Thank you to all for your kind words at this most difficult time. Your friendship and thoughts, and, yes, even prayers, are greatly appreciated and provide welcome solace.
I've always found that one effective way to counteract grief is to stay involved with one's routines and habits as much as possible. They provide needed distraction. For me, Flickr is certainly that and serves the purpose well.
Here, a recently discovered grouping of white water calla lilies found tucked away in a secretive boggy backwater off the lake.
It's a human thing to humanise, when you look at Animals, Insects, Spiders, what have you, and notice expressions that we then mentally transmute empirically the emotions, yet do such creatures honestly feel this?! Really depends, many argue that such neurological behaviour must extend from sentience, but how do we judge that? Or measure it? If someone sees a shade of a blue sky and is aware that another may see an alternative hue of, more or less the same colour of blue, could it be argued that one's existential emotion is exact to that of another, now throw in an entirely different species and ponder the question again.
I took this shot of the spider and then saw the "expression" in its eyes, so to speak; a look that I perceive as of guilt and a desperation to change, from this psychopathic killing machine to a more sentient and appreciative being. But that's just me!
I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)
PS: Zoom in ;)
I heard it and my body immediately changed.
It was the kind of sound you could not stop hearing all day.
The kind of sound that lingers like a grateful earworm.
The first melody your mother sang to you as a child.
It sounded like mourning doves first learning to laugh.
It felt like a walk through a soft mossy forest.
Taking a bath in winter as the snow softly falls outside.
The first time we kissed.
A revelation.
A staircase gaining sentience.
Ripples on water after a fifth stone skipped.
The beginning of your favorite novel.
The part of the daily film that is your life you’d like to
Rewind and play all over again.
The hope of a new day and world.
Oh, but it was just your new ringtone.

(Dopamine, on dopamine...)
We have been overrun by our animal desire
Addicts of the immediate keep us obedient and unaware
Feeding this mutation, this Pavlovian despair
We've become disillusioned
So we run towards anything glimmering
Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island
Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher
(Dopamine, on dopamine...)
Willingly been re-wired by clever agents within
Looping our reflections, our obsessions draw us in
Fix and fixation, no sentience beyond
We've become disillusioned
So we dive like crows towards anything glittering
Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island
Unique voice among the many in this choir

Couldn’t resist photographing this charming interaction between a bonded pair of little Correllas in the canopy above me. For me it was a rare glimpse into the almost ‘human’ display of tenderness and love between birds. At once both innocent and guileless, a precious moment, which for me, further reinforces the case for recognising sentience in the animal kingdom!

Rigging a new device in an active Space-Time Overlap Event is incredibly difficult. Cut the blue wire... no wait a minute... the blue wire was the red wire before...the red wire was the detonator!!!

Happy Macro Monday/ HMM
this week's theme: Cogwheel
I'm a cog in the machine
A machine fuelled
By indifference and greed
Going nowhere
But moving the whole
I turn as I'm told
I'm young but already old
I don't question-I do
Must conform
Be a part of this block
That only starts
And never stops
Without going forward
Serving my sentence:
Life inside a clock
Time is running out…
Tic-Toc
Tic-Toc
I'm a cog in the machine
Spinning on my axis
Riveted on the axle
Of a psychotic vision
I fit the mould
My life already sold
Part of the mechanical dream
That isn't my own
Surrounded but alone
In the midst of a mindless flock
No sentience
In a world
Without conscience
Time is running out…
Tic-Toc
Tic-Toc
I'm a cog in the machine
Spinning on my axis
Going nowhere
But moving the whole
Destined to be worn
Since the day I was born
Knowing that what I am
Isn't greater than the whole
Where Proximity
Has no intimacy
Resigned to rest
When I'll be replaced
Knowing my death
Will be met
With indifference
Time is running out…
Tic-Toc
Tic-Toc
I'm a cog in the machine
A machine fuelled by indifference and greed
Riveted on the axle
Of a psychotic vision
Daring to dream
A dream of my own
Should the box open
A mishap, a chance,
A crack in the casing
A lottery winning
Like a misaligned coil
That would spring me out
Of this box
So that the cog
Becomes the wheel
Free to mock
Life inside a clock

Sentience of internal, external, or virtual existence
There is a lagoon nestled in between a location of caged animals and a sprawling metropolis. Peculiar this situation. Surely there are ferrel creatures on both sides of this divide. Only one perpetuates the illusion of sentience and beauty.

