...Said everyone's favourite Borg Seven of Nine after smoking some... No, no, not what you think ;) But this semi-translucent, lavender-coloured fluorite, which consists of many cubic shaped crystals with many #corners, has always reminded me of a Borg cube. Albeit a rather psychedelic, flower power, rock'n'roll-type of Borg cube, because the way the cubic crystals are shaped and arranged also conveys a certain kind of cheerful chaos. And lavender also definitely isn't your typical Borg colour. Which makes this a peace and love hippie Borg cube :)

Photographed with the M.Zuiko 30mm F3.5 macro lens, the 60mm's little brother. Unlike the 60mm, which is a "true" macro lens with a 1:1 magnification, the 30mm gives you a magnification of 1,25 (2,5 in the MFT world). The fantastic Laowa 50mm Ultra Macro lens offers even more magnification (Goodbye extension tubes!), and it's still on my list, but Olympus – or rather OM System, as the company is called now – had a lens promotion, so I was able to get this already very affordable lens literally dirt-cheap, so I went for it. It's not a pro lens like the 60mm, it's all plastic, no weather sealing etc., but it supports the in-camera focus stacking function, and together with the 16mm extension tube and the Raynox DCR-250 close-up lens (which I've both used for this shot) it's only as long as the 60mm without any extensions. And last, but not least, the image quality is excellent, too. Of course it won't replace my trusty 60mm, but it's a great addititon to it with its extra magnification (and the length of this technical description gives away that I still had to justify the purchase for myself, because Santa had already brought me another new lens). The minimum focusing distance is a mere 14 cm (5,51 inches) which means that you can get really close to your photographic subject, and with extension tubes and close-up lens mounted that focusing distance shrinks considerably once again. In fact, for this image I was so close that the Raynox close-up lens actually touched the upper part of the fluorite. Soft light from above prevented shading from the lens (to which it is prone also without extensions due to the super short focusing distance). P.S. Thank you wolli s for the tip to slightly oil the subject after dusting it to keep it lint-free, it works!

Currently: Crew member aboard the Federation Starship U.S.S. Voyager in Delta Quadrant.
Seven of Nine was the only surviving drone of the Borg Cube that attempted to assimilate the Federation Starship Voyager. With the help of the Voyager crew, Seven gradually regained a nearly human appearance and adopted more human values - even taking pride in her own individuality and becoming a member of the crew.

Dark Phoenix: I do not know who this is. I wrote 'Hulk' on the application because only he can survive proximity to me. This is not that Hulk.
Hulk Hogan: Lemme tell ya somethin' Lil Penny, brother!! I'm down with the struggle, my man!!

Hulk Hogan: The... never mind! Lil Penny, brother, you want to know how we teamed up?? Well the immortal Hulk Hogan was kicked back at his condo, doing reps with like 50,000 pounds with the largest arms in the world when I sensed great power! Hulk Hogan: I don't know why all these other losers showed up! Listen, when Dark Phoenix rises from Tuscon and showers her mighty flame power over this back yard, only the Hulkster's gonna survive! Then the Hulk and the Dark Phoenix are gonna slam some ribs and steaks on the grill and celebrate Labor Day like it should be! Whatcha gonna DO, Lil Penny, when the Hulkster-Dark Phoenix express run wild on YOU???
Lil Penny: Sooo... what meat were you going to prepare again?
Dark Phoenix: I may consume him first.
Lil Penny: Storm and the Martian Manhunter! We oughta call you the 'cape team'. I'm not sure how well capes go with outdoor grillin, but whatcha got?
Storm: Brisket!!!
Martian Manhunter: Yeess, we will prepare the brisket.
Storm: I will summon all of my elemental powers!!! My Martian ally shall utilize his mighty Martian abilities!! This BRISKET shall not fail!!!!
Martian Manhunter: We are preparing brisket.
Lil Penny: Brisket! Got it! Now you two get after it! (Think I'm gonna change your name to the 'drama' team.)

And here is this year's panel of judges! They are waiting patiently for those empty plates to get FILLED UP with BBQ and all the fixins!
First, if you're here in Paprihaven then you know the train that brought you, and from the vast crew that manages the 27 trains that brings us all together is Seven of Nine!* Seven of Nine says she's ready to assimilate some good cookin!
Next, everyone's favorite home cook with her show on our very own Paprihaven 35, it's Aunt May! Aunt May says, "Gimme that old style flavor!"
And finally, it's that strongman from another world! He's supposed to be an enemy to the GI Joe Adventure team, but he's so short he can be in our set here, the Intruder Warrior! Intruder Warriors says... well he really just grunts a lot.
And, honestly folks, Aunt May's not dead! She just looks that way!
“As the first American woman to travel into space, Sally (Ride) was a national hero and a powerful role model,” President Barack Obama said in a statement released shortly after her death. “She inspired generations of young girls to reach for the stars and later fought tirelessly to help them get there by advocating for a greater focus on science and math in our schools."
Ms Ride paved the way for all the real life women of space. The fictional women of space were mostly written by men and evolved slowly from the scantily clad creatures of the thirties and forties and the mini-skirted Starfleet officers of the sixties to the strong female characters of the current season of Star Trek: Discovery such as Michael Burnham, Admiral Cornwell, Philippa Georgiou, Sylvia Tilly and Jett Reno.
In spite of the total objectification of her physical attributes, one of the strongest female characters and my favourite Star Trek female was Seven of Nine. Her backstory was explained during the course of Star Trek: Voyager. She was born on the Tendara Colony on Stardate 25479 to Magnus and Erin Hansen, and was named Annika. At the age of four, her parents were given the USS Raven by Starfleet to help them investigate the presence of an unknown species in deep space. This trip lasted for three years during which time they encountered the Borg and using a transwarp conduit, followed a cube to the Delta Quadrant where the three of them were assimilated by the Borg.
As an adult Annika was separated from the Borg hive and eventually became a member of the Voyager crew. Watching her daily struggle regaining her individuality made the series for me. Today Daisy takes the roll of Seven of Nine (full Borg designation: Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01). I didn't have to do anything to her leotard but change the colour. The badge and Borg implants are products of GIMP surgery.
