Washington DC, October 4, 2018. Thousands gathered here today for a rally and march to oppose the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. The very large, diverse* and energized crowd of protesters assembled at the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Court House and then marched to the U.S. Supreme Court for a rally with speeches. Judge Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual assault by at least three women and of lying to Congress numerous times by many prominent legislators. Today's action is a continuation of weeks of nationwide non-violent protests against Kavenaugh that have resulted in over a thousand arrests. Over three hundred were arrested in the Hart Senate Office Building atrium just this evening. Despite the best efforts of the protesters it is expected that the morally bankrupt Senate Republicans will stumble Kavenaugh's confirmation over the finish line on Friday or Saturday. Why? Kavanaugh will compliantly hand President Donald J. Trump a "get out of jail free" card if an anticipated and much deserved impeachment proceeding is launched when the balance of power in Congress shifts to the Democrats.
*Women led the way by far in numbers and were the chief organizers, the most militant and the most arrested.
"Dominic Strauss-Kahn is a powerful global figure who has been accused of a string of sexual offences and is still under investigation for his role in a prostitution ring. By inviting him to speak, the Cambridge Union risks colluding with attitudes that condone or trivialise violence against women. Ironically the event comes one day after International Women's Day (8th March) when people around the globe will be taking action on sexual and other violence against women." - Holly Dustin, Director of the End Violence Against Women Coalition
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a representative from CARDV (Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence) educated William Woods students about domestic violence prevention and how to create awareness of the issue. This LEAD event took place on Oct. 14, in the Ivy Room on the lower level of Tucker Dining Hall.
In addition, the students learned about different situations the victims of domestic violence are in and the struggles they endure.
The event concluded with students painting canvases with facts and quotes for CARDV to display.
Domestic Violence Awareness is the national philanthropy of Alpha Chi Omega, one of the four sororities on the William Woods campus.

Washington DC, October 6 2018. Thousands gathered in front of the U.S. Supreme Court to oppose the imminent confirmation of Judge Brent Kavanaugh to the position of Associate Justice by the Senate. A smaller group sat down on the Capitol steps and over a hundred were arrested when they refused to move. A still smaller group of spirited protesters packed the Senate Gallery and punctuated the shameful proceedings below with shouted chants and commentary until they too were hustled out with some arrests. As predicted, Kavanaugh was confirmed by two votes, one of the smallest margins in the history of the Court.
In a morning tweet President Trump boasted that "Women for Kavanaugh, and many others" supporting his nominee were "gathering all over Capitol Hill" but I counted only twenty five at best. Going forward we await the pushback against Trump and his Republican supporters at the polls this November and beyond.
24% (1 in 4) of Colorado women and 6% (1 in 17) Colorado men have experienced a completed or attempted sexual assault in their life time. That is equal to over 11,000 men and women each year who have experienced a sexual assault in Colorado. Unfortunately, only 16% of rapes are reported to Colorado law enforcement

Naval Support Activity Bethesda (NSAB) members gave presentions, including dancing and poetry recitation, during Denim Day on April 25 in the rotunda Walter Reed National Military Medical Center's historic Bldg. 1. Denim Day is a yearly event inspired by a court case in Italy that brought attention the problem of victim-blaming, where victims of sexual assault are accused of wearing clothing that was "too tight" or "too revealing."
