After trying out about 20 places this Common Blue male has decided on his spot for the night. Which means I can now take as many shots as I like, and I did.
First settled by United Empire Loyalists in the 1780s, The Old Town has a wealth of architecture from different periods and in different styles. Older buildings reflect St. Catharines history as an industrial and agricultural centre on the Welland Canal
I have gone past this old house on the Molson Chesaw Road many times in my Washington State adventures, but it never really stood out to me. Normally, this area of the Okanogan Highlands is very dry and brown. A few days ago, I once again was in the area and the old house looked different, maybe it was the angry clouds or the tall green grass that drew me in to stopping. I parked and walked up and down the road as I took a few shots from different angles. I settled on this shot as I think it conveys more of the mood I was looking for.
A bit of fog settled in this evening after a storm went through. This marks the end to another weekend. Have a great week ahead everyone :-)

There is a serene and settled majesty to woodland scenery that enters into the soul and delights and elevates it, and fills it with noble inclinations.

Could have used a bit of oxygen at Machu Picchu but settled for a hand-up from one of the Peruvian guides accompanying us. Probably hold off on climbing Everest for another lifetime : )
(For a fascinating and humorous armchair tour of this world heritage site, pick up a copy of “Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time” by Mark Adams)

More than 7,000 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains, Machu Picchu is the most visited tourist destination in Peru.
Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, it’s renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and panoramic views.
Its exact former use remains a mystery. A symbol of the Incan Empire and built around 1450AD, Machu Picchu was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
Machu Picchu is made up of more than 150 buildings ranging from baths and houses to temples and sanctuaries.
The compound contains more than 100 separate flights of stairs. Most of the individual staircases were carved from one slab of stone.
Although many of the stones that were used to build the city were more than 50 pounds, it is believed that no wheels were used to transport these rocks up the mountain. Rather, it is thought that hundreds of men pushed the heavy rocks up the steep mountain side.
Many different theories exist about Machu Picchu’s purpose—a royal estate and a secret ceremonial center among them.
The Incas were some of the best masons in the world. The structures were so well built with a technique called ashlar (stones that are cut to fit together without mortar) that not even a knife blade can fit in between stones.
Machu Picchu was only known locally until Yale Professor Hiram Bingham re-discovered the site in 1911. His book, The Lost City of the Incas, was based on his findings.
Machu Picchu was an astronomical observatory, and its sacred Intihuatana stone accurately indicates the two equinoxes. Twice a year, the sun sits directly over the stone creating no shadow.
Unfortunately, most cities built by the Inca civilization were destroyed by the Spanish conquest. Machu Picchu was in a hidden location—invisible from below—and not found, making it one of the most well-preserved Inca cities and an archeological gem.

Settled down on the steep slopes below the Pendeen lighthouse and watched the waves as they kept coming endlessly and crushing on the rocks below.
Settled by the Norsemen in the 9th century, legend has it this was the centre of resistance when the Norman Conquest arrived.

This guy/gal would not be silenced and caused quite a ruckus that could be heard for miles, but finally settled down when the mate came in.
Have a wonderful day everyone and as always thank you for visiting, it is very much appreciated.
A group of beeches have settled in the middle of a spruce forest. They can hardly be seen all year round and disappear in the crowd, but now, in autumn, things suddenly look very different.
While the forest floor is covered with green moss everywhere, the fallen leaves of the beech trees have formed an orange-red carpet that can be seen from afar.
Those are the spots I look for as I roam the woods. Once I have found such a place, the search for the "right" perspective begins. It can happen that I just wander around in circles for 20 minutes without even taking the camera out of my backpack.
Sometimes I just move on (usually with some regret) because I just can't find a way to create a harmonious composition. Luckily that wasn't the case here. This young beech tree, which shines towards me here, was a great help.

After getting settled in our evenings Trullo digs we headed out in the countryside surrounding Alberobello to capture some Trulli in their natural habitat, you can usually tell the ones looking for an owner that will restore it as they will not have the final whitewash coating of lime that you see on the occupied homes.
A trullo is usually a square base with a conical roof generally the main room is under the conical rooftop and anterooms are off the sloping roofline, for the more well to do you would see multiple rooftop cones and larger compound usually enclosed by a stone wall like the one pictured here.
A tradition in region for the more affluent was to decorate the cone tops with fancy ornamentation and also to paint the roof facing the public with religious or superstitious symbology usually having to do with warding off evil doing of one kind or another or maybe just to show off your skill and purse.

On my walks along the coastal path it is beautiful summer and winter. Winter with its cold blue signature color that blows a weak and cold wind from the fjord. My fingers are cold when I have taken my pictures, so I pull the hood over my head, put my hands in my gloves and go home happy.

In late February Karen and I headed out at 7:00 am to get some photos of the fog that had settled over the city during the night. The pathways are sidewalks were icy and slippery, making our trek slow and steady to avoid falls and injury.
This is a shot of two trees in the local park shrouded in fog.

