What is it that you want from me?
I really wish I knew.
I try so hard to do my best,
but it's not good enough for you
Can't you see what you do to me?
I try so hard to understand,
but the truth's never plain to see.
Over and over again
we will make the same mistakes
Is it time to go our separate ways?

Piranga lutea (Mountain cardinal / Piranga montana)
The Piranga montana or Mountain cardinal (Piranga lutea) is a species of passerine bird of the Cardinalidae family native to Central America and northwestern South America, from Costa Rica to Bolivia.
It was previously considered conspecific with the Hepatic piranga (P. hepatica) and the Vermilion piranga (P. flava), but they were separated into three separate species in 2001. The genus Piranga was traditionally classified in the family Thraupidae, but genetic analyzes indicated their transfer to the family Cardinalidae.
Six subspecies are recognized:
P.l. testacea - found in Costa Rica and Panama;
P.l. lutea - extends from southwestern Colombia to western Bolivia;
P.l. desidious - located in western Colombia;
P.l. toddi - present in central Colombia;
P.l. facet - typical of Trinidad, northern Colombia and northern Venezuela;
P.l. haemalea - found in southern Venezuela, the Guianas, and northern Brazil.
This is Twr Mawr Lighthouse, which is situated on Llanddwyn Island, a magical place which lies off the the coast of the Island of Angelsey in North Wales. Llanddwyn is only an island twice a day when the high tide separates it from it's larger neighbour
Twr Mawr was built in 1845 to guide ships to Bangor through the Menai Straits, which separates Anglesey from the mainland. The lighthouse has now been decommissioned and an older lighthouse nearby has been fitted with a modern lighting system.
The 'Arsenali' buildings were dry docks / shipbuilding / ship repair yards built along the eastern harbour between 1467 and 1599. There were 17 of them in a terrace and three more separate ones (the Docks of Moro, built in 1607) towards the eastern end of the harbour. The Arsenali were 50m long and 9m wide rectangular vaulted structures open at the sea side where a ship could be pulled out of the water and dragged into them in order to be worked on. Nine of them were demolished during the Turkish occupation when the docks were converted into military stores.
When they arrive in the harbour the fishermen have already sorted all the fish and placed them in separate trays supplied by the fish auction.
Vestrahorn mountain is located on the Stokknes Peninsula, close to the town of Höfn. Unlike most of the mountains in Iceland, it is made out of iron- and magnesium-rich gabbro rock, which leads to its dark and jagged appearance.
Standing separate from the mountains of the nearby Vatnajökull National Park, Vestrahorn is an impressive 454 metres (1,490 feet) tall. It faces out to the sea on its southern side and is surrounded by a sandy coastline that is often home to seals. Like most stretches of beach in Iceland, the sands here are black due to the island’s volcanism.

** More roof top’s this time though its a small village in Provence that sits in the Alpilles mountains
Les Baux-de-Provence is a settlement in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in Provence . The village is considered one of the most beautiful in France .It is located in the Alpilles mountains, atop a rocky outcrop that is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. Its name refers to its site: in Provençal, bauç is a rocky spur. From the village name the word bauxite was coined for aluminium ore when first discovered there by geologist Pierre Berthier in 1821.
Although it is not high the Alpilles range stands out impressively, as it rises abruptly from the Rhône valley and from the very flat alluvial plain of Crau. The range is about 25 km long by about 8 to 10 km wide, running in an east-west direction between the Rhône and Durance rivers. The landscape of the Alpilles is one of arid limestone peaks separated by dry valleys.

Local boats during blue hour, moored at the small marina located at the end of the Pitt River before it opens up into the wonderworld of Pitt Lake.
Communities of rustic to luxury cabins are nestled in clusters along the lake's shores.
A whole new world opens up to a pristine tidal lake that is only accessible by boat.
Pitt Lake according to Wikipedia:
Pitt Lake is the second-largest lake in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. About 53.5 square kilometres in area, it is about 25 km long and about 4.5 km wide at its widest. It is one of the world's relatively few tidal lakes, and among the largest. In Pitt Lake, there is on average a three foot tide range; thus Pitt Lake is separated from sea level and tidal waters during most hours of each day during the 15 foot tide cycle of the Pitt River and Strait of Georgia estuary immediately downstream.

