46229 " Duchess of Hamilton" makes a spirited and noisy start from being held at a signal at Settle Junction on its first southbound S&C trip after o/haul in 1990. The paint work on the boiler was not yet completed such was the rush to get her back on the main line.

In the bowl that makes up a portion of the Cradle of Forestry here in Appalachia one may come across an intriguing sight. Mist gathered within the neat mountain surround, laying silently in the morning light. As the sun rises and begins to penetrate through the valleys into the cradle, you may find yourself transfixed by the peaceful moment bellow. Shining rays and deep shadows surrounding this cradle of fog, trees pushing up out of this lowland cloud, truly a moment to be appreciated, a moment in time to be cherished, and if you’re able, to pass it along to someone else.

Went back to North Yorkshire for the weekend. Settle is one of my favourite places. Such a beautiful small market town on the edge of the dales. Well worth a visit.

Had some free time this morning and i just had the urge to settle my personal arguments with HV Agnes. Her hair with lumps chop off to make that bun, the seemingly endless wing eye... and that red lipstick that she borrowed from elise... i cut her hair to a forgivable length in relation to the shortest at the back, boil perm, removed that lip, tamed those eye wings and reshape her brows... all of this with what might be Grace Kelly in mind. She turned out to be gorgeous and regal.

It's time to bring you down

Eight months since being moved to Galiano Island, our caboose has settled in nicely. One side has been painted, and the interior continues to be gutted, which has been a slightly harder task than I imagined. The caboose and another workhorse pose on a cloudy July afternoon.

From my neighbor's yard so colorful this time of year.

Yesterday we did a bit of bird watching and we saw cedar waxwings, eagle, osprey, kingfisher, herons, sandpipers, sparrows, cormorants, pigeons, starlings, Phoebe, eiders, and a catbird! Wishing my bird friends were here:)

Be well and see you next time!

I just have bad luck with these birds. A half decent shot of a first-year male Common Eider (Somateria mollissima).
