We remember those who served their countries, paid the ultimate price, and did not return to their families and loved ones, how valiant and selfless they were. I remember them each time I see a machine of war, knowing that even in peace, soldiers, sailors, and air crews can perish in the strenuous training and preparation needed for them to keep us ultimately safe and free.

The words “Stand and deliver!” conjure up images of handsome, gallant gentlemen on well-groomed horses, their faces hidden by masks, relieving carriage passengers of their worldly possessions. It’s an idealized image of men who were oftentimes little more than robbers only looking out for themselves, but, oddly, it was an image that many highwaymen achieved even during their own day.For some reason, these men (and, occasionally, women) escaped the stigma that is associated with most criminals, becoming a gallant class of selfless individuals who robbed the rich to give to the poor. Unfortunately, the poor didn’t always figure into the equation.
The last time I visited St Justinians in Pembrokeshire, Wales there was only one life boat station, which had existed since 1869. It closed in 2016 and during its active life the crews saved more than 360 lives at sea from 420 launches. It has been a listed building since 1992 which means it cannot be demolished or substantially altered without prior approval from the local authority.
Construction of the new station alongside began in 2014. It opened in 2016 and provided all the most modern equipment necessary to carry out rescue operations at sea.
Like several other essential rescue organizations in Great Britain, the RNLI is not funded by the Government and most of their revenue comes from charitable donations. The most important aspect of its operation are the staff who crew the lifeboats. Virtually all of them are volunteers who give up their time to go to the help of people in distress at sea. They can be called out when required 24 hours a day 365 days a year no matter what the weather. The bravery and commitment of the crews is undisputed. Selfless men and women all of them and as a society we are lucky to have them!

Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed and pure breed that need to be rescued each year and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives. So many dogs put their lives on the line every day, for personal protection, for law enforcement, for the disabled. drug sniffer dogs and bomb detecting dogs.
Camera shy Minky falls into the category of being a rescued dog and is happy to celebrate Dog Day doing something she loves, snuggling in her fleece. She hopes many dogs will be adopted into their forever homes and those dogs that serve us are given special treats and loads of love today and every day.

To Love Like the Moon . . . 💜💙
" Selfless love is a rare gem that shines brightly in a world where selfish desires often take precedence. It does not seek to possess, control, or manipulate. Rather, it is like the moon that doesn't steal the night but shines on the night sky, revealing the beauty that lies within the darkness.
In contrast, a hunger for love is often driven by a selfish desire to take and possess. This kind of love is more focused on stealing and sharing the happiness and beauty of one's partner rather than supporting and nurturing them.
Selfless love is a true reflection of the purest form of affection, one that radiates kindness, compassion, empathy, and strength to love without love's thirst and attention's leeching.
Don't love like a leech or parasite, always taking and never giving. It's like a barren land longing for rain and no woman would be happy with such a relationship. Instead, true love means supporting and developing each other, much like a garden where both partners can grow and thrive together... 💞"

Never forget the events of September 11, 2001 when our passenger airliners were turned into weapons against our own citizens. Always remember those brave souls on Flight 93 who rallied against their terrorist captors and crashed that airliner in Pennsylvania , the brave and selfless who rushed into the burning monoliths we referred to as the Twin Towers whose efforts thwarted and reduced the horrific number of casualties. It import to convey this message to future generations.
Another image from last years photo walk with NYC Photographers of the Tribute in Lights taken in Manhattan on the southern gate of City Hall Park. It was at the behest of one of our brilliant organizers Chris because of the converged perspective. Always on point with his suggestions love the resulting image. The first time I went to capture images of the Tribute in Lights, it was still being staged at what then was referred to Ground Zero, internal bickering between NY state, NYC and Silverstein Holdings had delayed the rebuild of the WTC site in actuality nothing emerged from the slurry walled 16 acre pit until 2012 when One World Center’s base finally emerged at street level. Accompanied that my night by my now deceased son age about 9-10 if I recall , we drove to Hoboken, I took some Ektachrome images on my Minolta X-700 film camera with my 70-210 mm F/4 Rokkor MD lens. Sadly the lab that developed my slides from that night ignored the guide pictures I initially took an sliced most of the Tribute in Lights images up, maybe one usable slide on the whole roll. Alex would not really come on many more photo adventures with me as he moved on to Nintendo and his much loved skateboards. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @nycurbanism @nycprimeshot @nybucketlist @911memorial @siruiusa @siruiimaging
Well it wasn't quite the height of golden hour but still pretty. This is looking towards Vancouver's West End. At 7pm it was amazing to hear the reverberating cheers, clapping, ringing, and banging of pots & pans all around us in support of all essential workers who are selflessly keeping things going right now for us all.
Sunrise comes pretty early in Northern Ireland this time of year… I was up just past 4 am to catch it on this side of the Magheracross Viewpoint, only about 15 minutes from our hotel in Portrush (pronounced as though two words, port rush). A little over two years ago, my friend Evelyn McCullough brought me here as a first stop among many along the coastal highway, which is replete with stunning scenery. I dedicated this particular morning by retracing that time in tribute to Evelyn, though by myself this time. Dear Evelyn is in hospice at the MacMillan Unit in Antrim, where she is in palliative care due to incurable cancer. We were proud and appreciative to meet with her a last time during this trip… she has been a great inspiration to all who have known her, for even in the face of death, she lived life in a selfless fullness that so few others do even without such troubles. This image would not have been possible without her. I’ll never forget her. Please pray for her and her family and friends.

