Stranger project
So this is my first stranger in the project... took me three days to overcome the fear. I'm really not the chatty type when it comes to asking permission. Maybe that'll change eventually :)
Captured in the streets of Copenhagen Denmark
I'm very open for constructive criticism! Thank you
Update:
My girlfriend and I were walking inbetween brief showers of rain when i spotted this guy. I guess a have a thing for beards :)
I approached him and asked if I could make a portrait of him for this project and that it would take less than one minute. He agreed with a shrug on the shoulder. I grabbed my camera took two steps back, lowered my ISO a bit (wrong choice), took 4 pictures and then thanked him. And we both went our seperate ways as a new shower was beginning.
My theory and workflow is founded on the notion that the best pictures are being made within the first 5 frames after that people tend to become very selfaware, which shines through.
This picture is #1 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
The light was just right for this scene to present itself. I can see it as the frame for a garden statue or a fountain. And I have such a statue in mind....a large cupid with paintbrush and pallette, waiting to find a perfect spot. Several times this background has presented itself in front of my eyes, asking to have my attention, a lovely spot wanting adornment.
Incidentally, I am reading the book CONSCIOUSNESS and it seems I am aware my conscious mind did not realize the subconscious one wanted or needed some ornamentation of this spot. It is a lovely spot I see every pretty morning when I sit beneath the chartreuse deck umbrella with my coffee and the dogs nearby.
It is a message tto wake up and smell the roses????

An excerpt: Sometimes, emotions can really misguide you. Emotions should be intact with intellectualism. If the intellect is separated from emotions, you are in trouble.
have you ever gotten lost in awe and wonder while gazing at the stars? it is mind boggling how incredibly spaceous the universe is.. and it can make you feel very insignificant and small.. yet i also believe that we each have a role to play..a divine purpose.. even when it may not look like it.. we may not know how we effect and influence each other... we are all connected, we are one.. only we think that we are seperate from each other and everything else. this is the grand illusion of man... the dream of form

Self-love will turn you into an animal. Divine love will make you a wonderful person.
An excerpt:
“Every form of love is intoxicating. Whether it is carnal love, monetary love, self-love or Divine Love, love is really addictive. However, the most dangerous form of love is self-love. In self-love only, you harm and hurt others. You take their lives. You ruin their lives.”

How’s this for irony?
Having been alerted to the fact that today is Judgement Day; the day that Skynet becomes self aware I thought it the perfect opportunity to dress up all butch and take a Linda Hamilton photo to celebrate. I Googled to find the shot that I wanted to recreate, clicked on one particular image out of the hundreds of results that came up and what do you know it brings with it a virus! I then spent the next two hours fretting and downloading anti virus software on top of anti virus software on top of anti software viruses.
Skynet really is fighting back, just not in the dramatic James Cameron envisaged way. Instead of wiping us all out with fricking laser beams and robots crunching on our skulls it is simply going to plant viruses in our computers and watch us eat ourselves from the inside out with anxiety!
'There's no Cake but what we make for ourselves.'
My boss says this saying a lot, it's usually preceded by me stating something like "I'm such an idiot!" I've learned so much about myself in the last hundred days. Looking back through my own photography sort of amazes me. I can't believe I've stuck with this project for as long as I have. Not that I'm a quitter necessarily, I just tend to get distracted. So, in light of me making it this far, I figured I'd share some things that 100 days into a project of my own self reflection has shown me.
時 Getting over Luke so quickly showed me that I didn't really love him. That was sort of tough to swallow since I was planning on getting out to be with him. Sometimes, your heart is fooled by trying to do something practical. I now look back on him as simply an investment of my time wasted. Sad but true.
時 While my friend count has sort of dwindled down, the people who are close to me now know me better than anyone ever has. I put myself out there for anyone to see, whether it's Flickr or real life. I have never really considered myself to be a private person but I feel like if I lay everything out on the line, then no one can accuse me of not being true to myself. This exclusion of privacy has cost me, and I know I haven't been the best friend, but I'm working on that too.
時 I'm incredibly hard on myself. I'm my toughest critique, that's why I took on a 365 self project to begin with. But I spend a lot of time trying to compare my work to others, my beauty to other women, or the things I don't have to those I envy. I've realized I'm doing it, and I'm trying to believe deep down that I am what I am. I can't photoshop my life for real, so I have to make the most of it.
時 Moving forward is sometimes a very difficult thing to do. I didn't realize my heart was so fortified. But, I suppose when you've had it squished as many times as I have, whether it was from a lover or friend, its tough to put yourself right back out there. Yes, I just said squished.
時 I miss Kentucky. Well, not the state necessarily, but the people in it. My family don't come to see me, and I can't make it out there as often as I want to. Getting older I've realized the importance of being close to your family. And, sadly the only people in it I'm really close to are my parents and sister. It's a little painful, but it's just as much my fault as it is theirs. What's more, is I have a lot of really great friends there that are going on living their lives and I'm missing out. It's tough being in the military some days. But I know they miss me as much as I miss them.
時 I'm still as confused about my life as I was 100 days ago. I figured after three months I'd be more in tune with the direction I need to go in. But...nope. That's not the case.
時 What's worse is I'm still as much of a procrastinator as I was 3 months ago. I took a nap today and forgot to set my alarm. This wasn't the picture I wanted for today, but because I slept, like, 3 hours, I sort of missed out. That's a reoccurring theme I want to break. I'm tired of missing out because I'm tired.
時 I have too much on my plate. But that will probably never change. I've become better at crisis control. I can only hope that keeps up.
時 I love photography more than I ever could have imagined. Amber told me today that I found my calling. It's a little intimidating, but it's true that I love it more than any hobby I've ever attempted. And I seem to be all right at, so I'm willing to put my big toe in the water.
時 I have a shitty diet. John pointed that out yesterday. I'm headed to the grocery store right now. I want to be healthier, and he's right that it starts with, you know, actually eating.
"Never believe that the so-called random events of life are anything less than God’s appointed order. Be ready to discover His divine designs anywhere and everywhere." ~Chambers
i have been thinking about the future, lately. i'm not usually prone to thinking this way, it might just be this season of life. i don't really like dwelling on this kind of thinking, if it's in a negative way, but if it's positive thinking, then the sky is the limit.
however, when i came across this quote, it was such a reminder to be "aware" of all the moments that surround me. what divine design is awaiting me? not in the "future" but in the next few moments?