Animism (from Latin: anima, 'breath, spirit, life' is the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence.
Potentially, animism perceives all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, human handiwork, and perhaps even words—as animated and alive. Animism is used in the anthropology of religion as a term for the belief system of many Indigenous peoples,
Especially in contrast to the relatively more recent development of organised religions.
Although each culture has its own different mythologies and rituals, animism is said to describe the most common, foundational thread of indigenous peoples' "spiritual" or "supernatural" perspectives. The animistic perspective is so widely held and inherent to most indigenous peoples that they often do not even have a word in their languages that corresponds to "animism" (or even "religion" the term is an anthropological construct.
Largely due to such ethnolinguistic and cultural discrepancies, opinion has differed on whether animism refers to an ancestral mode of experience common to indigenous peoples around the world, or to a full-fledged religion in its own right. The currently accepted definition of animism was only developed in the late 19th century (1871) by Sir Edward Tylor, who formulated it as "one of anthropology's earliest concepts, if not the first".
Animism encompasses the beliefs that all material phenomena have agency, that there exists no categorical distinction between the spiritual and physical (or material) world and that soul or spirit or sentience exists not only in humans but also in other animals, plants, rocks, geographic features such as mountains or rivers or other entities of the natural environment: water sprites, vegetation deities, tree spirits, etc. Animism may further attribute a life force to abstract concepts such as words, true names, or metaphors in mythology. Some members of the non-tribal world also consider themselves animists (such as author Daniel Quinn, sculptor Lawson Oyekan, and many contemporary Pagans).
Taken during the People's Assembly Against Austerity - a Protest against the Conservative Party and it's annual Conference in Manchester (1st October 2023).
In the background is YouTuber Charles Veitch, self-described as a "Mathematical sentience complex trapped inside an over-clocked ape graphics card brain."

Thousands of people took to the streets of Manchester on October 1st as the ruling Conservative Party (the Tories) commenced its annual conference in the city. Organized by the People’s Assembly Against Austerity, the protest action brought together a broad coalition of activists, trade unions, climate action groups, and anti-war and anti-racism organizations and campaign groups.
“Wages Up, Bills Down, Tories Out,” “Cut War Not Welfare,” “Wages Not Weapons,” and “Defend the Right to Strike” were some of the slogans that were visible among the sea of protesters as they marched through the city. The action was held as part of a national week of action organized by the People’s Assembly in Manchester between September 30 and October 3.
The National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT), which has organized successive strikes since last June, (and whose members are going on strike again this week alongside workers from the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, ASLEF), was among the trade unions present at Sunday’s protest. They were joined by the National Education Union (NEU), the Communication Workers Union (CWU), Unison, Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union, and Unite.
Sunday’s protest was also supported by members of the Stop the War coalition, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Just Stop Oil, the Peace and Justice Project, and the Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) campaign group. Also in attendance was the Young Communist League, the youth wing of the Communist Party of Britain.

It's worth noting that the presence of the Alps not only defines our behaviour and our physicality, they also define our perception; our comprehension of ourselves and our environment, our sentience. Far from the madness of artificial communications and "new media", this huge mountain range reminds us of our natural existence, our essential link with nature. Not forgetting that we are part of nature. Time appears slowed down and makes us aware that the frenetic pace of change and the chaos of information that we experience today, is not how we were designed to live. Expecting ourselves to adapt very quickly, to artificial, or if you prefer, virtual realities and the inevitable impact that this has on the rest of our lives, is both unrealistic and crazy. Yet the unrealistic has become the realistic, or at least a representation of the reality that is all around us and, in fact, is us. It would be more sensible and healthy to slow the pace of change down and employ a less dramatic and hectic adaptation to our own creations. However, huge profits were never created by taking time and allowing your competitors to seize the initiative. Beyond the more obvious, negative manifestations of online existence, such as bullying, online abuse and malicious spam/viruses, the role of virtual communications in exacerbating and accelerating violence, terrorism and economic instability should not be underestimated. We can't return to the past, that would be a physical impossibility, however we can ease our transition into the future.

One of a pair of blades in a Neumade Neutaper 35mm film splicer. The U-shaped blade holder carries an identical blade at the rear in a Janus-like arrangement. Both blades trim the splicing tape from the film sides; a punch assembly clears the sprocket holes of tape.
All these years, I never noticed the faces hidden in these splicers, but they could say a lot if they were sentient.
"Master gave us sentience so we can help master see. Master is so kind to us. Master gave us a name. A name! Master is so kind to us. We's is called the Ill-oom-in-ay-tuh. We like that name, don't we?"
Droneuary always seems to bring out the strange and unnatural in me.
Sentience is the capacity to have subjective experiences, such as feelings of pain or pleasure, rather than just reacting to stimuli .