False Creek is a short inlet in the heart of Vancouver. It separates downtown from the rest of the city. It was named by George Henry Richards during his Hydrographic survey of 1856-63. George Richards named False Creek during his survey of the coast in the mid-19th century. While traveling along the south side of the Burrard Inlet, he thought he was traversing a creek; upon discovering his error, he gave the waterway its modern name. Wikipedia
The Burrard Bridge (also referred to as the Burrard Street Bridge) is a five-lane, Art Deco style, steel truss bridge constructed in 1930-1932 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The high, five part bridge on four piers spans False Creek, connecting downtown Vancouver with Kitsilano via connections to Burrard Street on both ends. It is one of three bridges crossing False Creek.

This is an old ice house that sits off a separate island at the point of North Captiva. At one time, fishermen brought their fresh catch here for storage while they went back out for more. Now, it is a bunk house that is only accessible by boat, and it is often rented by college students and fishermen. The cistern still provides the fresh water, and it is one of the historic icons of the island...

This is another summer shot which I didn't upload because it's not perfect. Hence, I entitled it "Bokaos" which stands for bokeh and chaos ;-) I hope you like it!

Istanbul is a world class city and one of my favorite cities on the planet. A trip here is well worth it. Half of the city is in Europe and half in Asia separated by the beautiful blue Bosphorus Strait. It's easy to get around with the metro, public boats, and is extremely safe to walk around, even at night. I love this city!

The Australian magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) is a medium-sized black and white passerine bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea. Although once considered to be three separate species, it is now considered to be one, with nine recognised subspecies. A member of the Artamidae, the Australian magpie is placed in its own genus and is most closely related to the black butcherbird (Melloria quoyi). Currawongs have yellow eyes, whereas Magpies have red-brown eyes and Butcherbirds have very dark brown, almost black eyes. It is not, however, closely related to the European magpie, which is a corvid. The adult Australian magpie is a fairly robust bird ranging from 37 to 43 cm in length, with distinctive black and white plumage, gold brown eyes and a solid wedge-shaped bluish-white and black bill. The male and female are similar in appearance, and can be distinguished by differences in back markings. The male has pure white feathers on the back of the head and the female has white blending to grey feathers on the back of the head. With its long legs, the Australian magpie walks rather than waddles or hops and spends much time on the ground. Described as one of Australia's most accomplished songbirds, the Australian magpie has an array of complex vocalisations. It is omnivorous, with the bulk of its varied diet made up of invertebrates. It is generally sedentary and territorial throughout its range. Common and widespread, it has adapted well to human habitation and is a familiar bird of parks, gardens and farmland in Australia and New Guinea. This species is commonly fed by households around the country, but in spring (and occasionally in autumn) a small minority of breeding magpies (almost always males) become aggressive and swoop and attack those who approach their nests. 52844

Anilao is a quiet barangay on the northern coast of Mabini, a peninsula-municipality that separates Balayan Bay from Batangas Bay. Yep, it’s just a barangay. But Anilao’s popularity prompted resorts in neighboring villages to market themselves as also part of Anilao. These days, as far as tourism is concerned, Anilao is almost synonymous to the whole Mabini municipality.
Thanks to its proximity to Manila (only 3 hours away), it has become an ideal destination for divers, especially to beginners who may be a bit hesitant to travel to the far corners of the country for a first dip. The hidden wonders it keeps in its depths are no longer secret, but they continue to amaze curious souls.

I stand alone in darkness observing beautiful light place far away. The place is separated by spiky bushes, twisted branches and fallen rotten trees. I try to get through, but how far do I get? I'm all teared, beaten and bleeding, yet nowhere closer to the place of peace and beauty. Then I realize, that I'm a tree and the roots are holding me strongly on my place not letting me go. And the fallen rotten trees all around are those who cut their roots and tried to leave. They died. It is a destiny of a tree to stay on one place for all the long life. It would be so wonderful to get free and reach the place of my dream! But the only way how not to be a tree is to cut the roots...

