoy it, faves and comments are appreciated! ;-)

I took this shot on my way to work this morning. It's the new(ish) Law School building at the University of Washington. This is straight out of the camera with no Photoshop except downsizing and sharpening for the web. Being an available light shooter, it's so rare that I come home with something that doesn't need a little (or a lot) of tweaking. I would not, however, change a single setting for this shot. There's a lot of interesting lines in this image, the white balance reflects the real life colors, and the moon is in the second most perfect spot. I think I'll probably clone out all the cigarette butts and possibly add some vignetting, but aside from that, I am totally pleased with this capture.
I captured this image of the downtown area of San Jose on an early morning flight out of SJC. You can see the Shark Tank where the San Jose Sharks play in the center. It was San Jose Arena originally, then Compac Center, then HP Pavilion and now SAP Center. The McEnery Convention Center is on the left.

"SAP Center" is what I believe the city is calling this Arena where the San Jose Sharks play now.
