A Shaman's life is all about spit....spitting out malevolent spirits or spitting so they cant get in...It's tricky. And the couture was all about locally sourced animal bits.

“Beware the God who seeks praise. Beware the guru who presumes to teach that which is unfixed and boundless. Beware the healer who sets a price on aid. Beware the lover who would make you a lesser version of yourself. Beware the doctrines that discourage independent thought.
Beware any person of faith who doesn’t understand doubt. Filter all things through yourself. Accept only that which sits right with your soul.”

Guided by nature.
Bound to its soul.
I rejoice in its life,
I suffer with its pain.
Mother…
Show me the path.
Lead me into wisdom.
The elements fuel my power.
For my power is not muscle,
nor strength alone.
My power is all around me.

Warriors, besides being men who risked their lives, also participated in shamanic activities, since the shaman acted as a warrior when faced evil spirits.

Panzaleo o Cosanga – Píllaro
(400 a.C. – 1532 d.C.)
Under this classificatory name archaeologists have grouped not exactly a culture, but a minor ceramic component of wide distribution, as a rule associated with materials of different ceramic traditions. Vessels of these characteristics appear throughout the Northern and Central Highlands of Ecuador, as well as in the Amazonian area of Quijos. Their distribution suggests a close relation between both areas, the manufacture site being the eastern slopes of the so-called Royal Cordillera.
As far as technology is concerned, the walls are thin and the surface finish has been very carefully done, not to mention the metallic sound. The vessels are of different shapes. The big spheric pots are the most interesting. Many of the latter were ornamented with human faces often represented as “chewing coca” (chagchando coca), and ocasionally covered with masks. Others show unique motives such as tzantzas or “shrunken heads”.
Apparently these potters were a group of specialists in the exchange of products and services, specially those staples from the Amazon valley (e.g. hallucinogenic plants) and shamanic knowledge.

Hidden in the hills of south-central Bhutan, Berti Village is a small and remote rural community rarely visited by travelers. Known mainly among birdwatchers, it felt untouched when I arrived—so much so that I was the only tourist in the village. As we wandered through its quiet paths, the steady beat of drums carried through the air. I asked Rinzin, my guide, what we were hearing. He listened for a moment and explained that a ritual was likely taking place in a nearby home. Drawn by the sound, we followed it to a house where a shaman was performing a healing ceremony for one of the family’s children. I asked kindly if I could take some photographs. Without hesitation, the family opened their door and allowed me to observe. I remained at the threshold, careful not to enter the room, wanting to respect both the ritual and the intimacy of the moment. Smoke drifted softly in the dim light as the drum continued its measured rhythm. It was one of those rare travel moments when observation turns into connection—quiet, unspoken, and deeply human. Long after leaving Berti Village, the memory has remained one of the most powerful of my journey through Bhutan. Later, Rinzin explained that in rural communities, traditional healing practices still coexist naturally with modern medicine. He reassured me that the child’s injury was only a minor ankle problem and that the family would seek hospital care if necessary. In that room, however, tradition, belief, and hope were enough.

This Shaman is practicing a Mayan ritual in a Catholic chapel. Mayan spirituality in Guatemala is still very much a presence, particularly in the highlands, along with Catholicism and the more recent incursions of Evangelical Christianity.
