The cliffs are known as the Seven Sisters due to the seven hilltops that make up the silhouette of the cliffs. The bright white colour of the stone is due to the amount of chalk that makes up most the front of the cliffs.

View of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, at dusk from one of the seven hills the city is built on. Seven hills seems to be a magic number, claimed after the original in Rome, similar to the cliche of a a city being Venice of the north, the east, the Americas, my ass, or whatever. Below is a link to the list of contenders claiming to be a city built on 7 hills, some (OK, most) of them are laughable, but Plovdiv is more plausible than most:

One of the strangest sights I've ever seen yesterday, but also one of most encouraging. This is The Severn Sins, which had beached so it could pick up. a lost container ( one of eleven that broke free) that washed up on the beach last weekend. I imagined I could help it relaunch :))) I haven't got. a song called Severn Sins, so Seven Curses by Tom Russel is as close as I can get.