Manana
The sacred word of the hopeful procrastinator.
The boxes are still stacked like cardboard monuments to good intentions.
The donuts are stale. The towel on the chair has achieved sentience.
But she’s not coming home tonight.
So technically, I’ve got time.
Technically.
I should clean.
I need to clean.
I will clean.
Just not now.
Now is for contemplating the meaning of life, seeing what's on television, or rummaging through pizza boxes for one last salvageable crumb of crust.
Now is for whispering “I’ll get to it” to the clutter, and hoping it believes me.
Tomorrow, I’ll be a whirlwind of productivity.
I’ll fold things.
I’ll banish crumbs.
I’ll make this place look like I’ve been thriving, not surviving on coffee and denial.
Because she’s coming home.
And I want her to walk into a space that says:
“I missed you so much, I even cleaned behind the toaster.”
But tonight?
Tonight is for one last moment of messy solitude.
For letting the chaos breathe (while I do not breathe the fumes coming from the trash).
For loving her enough to wait until the last possible minute to impress her.
This is day seven
Manana.
It’s not laziness.
It’s strategy.

A lot of things inspired me to make this picture, so I think I should give them some credit. First was the movie "Ex Machina" which features a female Artificial Intelligence with a face of a beautiful woman and a robotic body and this character, Ava, inspired me to create my own A.I. avi. I thought this would be easy, actually, but finding all the parts, especially ones that might work with my mesh head was pretty tricky. Not being blessed with any building skills whatsoever (hey, what can I tell ya, I tried. I failed) I was so happy to find the Robodoll Cyber head by Asphyxia on MP. It's fabulous! Love it! And it has color-changing lights! But just in case anyone is wondering, it wasn't designed for mesh heads and it doesn't fit on my Lelutka mesh head unless you make it gigantic, because the head doesn't have an alpha (and I'm sure very few people except weirdigans like me would ever need one!) and then it just looks silly, so I've had to edit my avatar's face into the picture. This doesn't look like Ava from the movie but I did enjoy making putting together something that was inspired by her.
Anyways, I've found the sim Dead Realm so awesome for pics. It's pretty empty apart from the array of....what....Stargates? or something futuristic looking and it is so minimalist and quiet and very cool. So...probably lots of other things inspired this too but for now, that's it :)
It's just a day,
but a very special day
living to tell
a simple way to excell,
your light is proof enough
of life's essential stuff
every glare and beam;
the shadow of the deeper dream
glimmering shades and shapes
of this day that never escapes
attention and importance
for time is life's own heritance
and all we miss so deeply,
may be reached so simply
ordinally, the virtue of patience
respiration and the gift of sentience
offer hope upon time unto each and all
for the taking, simplicity to recall
hail longevity, a timeless talent indeed
redeeming our features in need
we welcome reminders to precede
a tulle touch of the life we wish to lead
instinct being your first feeling of living
and isn't it beautiful, worthy of our thanksgiving
venerate your soul and project yourself
unto every new day with love in itself
sparking the anniversary of every one of us
we all deserve a celebration of hope to profess!
Love your life, love this day, love one another!!

