Shanghai film is so bad, you sometimes get the backing paper transposed onto the negative

"Shorelines" Series

I have posted a shot of the same subject matter twice to demonstrate the impact that lighting conditions can have on a negative and the final image.

I initially set up the RB67 with the intention of shooting this subject in a portrait perspective but I forgot to rotate the back of film back.

Both shots were taken at the same setting ... f22.0 @ 1/2 second. Mamiya RB67 & Shanghai GP3 100

The only thing that changed was the lighting conditions as a cloud moved in for this first shot and the subject was in a light shade & even light.

For me, the detail in this image just blew me away, especially when I compared it to the second shot, which I have posted above. This shot also gets me excited about working further with this Shanghai & Rodinal combo as this is a straight scan from the negative, no photoshop and the details just knock my socks off !!!

Which one do you like better?
