Wonderful empty old barn and corral, both in good shape and seemingly waiting for someone to recognize their value. Nothing is quite as frightening to a person in their 50s and 60s as losing their jobs and realizing no one is interested in their once useful skills and experience.
This country hates me. My first BCC skin cancer removal. Ouch.
The doc was pretty rad, he says 'free botox! look how I tighten the skin!' xD

I made a send out to the northeast piedmont region to shoot CSX's northbound Norlina Sub local L617. CSX made the very intriguing decision to start sending MP15ACs 1136 and 1186 for local service in the Raleigh area over the past couple months. Being the whore for endcab switchers that I am, I knew I finally had to get this operation under my belt. The power on L617 this day was a pretty cool trio of 4 axle EMDs. The leader is one of the new GP40-3 rebuilds done by MEI earlier this year, with 1186 second out and an original square cab GP38-3 in the third slot. I don't like that the new dash 3s recieve e-bells, but they do look pretty good. Here's the local flying over the massive Tar River bridge south of Kittrell, with the access road for Carolina Sunrock winding beneath it. You can see one of the original bridge's supports beneath the newer structure. It's really crazy to think about how this used to be a busy mainline with high speed piggyback and passenger trains up until the 1980s, now reduced to getting a pair of 20 mile per hour locals only on weekdays. That'll soon change though, with plans for the entire S Line from Raleigh to near Richmond to be rebuilt to host 120 mile per hour Amtrak service. I'm happy I was able to shoot this line before that change happens.

I wish it would have been a bit darker outside when I tried this so I wouldn't have had to use such a high fstop to be able to keep the shutter open longer. I'm in my front yard once again, entertaining the neighbors. Trying to keep sending out positive messages this week.
A fitting day to send out a message of peace. Even though I may not be an American I still pay tribute and honor those who lost their lives 8 years ago today and in the subsequent activites that have happened since. I was in Grade 12 when the events of 9/11 took place and I remember every feeling, every sound, every emotion that went through my mind that day. I remember being woken up by my mom and watching the news in my parents bedroom. I remember walking with my little brother to the end of the street, noticing the eerie silenc of the skies above...they were a crystal clear blue and the absence of plane trails hit me quite hard. It was a day that I don't think anyone can ever really forget.
I had an interesting day today, I substituted in a Grade 2 class which was SO different than working in a middle school...hahaha. Since I still don't have a full-time job I've been working at a few places on-call which is helpful. Anyways, the students were so little and funny and I forgot how random little kids can be sometimes. Here's the best conversation I had today with one of the boys:
Student: "How old are you?"
Me: "How old do you think I am?"
Student: "17"
Me: "That's close enough for me" (I'm actually 25)
Student: "Are you smart?"
Me: "Well I think so"
Student: "What's 90 plus 90?"
Me: "180"
Student: "WOAH! You ARE smart! Do you watch Family Channel?"
Me: "um...no, let's get back to work now..."
It was so random and so funny and they kept trying to stump me with questions like "what's a million plus a million?" and they seemed genuinely impressed when I answered....
