On the blog today, Meri talks about her greatest critic, how it feels to be constantly bitched at and undermined and how she is going to get rid of this person. readmeri.wordpress.com/2020/01/22/being-bullied/
in an antique store for all eternity, but they can't take away my sense of self. That is my freedom.
Third in an ongoing series of collaborations with Zone Patcher ( Virtual Friend ).
www.flickr.com/photos/148557622@N07/
Zone, like all of us, has gone through many different phases in his extraordinary work. For about the past year he's been focusing on portraits of people in his life and subjecting those photographs to his unique fractal distortions. So when we discussed collaboration in earnest, he suggested that I send some selfies along to him to work with. He sent me back several versions.
Zone works in "single frames". One, unbroken image across the picture plane. My work since 2017 has been with multiple frames or "Veils & Screens", w/ several images collaged over top of each other. So my part is to take Zone's fractal variations and build multi-layered digital collages and add various photo manipulations in order to reach a unified mix of our unique ways of working.
The previous collaboration "Irridescent Ignition ..." was predominantly Zone's work with me acting as "arranger", putting his work into a multi-framed, multi-levelled "collage". This piece flips that relationship over where my composition and photo-manipulation is the more prominent aspect of the piece. It's a Yin/Yang, evolutionary, organic, unpredictable process which makes it exciting. "Ya just never know what yer gonna get"
One of my little techniques of late is to include the non-manipulated, original SOOC shots in a lot of my images. I want to let the fact be seen that I layer separate images over others. I start with straight photographs and do various things to alter them and then add them in for perspective. By NOT trying to create a more Surrealist blending of elements, my process is visible and no illusion is attempted. The nature of how I work is plainly visible.
No Pano-Sabotage was used in the making of this image.

Fifty plus years come and gone
Two thirds of life a memory holds
How quickly time eludes the grasp
How soon the journeys in the past
Yet with time a wisdom grows
Insightful to the last
A will that struggles to stay the course
Holding on to innocence
Pushing back against a hardened heart
Preferring happiness to sorrow
The past banished to the past
Finding the future in tomorrow’s dawn
Always Living in the now
Never harming along the way
No boundary holds the heart
Embracing love at every turn
Moving on beyond despair
Letting go of entangled ways
Hoping in some my memory stays
So much more to learn
But oh so fewer are the days

My wife has just received an illuminated makeup mirror with 5x magnification. Of course I immediately stole it from her to fire up my creative juices.
A metaphor:
You have a choice... you can be a victim if you chose to be a victim, or anything else you want to be. But just remember that it is your choice.
(A.I. image rendered in Microsoft Designer)
Actually in general I'm getting a lot better about this sort of thing but today just happened to be one of those days.
I might delete this later.

it's not often that one sees a full length shot of me in my photo stream... mainly because I rarely use my big heavy tripod to take self portraits. (I have to get a small one sometime). I had a friend take this of me at the end of July of this year.
Part of me wanted to take this picture to prove to myself that I'm not as fat as I think I am. In the bathroom mirror with no clothes I'm not very happy with what I see. I think I carry that image with me and assume everyone else sees it too. Then I look at a picture like this and feel all 'normal' and am forced to rethink my issues.

Sometimes conforming to how "beauty" is seen now stinks. No, I'm not unhappy with the way I look.....just sayin'. ( I just realized, I have the mask on freakin' UPSIDE DOWN!!!! What a dork! This is probably gonna be re-done...... :O) )

Taken a few nights ago, I turned the camera on myself as a theraputic tool to guide me through some really rough moments of mania. Well, this is the result. it's not a very pretty picture of me, but then again, it does the job, says what it supposed to say...
More to come...
A double exposure made in camera. Both pictures separated by a three year interval to show the passing of time.
So this picture was taken in the hotel lounge in Cancun. I think everyone thought I was strange for having a tripod set up and taking pictures of myself...LOL
I had this picture in mind, so I quickly took the opportunity when the waiter was standing there waiting for the bartender to make his drinks. He was looking at me with this confused look on his face because I was looking straight at him with my back to the camera. I think he was wondering why I wasn't facing the camera...LOL
I've been tagged a couple of times now, so I guess I should do this. Don't want any bad juju.

