I thought this trio of Plovers looked a tad grumpy but also very adorable nestled in the sand. It almost looks as if they've built a little sand wall around themselves. In the background is seagull bokeh.

I'm signing off until October as I head to England in less than a week. I am really looking forward to meeting more of my flickr friends along the way. Have a happy rest of the month!! :)

Pluvier semipalmé ( Diane )

There were several Semipalmated Plovers among the flocks of shorebirds throughout the muddy East "beach" area of Fort DeSoto, Florida. It was a blazing late morning sun and I had a hard time holding my camera steady (took a bad fall the day before). This Semipalmated Plover seemed to want to watch me as much as I wanted to watch it :-)

Leucistic Semipalmated Plover

We went to the Stone Harbor Wetlands Institute to see what we could find. Walking out a little bit we noticed this little white bird. Took a few shots of this rare beauty.

Migrating Plover, This one was hiding among the rocks and wood at the shoreline as a Merlin had just made his presence known.

The third species we saw at Wheatley was the Semipalmated Plover - - they remind me alot of the Killdeer

Was so excited to see this little guy as he is a rare migrant through Colorado at least on the Western Slope, not sure about the eastern side.

This little semipalmated plover decided to show off some ballet moves as I lay on the muddy shoreline of the Thames River in Chatham, Ontario.

I was up on the road at first light. It was going to be a beautiful day but being on the coast we have a lot of localized fog. By the time I got to destination, I could not see two inches in front of me. I doubted there was going to be much subjects on the shore. I was so happy to discover that one guy, but he looked so vulnerable and lonely. The fog was moving in wave with the breeze and wind, and gave me from time to time enough of a break for some images like this one I was happy with.

Nesting. It blended in so well into the shore that I didn't see it until it stood up from the nest when I was close. I backed up, photographed it standing. It sat down on its nest, again when it was satisfied that I posed no threat.

I find that despite its small size, the Semipalmated Plover

is one of the most "people tolerant" of the shorebirds. Instead of running crazy like the other small shorebirds they tend to bunk against a trunk or something else laying on the beach trying to blend in or else they just stop moving for a while and examine whether there is a need to do more. I was happy to get this one with a totally unobstructed background. I find them extremely courageous for their small size... but I wonder if Johnny Cash would agree :)

Avec un peu de patience, ces petits curieux viennent vers nous !

Une après-midi qu'il n'avait pratiquement que ces Pluviers de présent. Heureusement, ils sont très photogéniques!

Small, orange-legged plover with solid dark breast band. Medium-brown upperparts are the color of wet sand, noticeably darker than Piping or Snowy Plovers. Look for short, blunt bill with orange base (often indistinct on juveniles). Feeds on mudflats and beaches, often mixed with other shorebirds. Even when in a flock, individuals are typically spread out rather than remaining a tight unit. Breeds on the tundra or rocky beaches at northern latitudes; winters to southern South America. Migrants are common and widespread, inland and coastal. Listen for distinctive two parted “chu-weep!” calls, and assorted chortles and chuckles. (eBird)

We almost this little plover because he blended in so well with the sand and debris on the beach. But then he moved ...

A pair of these cute lttle plovers were running around in the mud and enjoying the sunshine. The morning was very calm.

These guys have been all over this year in my shorebird search. So I have gotten many pics of them. They also seemed like they were posing for me many times. This is also the best pic I have gotten were you can see their semi webbed feet for where they get their name from.

I hope everyone enjoys this image! :D
