Our annual Women and Men Making a Difference Luncheon was held on October 9, 2015 at the Colville Community College. Tom Thelen, bullying prevention speaker, was this year's keynote. Tom also traveled to four schools to provide anti-bullying assemblies. The four schools (Wellpinit, Springdale, Valley and Colville) also received his book, DVD and curriculum. Wo+men Making a Difference raises funds for Rural Resources Victim Services and Kids First Children's Advocacy Center. Without the support of our community, we could not provide the breadth of services currently available. Thank you to all who support our mission of ending abuse in Stevens and Ferry Counties!

A group of students from Columbia High School in Hunters, WA created a multi-session sexual assault prevention program that the group is delivering to their peers. The first day of presentations incorporates the story of Serria, a courageous survivor of childhood sexual abuse. The "Three Awesome Girls from CHS" dispel myths about rape and explain the continuum of violence. On the second day (pictured here) students rotate between two centers. Centers include: WCSAP Spin & Discuss Game and "Things to Know Before You Say Go" Sort-a-Stack activity. The goal: prevent sexual violence by addressing underlying causes. Topics covered include: boundary setting, respecting consent, healthy relationships and more.

Columbia High School group continues their peer education project. Today they spoke to the senior high school about the dynamics of sexual violence and the continuum of violence. Guest speaker, Serria, shared her personal story of triumph and recovery after sexual abuse. The presentation wrapped up with a discussion about consent. The audience used WCSAP SAAM "Yes Means Yes ____ Means No" cards and came up with a variety of ways to say 'no.' Tomorrow, Megan, Jessica and Payton will facilitate learning centers where participants will learn about healthy relationships, consent, seeking help and more.

automatically generated text: A goose being force-fed, La Ferme du Treil, Courbiac de Tournon, France, Monday, November 22, 2010.

A tube is inserted into the bird's oesophagus and maize mash is pumped down the tube. Farmer Bernard Laverge massages the goose's neck to encourage ingestion. The process takes less than a minute per bird.

At the start of the force-feeing programme, each goose receives 300g of maize per day. By the end of the three week feeding period, the daily quantity of maize fed has risen to 1.4 kg. An average goose weighs between 7 and 8 kg.