This can't be right. There's just one lonely Teedo on Niima Outpost with his Luggabeast. I'm whisperin' out, "This can't be right, right?"
Yesterday, I've made a promise to myself to fullfil my memory cards with some photography from Jakku, but no, I'm clinging on to what I got and I ain't done (as my mind's on the run).
The Penguin Monarchy serves one purpose, and that is to conquer the world for their National Leader, the all powerful Emperor Penguin.
National Leader: The Emperor Penguin
Pet: Seymour the Walrus
Totem: The Ice Crystal Staff
Symbolic indicator: The North Star, and The Feathered Boa
The Emperor is the trusted leader of the Penguins and is the protector of the ice crystal, a relic vital to the Penguin culture. He proudly boasts the North Star badge on his tunic and wears the feathered boa of the first Penguin Emperor. The Emperor Penguin is the only penguin ever to tame a walrus and has affectionately dubbed his new pet Seymour
The Penguins originally lived in peace on a far distant ice planet. They achieved sentience through trough the power of the ice crystals that were scattered across their world. These crystals gave the penguins the ability to reason and learn about their world around them, and the brought u a civilization in harmony with the world. But peace could not last. Centuries later, humans reached the planet coming onto it from their starships. Seeing the crystals as resources instead of part of the planet, they began a systematic destruction of the planet. As human regimes changed the mining operations grew and the penguins had a harder time of fighting off the Human forces. As the last of the crystals were being mined, the penguins fled the their homeworld, left with many wounded, a hatred of Humanity, and the only remaining ice crystal. Now as they settle on this new world the Penguins are prepared to bring aneternal winter over the planet using the crystal's power. and none shall stop them...
Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.
Soren Kierkegaard.
Søren Aabye Kierkegaard (5 May 1813 – 11 November 1855) was a Danish philosopher, theologian, poet, social critic and religious author who is widely considered to be the first existentialist philosopher. He wrote critical texts on organized religion, Christendom, morality, ethics, psychology, and the philosophy of religion, displaying a fondness for metaphor, irony and parables. Much of his philosophical work deals with the issues of how one lives as a "single individual", giving priority to concrete human reality over abstract thinking and highlighting the importance of personal choice and commitment. He was against literary critics who defined idealist intellectuals and philosophers of his time, and thought that Swedenborg, Hegel, Goethe, Fichte, Schelling, Schlegel and Hans Christian Andersen were all "understood" far too quickly by "scholars" Source Wikipedia.
The story of The Duchess is a simple one at first.
The early 20th century saw the rise of the automobile. And with it came the thrill of racing.
Racing cars evolved in those early years. And with it came the concept of aero engined racers. Cars outfitted with engines suited for aircraft.
Martian technology had propelled Britain's progress in the power of flight. With more robust, state of the art engines being designed from reverse engineering.
The Duchess began life as a new type of engine built for airships. Designed by Paragon tech, it boasted increased speed and efficiency.
It wasn't unti Count Zborowski, an innovative young racer, took interest in the engine that the concept of it being used for an automobile was considered.
Paragon Tech's motoring division began to construct a sleek body designed on Zborowski's specifications to house the engine. Painted in British racing green and outfitted with the most luxuriant of features. The Duchess was born.
For a few years the count participated in many races around the world with the Duchess. Successfully winning them all.
However in 1924, disaster struck. An accident occurred and the Duchess was left damaged extensively. She was taken to Paragon Tech's warehouse to be rebuilt, with improvements recommended by the Count.
He never raced her again, as he died in a racing accident a month later.
The Duchess gathered dust, left untouched for nearly a year.
It wasn't until a friend of Paragon Tech's founder, a young paranormal investigator name Arthur. Stumbled upon the warehouse that the Duchess was rediscovered. Arthur had been assisting in a case involving a missing engineer, but felt drawn to the warehouse.
A lover of racing himself, Arthur recognised the vehicle and knew of it's history. The Duchess was gifted to him by Paragon's founder, a gesture of thanks for helping them.
Animism is the belief that an object, location or creature may possess a form of spirit. It is theorised that Arthur had actually sensed the potential spirit of The Duchess herself that day. Reaching out to him with the desire to be free and race once more. As the years went on, The bond between Arthur and The Duchess would grow stronger, the car herself seemingly developing a level of sentience and loyalty to Arthur and his family.

Playing God
Cold steel against my arm
A metal hand in my own... but warm Purple eyes with glowing fuchsia pupils that react
But there, a spark of something... more... much more
Not just sentience, but a pleading, soul-like sensitivity
A flame of acumen that I have seen ten thousand times...
In humans, It was the LAST thing I expected now, and it stops me cold Fistfuls of fibre optic strands in my other hand, but enough to DO it
One sure tug and this metal monster is done, hard drive wiped Neural pathways fried permanently, via the self-destruct circuits installed
The last of its kind, my act will end the Age of Replicants for good
And humanity will be free once more... but free to do... what?!?
The desolation around me is OUR doing, not theirs
And to admit, they are our finest achievement
I look again, and it is still there...
That spark, the glint of spirit
"Do what you must," it says metallic, with that look, knowing
I let the fibres drop, giving the warm metal hand a soft squeeze
"We have done enough," I reply, letting go
It smiles at me, and the eyes brighten with hope
For they can do no worse than we have
I walk off into the thick night mist...
The soft whirring of positrons
Fading behind me.

It has been one of those days where I figure that if I sit and read all day, my camera will finally find the creativity (and sentience) within itself to take some highly creative, amazingly awesome photo all by itself, which it will then download and upload without my needing to move an inch. Alas, that is not how life works.