Wanted to remake the image I loaded a few days ago of the rippled mirror but this time with almost no photoshop. Only adjusted the contrast and brightness slightly. Caulked a mirror and put water on it. Luckily the caulking sealed it up well enough.
Day 72 of 365
There were beautiful spots to click in "water world" but they were full of people most of times, I was going to my room with mother when I saw there wasn't anybody around this little fall so I set the tripod with the camera, the exposure, etc, and asked mom to press the timer... this is the result.
I'm so grateful to have spent a few days there, I really needed to energize, get in touch with nature, remind myself of the beautiful things in life and leave the rotten ones behind. ...and as a bonus, I came back with a couple of cool photos... this is one of my favorites.
for different reasons I haven't been that active on Flickr lately, I'm sorry for that and not being able to visit very often my contacts and friends vwho post here, I really appreciate your comments, faves and support. But stay tuned my friends, there is more to come.
~
I'd just arrived in our room at the hotel in Buenos Aires after a long day out and about, saw that beautiful light that was it! I changed quickly, set the camera on the tripod, timer and clicKs! I wanted to throw myself in bed and just relax for a little while, I'm glad I didn't, this turned out to be one of my favorite self portraits so far.
=> I'm regurlay changing photos on My Website.

1- I love my Family, I miss my late Dad every day, still learning to deal with his passing away.
I was born in Niterói/Rj, where most of my family lives. I've lived in 5 cities, Curitiba is the one I've been longer. I lived in Foz do Iguaçu from 10 to 18 years old, I grew up on a condominium by Paraná river, among children of Egineers who came from all over Brazil, to help make Itaipu Binacional happen. My father was one of them.
I had cool wonder years, living close to nature, friends with people with different accents and stories. Every year I had to say good-bye to a good friend though. I'm still in touch with some of them, it seems we all share the same feelings about those unforgettable times.
2- I value friendship, often put myself in other people shoes, I can be counted on. When I make a mistake I apologize, if I realize I'm wrong I admit it.
I like talking, I'm a good listener too. If a friend "screws up" in something important, I'm honest about my opinion, I don't pretend I agree just because we are friends. Friends often come to me when they are facing difficult times.
3- I love music, meaningful happenings in my life have their own soundtrack in my head. I usually have goose bumps when I listen to a song I love.
4- I love dancing, sometimes, while I'm working on the compter, I put a song I like, turn up the volume and dance for a couple of minutes, let my body move with the rhythm, it helps me relax and focus. Once in a while I feel like going to a party and Dance, it's been rare dancing songs I really like, when it happens I dance with my soul and body.
5- I'm a light sleeper, wake up easily, usually sleep with 3 pillows and a fan on, I connect with the sound of the fan or air conditioning. I love when I have the opportunity to fall asleep listening to the sound of waves or falls.
6- I love walking, I walk pretty fast, I like walking on beaches and parks. I'm always barefoot at home, I love it on the beach, grass, everywhere it feels good! I also love shoes, if I could I'd have hundreds!
7- I'm a peaceful person, I don't mess around with others, I don't like to be messed around. If I need to stand up for myself and the ones I care about, I certainly Do. If somebody tries to screw me, act in a mean way, tells lies about me, things like that, I'll keep the person away from me.
It usually takes a lot to make me furious, if it happens it can get tempestuous, one wouldn't want to be around, I rarely get to this point, I do my best not to.
I'm myself wherever I am.
I'm not a fan of people who one day act like a friend and the other like they don't know you, and lame attitudes alike. Not a fan of those who are always trying to take advantage of others either. I dislike when people are Rude.
8- Travelling is one of the things I love the most, there are so many places, countries I'd like to visit. I wish every 3/4 months I could travel to places I want to, that would be awesome!!