Why spider webs glisten with dew
Two driving forces acting on wet spider silk help it to capture water.
Janet Fang
spiderweb
The spider's web captures a string of dewy pearls.Janet Fang
Researchers have puzzled out how spider silk is able to catch the morning dew. Their findings may lead to the development of new materials that are able to capture water from the air.
The study, published today in Nature1, examines the silk of the hackled orbweaver spider Uloborus walckenaerius. "Bright, pearl-like water drops hang on thin spider silk in the morning after fogging," says study author Lei Jiang from the Beijing National Laboratory for Molecular Sciences. "It is unexpected and interesting. Human hair can't do that."
Dry spider silk forms a necklace-like structure. Two main fibres support a series of separate rounded 'puffs', each made up of tiny, randomly intertwined nanofibrils. When water vapour condenses onto these puffs, they shrink into densely packed knots, shaped like spindles (or two cones with their bases stuck together). Thinner connecting stretches of nanofibrils, separating the knots, become more apparent; these areas are called 'joints'.
The researchers studied the webs under both electron and light microscopes. They noticed that as water condenses on the web, droplets move towards the nearest spindle-knot, where they coalesce to form larger drops.
The spindle-knots have a rough surface, because the fibrils within them are randomly interweaved. But the joints between the knots have a smooth texture, because their constituent fibrils run parallel to each other. It is this difference in roughness that helps water drops to slide towards the spindle-knots, sticking when they arrive.
The cone shape of the spindle-knots also drives droplets towards their centre. Once they hit the edge of a cone, drops are propelled towards its base, the least curved region, because of the pressure difference caused by surface tension.
Mimicking nature
Guided by their findings, the team made their own artificial spider silk using nylon fibres dipped in a polymer solution that, when dried, formed spindle-knots similar to those in natural spider silk. They anticipate that their studies of these fibres could lead to new materials for collecting water from the air.
"It is impressive that they were able to produce an analogue of wetted [spider] thread that duplicated the properties that they observed," says spider silk expert Brent Opell of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
But it doesn't seem likely that natural selection has directed the evolution of this particular spider's silk for water collection, he adds. The spider's thread seems to have evolved to work best when it is dr

These are the beautiful Lammermuir Hills which separate East Lothian from the Scottish Borders. The hills are a traditional place for sheep farming. We were heading south-east to the small town of Duns and had decided to take this narrow country lane that runs through the hills and towards the village of Longformacus. The Southern Upland Way, a Long Distance Route which crosses southern Scotland, passes through the village whose name is derived from the Gaelic Longphort Mhacais, meaning 'Macas's camp'. Duns, where we planned to take lunch, is just a few miles further on.

The Mariinsky Palace is located on St. Isaac's Square, named after the daughter of Emperor Nicholas I, Maria, to whom it was intended as a wedding gift on the occasion of her marriage to Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg. It was built in 1839-1844 according to the project of Andrei Shtakenshneider and is considered the best work of the architect.
In the 1880s, the palace was sold to the treasury and began to serve as the residence of the State Council, in the 1890s it was renovated and partially rebuilt under the direction of architect Ludwig Peterson. In 1906, under the leadership of Leontius Benois, a separate building was added for a Large Meeting Room. Since the end of the XIX century, along with the Winter and Tauride Palaces, the Mariinsky has been one of the three "political" palaces of St. Petersburg. During the revolutionary events of 1917, he was transferred several times from the Bolsheviks to the Provisional Committee, after the October Revolution he was given to the Supreme Council of the National Economy. Since 1945, the Lensovet has been sitting in the palace.During the August 1991 coup, the Mariinsky became the center of the GKCHP resistance in Leningrad. In 1994, after the dissolution of the Leningrad City Council, the palace was occupied by the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg.In front of the palace, the Monument to Nicholas I is located between the Mariinsky Palace and St. Isaac's Cathedral...