Achieving Daily Thinking Balance
How am I?
Who am I?
Where am I?
What is my purpose ..(?)
fun fact:
for body balance, Incorporate both types of exercise into a fitness routine: 'aerobic exercise' is when the cardiovascular system is used to increase endurance and 'anaerobic exercise' is less repetition with more strength usage that will increase muscle mass.

Recently, a friend asked me what I believe. No one has ever asked that of me before.
I think explaining this is a good start to a new year:
I believe that we have this one life. I believe that we should treat all living things with respect, as we reasonably can. I believe that we should take responsibility for our actions. I believe in love. I believe in kindness. I believe in mutual respect.
I believe that we have the power to do amazing things. I believe in helping each other. To be an individual. To have no master. To believe in yourself, not what others say what to believe in. To embrace the dark half, not bury it or remove it. But to love it, in order to be whole. To be knowledgeable as best you can. To listen to reason. To be open.
I don’t believe in gods.
I don’t believe in devils or demons.
I think that it’s all based on mythology created by man to explain what can’t be explained. However, others believe it and I will respect their beliefs. So long as they do not force it on me, as was done so in the past.
2019 started OK. Then it nose dived.

SACEM This documentary may change your life! Watch till the end!! The sensory inputs from the 5 sense organs-eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin are received by brain through nervous systems in the form of electromagnetic signals. There is no actual physical transfer or relocation of original light, sound, smell, taste and touch to the brain! Brain receives all sensory inputs of original light, sound, smell, taste and touch as mere electromagnetic signals! So, who is the being that watches the bright, shining and beautiful external world from the dark room inside the brain? Who is the being that hears the external world from the quiet room inside the brain? Who is the being that smells the external world from the odorless room inside the brain? Who is the being that tastes the external world from the ‘tasteless’ room inside the brain? Who is the being that touches the external world from the ‘untouched‘ room inside the brain?

Closeup image of an Asian Elephant (Indian
Elephant) photographed in Karizanga National Park in Assam, India.
According to Wikipedia, Asian elephants are highly intelligent and self-aware. They have a very large and highly convoluted neocortex, a trait also shared by humans, apes and certain dolphin species. Asian elephants have the greatest volume of cerebral cortex available for cognitive processing of all existing land animals. Elephants have a volume of cerebral cortex available for cognitive processing that exceeds that of any primate species, and extensive studies place elephants in the category of great apes in terms of cognitive abilities for tool use and tool making. They exhibit a wide variety of behaviors, including those associated with grief, learning, allomothering, mimicry, play, altruism, use of tools, compassion, cooperation, self-awareness, memory, and language. Elephants are reported to go to safer ground during natural disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes, although there have been no scientific records of this since it is hard to recreate or predict natural disasters.
Elephants are crepuscular. They are classified as megaherbivores and consume up to 150 kg (330 lb) of plant matter per day. They are generalist feeders, and both grazers and browsers, and were recorded to feed on 112 different plant species, most commonly of the order Malvales, and the legume, palm, sedge and true grass families. They browse more in the dry season with bark constituting a major part of their diet in the cool part of that season. They drink at least once a day and are never far from a permanent source of fresh water. They need 80–200 litres of water a day and use even more for bathing. At times, they scrape the soil for clay or minerals.

The Miracle of Life is this Love that is present when this sense of separation, which is the mind searching for something, disappears. When the illusion is seen as illusion, it falls, and we witness That, which has never been absent: Love, that is this Mystery. Now, I speak about this Real Mystery, not the mystery imagined by the mind, but the Love that Life is.~M. "Growth" is the theme for this week's MACRO MONDAY group pool. I think "Self Awareness" qualifies often as "Growth" so these cocktail napkins at a friend's home while playing bridge seems appropriate!! I've been waiting to find an occasion to upload this one. And this seemed like the perfect time.
Happy Macro Monday, everyone!! This is the first of two images posted for this week's theme. If you have time, please check out the next one too! And thank you for your visits and comments and faves - they are so appreciated.