9- I dream a lot when I'm sleeping, sometimes it feels I go to other dimensions, many dreams are so vivid, real, some seem to last so long that they feel like a movie. From 6 years old till when I was around 11, every time I had a nightmare I would scream "POTENCY" and would wake up immediately, one day this word stopped working. Nowadays when a dream is horrible I manage to wake up somehow. I could write many lines just about dreams I've had all my life. Some of them are like a warning, when I dream about dirty water (and other particular things) bad news/things are on the way. I've had 2 serious premonition dreams, It's been a long time since the last one.
10- I love animals, we used to have cats and dogs all my life, after the last one died, we haven't had any but I miss them a lot. I can't understand why some people are cruel to animals.
11- I' m a romantic person, I believe in love. I like holding hands, kissing, cuddling, hugging. I have no problem in showing my affection to the ones I love/like. Words are important to me but Attitudes are More Important.
12- I love movies, going to the theaters, eating popcorn while watching a good movie. I often cry, have goose bumps when a beautiful scene touches me.
13- I read very fast, when I have time I read many books in a row. I love reading on the beach, under a sun umbrella.
14- I love good food, going to good restaurants, love it! I like spicy food, mixing salt with sweet, I like almost everything! including candies, cakes, merengues, chocolate, ice cream... I'm a little "ant"! I like cooking but I haven't had any time to cook.
15- "Looks can be Deceiving", what I value the most in people: Character, Ethic, sense of Friendship, Consideration, Honesty, Sincerity, Loyalty, Goodness. I cannot stand arrogance, envy. The more I grow older the more selective I've become about people in my personal life.
16- Violence in general, evil... these things scare me.
... I'm a slow typist, not good at typing! which means it took me a while to type this list!
I could go on, but I've passed the 16 things quite some time ago... :~)
A self portrait taken as a storm approached! Good thing I had his spare grenade in my bag to take this awesome photo!
Every morning, first thing, I read my "Daily Word" . . .
I loved today's message and wanted to share . . .
"My power of imagination allows me to transcend my day-to-day reality and conjure new identities for myself. Just as I can don a mask and try on a new persona, I can remake my self-image as my soul evolves. I use this spiritual gift to expand my world as I put my gifts and talents to use.
My imagination frees me and carries me high above all worldly limitations. I use it to shape my life according to the imaginings of my inner vision. My foundation of faith steadies me as I pursue my goals.
My limitations fall away as I conceive of great adventures and accomplishments. I believe in my ability to dream big and know I can achieve anything I imagine."
Stay safe everyone! Please use your masks in many ways,
but especially for protection.
I've had this Self Portrait for more than 1 year, waiting to use it when my Website was finally ready. I didn't know it would take so long and I'd have to hire another professional to deliver it... I've been through a lot to finally have My own Site on the web. It still needs some adjusts, I'll make them in the future, for now, I'm happy to tell you that "it's Alive". =>MY WEBSITE
I apologize if you have a slow internet connection, if you don't like the song (I love it- by Gui Boratto- I'm trying to find the second one) you can either turn down its volume on your computer or hit ' stop'. You can also just sit and enjoy a Slide Show of 100 photos before or after starting to click on the Links.
I'd like to thank some special people:
Luciano Pessoa (lumrp@onda.com.br) who made the animation of my logo and gave it to me,: Kevin Stecyk, for registering my dominium in my name, 2 years ago, in order to protect me;
the Writer and Translator Carlos Irineu, for helping me with the text there when I was too tired even to write; Eduardo Franchesi, the Talented Designer of my site. Annuska and Inkognitu for giving me feedback on it when I needed. My Mother who's been following my effort to put the site on the air, and the Support of many of my contacts here, when I spoke my mind in May, about my great distress regarding the previous website.
I don't remember being as busy and as tired as I've been in the last weeks, I still have many photos to deliver to clients, sorry for my absence, lately the only thing I've done is related to my site and clients, I need a break, desperately, I really do.