We settled in our accommodation and drove to the Grand Canyon for the sunset. Thunder and lightening was all around, we were on the north rim while there was a thunder storm and rain over the south rim. For us there was no sun and the view was disappointing, but every once in a while a shaft of sunlight would break through and illuminate the canyon below.
We went to three locations to view the canyon, the last stop was to watch the sunset. When the sun dipped below a bank of clouds on the western horizon the cliffs in the canyon came alive with colour. Over all, it was a great afternoon of photography.

I wasn't particularly moved by the theme this week. When I first saw the theme, I had so many ideas brewing! But once it came to actually creating a composition with something half way interesting, it was a no go. I eventually settled on this shot.....although I am still not completely satisfied with it. I have the wishy washy decision making of a photographer - it's my curse. Haha!

Yashka settled with us almost 2 months ago and weighed 2 kg 200 g. Today he weighs 8 kg 800 g. He eats so fast that the bowl is empty 15 seconds after I put it in front of him. The husband says that I overfeed him, but if the puppy is constantly hungry, then how to limit the feeding? He eats three times a day - after all, he is only 4 months old!
Thank you all for visits, favs and comments, it's greatly appreciated!

Have a great weekend all and thank you for all the support and kindness!⛄
Connor has settled into his new paddock. He is calling to his mares, who are getting to go on a walk around the new property.
The house needs lots of work still. It will be hopefully be finished by spring.
Meanwhile, my time on flickr is limited. I don't have time to respond much lately. I do post a few things on my Facebook photos page.
We woke to the biggest snowfall since 2005 here in Hobart, Tasmania. Snow had settled in our yard and Mt Wellington was almost completely white. I braved the cold this morning to get some shots of the mountain from the back yard - got this seagull flying through the frame, looking for a warmer place.
Our boys also got ready for school, only to find that school was cancelled today with all the road closures and ice everywhere. I remember this happening to me in 1986 - that day was even thicker snow.
Falling Fog......
This morning there was a heavy misty, white fog that settled all over the quiet streets of Brampton. I headed out as soon as the sun came up.ready for an adventure! the nearby fields were thick with the white mist and the low lying areas were completely socked in. As i made my way through the neighbourhood I began taking pictures of what i saw. this shot of the train tracks on the parkway set the mood for most of what i shot today. i will post more later.

The village of Silva Bay is on Gabriola Island, one of the Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia, British Columbia, Canada. The village is named after John (João) Silva, a Portuguese who settled in the area. John arrived at Vancouver Island sometime around 1860 on a whaling ship, where he and a shipmate decided to jump ship and stay on Canada's West Coast.I took this while on a West Coast inter-island adventure.

Winter has settled over the forests, lakes and marshes of my home. This landscape is from a nearby marsh, in the cold hours of the afternoon. The marsh has been covered in both snow and ice.
Since it is already December, I am letting Christmassy things, such as music, creep quietly into my soul and heart.

The Celts settled in the middle of a swampy landscape in the Rhone Delta and traces of the Romans can still be found today, especially in the city of Arles.
After Rome, the most Roman remains can be found there. Of the eight monuments in Arles (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Roman amphitheater is undoubtedly the most important.
It was built in 90 AD and could accommodate up to 21,000 spectators.
Today, the Provençal bull games take place here.
In contrast to bullfights in Spain, the Course Camarguaise is bloodless. The bullfighter tries to tear a tassel wrapped around the animal's horns with the help of an iron claw.
The bulls come from the Camargue and are allowed to return to the pasture there after the game.
Heute finden hier provenzalische Stierspiele statt.
Settled on an upland plateau overlooking the Calf of Man, Cregneash village was one of the last strongholds of the Manx language and customs which characterised the crofting way of life. Step inside the Manx cottages to see how crofters lived through stories, skills and craft demonstrations. Take time to enjoy the changing seasons and natural history. You may see cats with no tails, four-horned sheep and traditional farming practices in action.
The blue heron settled briefly on one shore, then flew across to where it did the little dance, trying to earn a fish from the fisherman on the dock. Ended up having to do its own fishing.

I've done a series of light projections on skin in real life photography and figured it'd be a fun challenge to tackle in SL. While the process of setting up the projectors and getting SL pitch black wasn't too bad, choosing the right projection patterns proved to be more challenging than anticipated. Some patterns work to heighten the cartooniness of SL, some obfuscate too much, and some not nearly enough. After more tries than I care to admit I think I've finally settled on this for the first of what will (probably) be a series of experiments with light patterns in SL. Hope you like it!
Settled as early as the Neolithic period, the name Knossos survives from ancient Greek references to the major city of Crete. The palace of Knossos eventually became the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture. The palace was abandoned at some unknown time at the end of the Late Bronze Age, c. 1,380–1,100 BC.
Tierra de Campos ("Land of Fields") is a large historical and natural region or greater comarca that straddles the provinces of León, Zamora, Valladolid and Palencia, in Castile and León, Spain. It is a vast, desolate plain with practically no relief, except for some wide undulations of the terrain.
Originally it was known as "Gothic Plains" (Campi Gothici or Campi Gothorum), as the area had been settled by Visigoths who fled from Aquitaine Gaul after its conquest by the Franks. It was first mentioned under this name in Codex Vigilanus (Codex Albeldensis), and described as extending "from the river Douro, to the Christian Kingdom".
