SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii – Fifteen Soldiers, from the 25th Infantry Division, were honored for their contributions and selfless service during a retirement ceremony Dec. 4 at Sgt. Smith Theater on Schofield Barracks. The hosts for the event were Col. David B. Womack and Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey D. Sweezer, 2nd Brigade Combat Team command team. On behalf of the 2nd Bde. KENYA, Nyeri: In a photograph taken 21 May 2015, and made available by the Kenyan Ministry of East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism (MEAACT), nuns sit inside a church ahead of Kenya and Africa's first Roman Catholic beatification ceremony. Final preparations are being made to host thousands of worshippers, officials and visitors who are expected to congregate 23 May for the event in the town of Nyeri approx. 150 kilometers north of the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The ceremony is a critical step towards sainthood for Irene Stefani, an Italian nun and missionary who is beloved in Nyeri and its environs for her selfless service to wounded World War One soldiers and ailing locals alike. 2010 Selfless Senior, Wynton Jamal El, volunteers at Storehouse West, stocking canned goods for families in need. He has volunteered at Joy Junction serving meals to families. He also has volunteered at the Natural History Museum, engaging the public through hands-on educational activities, and during the last national election, he canvassed for presidential and congressional candidates. Wynton serves as a science fair mentor and an algebra, geometry and trigonometry tutor. During the summer, he works with elementary and middle school students at a UNM enrichment program. He has had a positive impact on these youth, serving as a role model who exemplifies hard work, dedication and honesty.

The award was approved by the Commander of the U.S. Army Alaska Aviation Task Force, Col. Nick Snelson, and by the Commander of the 1-52nd Aviation Regiment, Lt. Col. Thomas J. Barrett.
Mrs. Stacy Jarvis and Ms. Rachel Oldfield provided snacks, hot beverages and smiles, to Soldiers while waiting for deployment transportation as Soldiers returned from their recent tour in Afghanistan. Their dedication was said to have been truly amazing, and their efforts were greatly appreciated. They were both recognized for their public service Dec. 10, 2014, at the Last Frontier Community Activity Center at Fort Wainwright by Maj. Gen. Michael H. at the Camp Zama Community Club. The ceremony revealed the youth and adult Outstanding Volunteers of the Year as well as the Outstanding Volunteer Family of the Year.

It's rare to see a swallow perching in our neighbourhood. They spend almost all of the sunlit hours selflessly dedicated to the public service of reducing the abundance of pesky little insects! (Hope this description doesn't offend lovers of such critters!)

Leo and I are looking for pieces of art to fill our new home. We have nothing except a few photos and old college posters. Our only rule is we want to support independent artists, preferably locally, and we have to love the piece.
Leo's long been a skateboarder/surfer/snow boarder/strap crap to feet and hurtle down a hill person. We saw this at a live show the other night and Leo and I both loved it, right away.

During a recent cleanup event, St. Paul District staff, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employees and Living Lands and Waters volunteers completed a cleanup of Big Slough in Mississippi River Pool 9 from April 3-12. In August of 2016, flooding on the Upper Iowa River resulted in washing large amounts of man-made and woody debris into Big Slough. The team removed nearly 90 cubic yards of man-made debris and re-opened approximately 0.8 miles of slough by pushing the woody debris to the outside of the channel. The result is restoration of high quality aquatic habitat for fish, wildlife and the people who enjoy these resources. THANK YOU Living Lands and Waters volunteers Luke and Dan, shown with Corp employee Ray Marinan, and the rest of your staff, for all your help with the Big Slough debris cleanup. We couldn't have done it without you! Volunteers are essential to the St. Paul District’s mission. 2010 Selfless Senior, Peter Dailey, tutors history students and helps Eldorado teachers with computer and technical issues. Outside of school, he serves as a youth minister at his church, helping students prepare for the confirmation process. He isn’t one to stand by when help is needed.
