I am haunted by Samantha Kelly's last words, scribbled on the wall in her bedroom where she hung herself. How can a 14 year old girl eat dinner with her family, excuse herself to go "do homework" and then quietly take her own life? I need this to make sense. I need to understand. I need answers and there aren't any. Would I feel any better if there were?
Why do I care? Why do I feel so strongly for some teenage kid I never knew? I didn't know her family. I don't even have any kids of my own. There are countless tragedies everyday from which to pick and choose. Why do these teen suicides hit me so hard?
I feel a strong need to do something. Everyone has a cause or an issue that motivates them. I want teenage suicide to be mine. I don't want another kid to suffer the way Samantha and Phoebe and Tyler and Asher and countless others did. I want to help, but I don't know where to begin.
I have a lot of young contacts here on flickr. You are all some of the most amazing, kind, caring, beautiful, and inspiring people I have ever met. I am asking you, my young friends, for help. You are on the front lines of this issue everyday. Is the issue being discussed in your schools? Is there a well publicized process for obtaining help? Like, if you are suffering depression and have suicidal thoughts, is there a person or place you can go for help without fear of judgement? How best to stop the bullying? How to get those suffering torment to see the value in their lives? When all else fails, how do we provide last ditch help and get the despondent to accept it? I want to hear your thoughts, ideas, suggestions. Together we can prevent another tragedy.
I promise I'll get back to my normal good natured self soon. I've got lots of film just waiting to be scanned and uploaded.
#306 of the 365 day challenge. i have an awful look on my face! stiff and worried...but i had fun cloning...and it's my first attempt. i need to learn patience and shoot more slowly! those paintings i did also. if you want to clone yourself take several pics of yourself with your cam on a tripod totally still then put them into photoshoppe or gimp software and then use the lasso tool and copy and paste all of you into one shot and line them up and viola!

My sister-in-law asked that I take pictures of her cat. I have taken many pictures of her tabby (Ollie) as he is friendly and curious, but Hopper (pictured here) is fairly shy and gets nervous when something is pointed in his direction. So getting shots of him, can be a challenge! However, of the two cats, Hopper is more affectionate, smart, athletic, yet moody and temperamental!

We found out last night that our offer on the house we checked out earlier this week was accepted. Inspection is starting today and if all goes well, we'll be able to move in at some point in mid to late January.

I can't really claim this as my own. I saw something almost exactly like this on flickr a few nights ago. I've searched high and low, but I can't find it again. If you know the image, please either link it or message me and I'll link it to this one.
This is one thing I really love about flickr right now - there's a mind boggling amount of exposure to other photographers/ideas/styles. I can (and do) spend literally hours falling down the rabbit hole. I'll sit in awe sometimes and wonder how he/she did something so cool, and occasionally (today) I'll get off my butt and try to teach myself how to do it. And from here I can take what I learned in more original directions.
In other news, I still find self-portraiture really awkward and embarrassing - at least for me it is.
*Side note: I don't actually wear glasses. I tried the picture with and without, and it works better with them. Make fun of me accordingly

A while ago I've posted my first self-shot puddle self portraits, a new style I've developed this year that, as far as I can tell, has not been challenged or copied by anybody else, making me by default the wickedest Reflectah out there, of course only until one day some whiz kid will come and outwicked me, making my reflection shots look boring and old, while his/her style will be refreshing to look at, easy on the eyes and will sell like hot buns at the bakery, leaving me behind in the dust, sitting by some dried up puddle, the only reflective surfaces around my wide, teary eyes that look on in shock&horror as that little spoiled brat takes over the World Domination Plan that I've so carefully prepared, and becomes the new ruler of all the puddles on this planet...unless I drown him/her in them first, hahahaha :D
Yes, that's why they call me the 'wicked Reflectah' and not the 'boring, plays by the rules Reflectah' ;-P

#75 of 365day challenge right before i rode my bicycle in the first annaul hemp ride seattle. we did 27 miles today but only 4 of us rode! it was great fun though...

I'm a total Nature-freak, I have so many plants in my house and on my balcony, that it looks and feels like a jungle, my preferred natural habitat...well, not really, I don't like wild animals or man-eating insects, so let's say urban jungle. To my utter delight, lately I had to realize that I spend so much time surrounded by plants that some kind of osmosis process has started, converting my body into a new half-human-half-plant lifeform, not an unpleasant experience, as I get to hang around chillaxing most of the time, and looking at my leafy hands, nobody is expecting me to get any actual work done anymore anyways, so I'm mostly being left alone in a corner, working on the final stages of my plantness, and as you can see, rather successfully, I am almost there...please water me every now and then, thank you :D