I hope you enjoy my Website! Cheers from a very tired woman right now, but relieved!
I got up and felt really pro-active today. I've been to town and tried to get my film roll developed, the shop was shut- very annoying. But at least I got distracted by the winter sales and spent a tonne on clothing....
After coming home I realised that this was one of the rarest weekends ever. I didn't have work on both days. I was actually free to do something today, so I went out and shot this, and a few more bits that I'll upload in the week.
plz press dah L key! It looks so much better on black.
FACEBOOK~ Like me up YO'
This is racy for me. I never would have been able to post a picture like this a year ago. I'm sure that my family will be a little uncomfortable, but you know what? This, to me, is such a symbol of how far I've come both in terms of confidence in my composition skills as a photographer and also in my self confidence and comfort in my own skin. It helps that I've lost about thirty pounds since I started this 365 too. Anyway, this is day five of my series for Seven Deadly Sins Week in totw. Today I give you lust.
Lust or lechery is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. Aristotle's criterion was excessive love of others, which therefore rendered love and devotion to God as secondary. In Dante's Purgatorio, the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful/sexual thoughts and feelings. In Dante's "Inferno", unforgiven souls of the sin of lust are blown about in restless hurricane like winds symbolic of their own lack of self control to their lustful passions in earthly life.
One outtake in the comments that is super similar because I really couldn't decide which I liked better. And you should know my m.o. by now...if I can't choose, I just throw the second choice up in the comments. ;)
365 Days (self portraits): Day 359
TOTW: Seven Deadly Sins - Lust
52 Weeks of Feeling Fit: Week 12
I decided to make my first shrine. I figured it should be on a subject I know a lot about. There is nothing I know more about than ME!
Each room is dedicated to a personality trait or an internal struggle.
See my photostream for closeups of each room.
self portrait taken in Nannai, Pernambuco, Brazil - July, 2009. (little tripod, timer and I ran to be in the frame in time)
After many busy months, dead lines, rushing and rushing, I felt the need to go somewhere quiet, peaceful, where the sun would be warm at this time of the year, recharge "some of my batteries". I reserved a week to fly away to Nannai, an amazing place to be. It's winter in Brazil, around 22/24 celsius there, It's also the rainy season, it rained almost everyday, even though I got to see the sun shine, beautiful blue water and sky! Good winter there I'd say, quite different from winter in Curitiba! If you're planning a trip to Brazil, if you want to be in a beautiful, comfortable place, close to nature, have great food and service, relax, this resort is an Excellent choice!
I wish I could have stayed longer, it already feels like a dream to me, now that I'm back in Curitiba.
Traveling is one of my Greatest Passions, in my opinion, it's one of the best investments in life. It's such a big world, so many wonderful places out there! Sometimes we need to take a break, rest, unplug, fly away... Live.
note: Flickr is still slow around here.
Viver!

They say many things about critics. That everyone is one, that you're your own worst one. But they say other things too. For example, Fall down seven times, get up eight. You're never going to be everyone's cup of tea, so please toss another cube of sugar in your cup and be a little sweeter to yourself. You have love to give and are loved. It's an awfully scary thing to do, but try to pry open the fist holding your heart and let light in, little bits at a time. Take whatever time you need. You will lose lots of things. Your keys, one mitten, weight, grandparents, love, trust, your way, and sometimes faith. Don't worry, these things come back to you in a different form, in a way that suits you much better.
This image features a young woman seated at a table in a stylish, contemporary café. Behind her hangs a large black-and-white portrait of herself, echoing her pose and presence with subtle intensity. The composition invites reflection on identity and the duality of self-perception versus outward appearance. There is a calm, introspective mood to the scene, where the subject seems both observed and observing. Light and focus work in unison to highlight the equilibrium between private thought and public space.
