The root of ego is nothing other than a wrong belief, ""I am John"" From this, countless other beliefs generate, the end result being worldly attachment.

If someone insults us, we will feel hurt and our anger will multiply. After the realization of the Self, one will have the awareness that bad words are given to the name of the body and not to us (the pure Soul).

We all try to find happiness by doing different activities, spending time with people, and acquiring things. But that happiness does not last. Lasting happiness can only be found with right understanding. Once you obtain right understanding you will no longer experience unhappiness. That right understanding is obtained from realizing that your are in fact a Pure Soul. This can be experienced after you obtain the knowledge of the Self from the Self-Realized One.

I’ve always been skeptical about that advice
If I followed my every whim and emotion
They’d lead me to a detonator
Reduce my life and family to rubble
Maybe I’ve misunderstood
There are consistent longings and aversions
Compulsions and phobias
Rather than do what I ought
What I must
What I would do
If I were someone else
I must do what I’m inclined to do
In spite of superego’s protests
What I love
What brings me joy
Satisfaction
And all the noble deeds
Well I’m sorry
Someone else will need to do them
Someone with different dreams and nightmares
Someone with a different heart.

Akram path is an exceptional path, in which Self Realization is achieved through grace of the Gnani. This is different from the step by step path where they have to remove anger, pride, deceit, greed and then slowly they achieve Self Realization.