Strolling through Circle B Bar Reserve, I came across this Limpkin feeding her chick. As usual, mom is trying to make sure junior get plenty of nourishment. Circle B Bar Reserve is a wetland reserve located near Lakeland, Florida.
The Limpkin measures 26 inches (66 cm) from beak-tip to tail-tip and seems to get very little respect or notice from photographers.
The sad effects of the wildfires in Jasper and the rest of the National park.... this view a bit up on Maligne Lake road
Thank you to all first responders who fought to protect Jasper. They worked tirelessly day and night, to protect this community, which to many, is their home. Their selflessness and bravery are truly commendable – we will always remember the extraordinary dedication they displayed during the challenging early days of this wildfire response.
The Jasper fires refer to the devastating Jasper wildfires of July 2024, which destroyed approximately 30% of the townsite, forced the evacuation of 25,000 people for nearly a month, (and continuing) and significantly impacted properties and infrastructure, though critical facilities were saved. Fueled by lightning and extreme drought conditions, the monstrous fire complex generated its own weather and rapidly consumed the area.
Impact:
Approximately 358 buildings, including homes and two churches, were destroyed.
About 25,000 residents and visitors were evacuated.
Critical infrastructure like the hospital and schools remained intact. The wildfire complex created its own weather system with a wall of flame up to 100 meters high.

.... Canada’s Sovereign for over 70 years, Head of State in fourteen other countries and Head of the 56-member Commonwealth of Nations. Supported by her husband, the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen visited every province and territory of Canada over 22 visits, met many thousands of Canadians from all walks of life, and had a particularly warm relationship of mutual respect with the First Nations of this land. For the vast majority of Canadians, she is the only monarch we have ever known, and her passing is a significant moment in our common life together. We give thanks to her life of selfless service and duty and service to our nation and the Commonwealth. ....

This is exactly how I want to remember the Twin Towers, not the horror of deliberate Islamic terrorism and destruction on September 11, 2001. The anniversary of that is coming up this Sunday. Please say a prayer for those who perished by smoke inhalation, burning alive or jumping as a desperate way of escape. (and all this for just showing up at work that day). Also remember the first responders who selflessly dug into the incredibly dangerous toxic "pile" when looking for survivors, which there were none of.
SciFi Expo 2022 & S.O.S. Wrap Up and Thank you!
Bulletproof Next were fortunate to participate as performers for the SciFi Expo 2022 last month. The event is fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" charity program. As performers, all of the money donated during our concert went 100% to this fund-raising campaign, and we couldn't be more proud!
ARMY in RL have a long history of selfless and generous charity donations, and so as ARMY ourselves, we were proud to carry that behavior into SL. This is also thanks to the wonderful ARMY and BTN fans who came to the concert with loaded pockets that they emptied generously into the donation kiosk.
Every L$ counts, and with our combined effort, we were able to raise L$25,000 (US$100.00) for the charity, earning an honorable mention of 6th highest fund-raising event of the whole Expo! The total combined raised donations for SciFi Expo 2022 is L$2,411,149 (US$9,644.60), a new historic high for the event!
You can read the full thank you post on the website: scifiexpo.org/blog/thank-you-2022/
We also participated in Spoonful of Sugar Festival which benefits Doctors Without Borders charity, where ARMY raised another L$20,000 in our 1 hour set! You can check more about that event here: www.thesosfestival.com
We're so proud to work with noble charities in SL, demonstrating the power of ARMY's giving heart to help people all around the world! Thank you everyone who participated! We're very excited to be involved in future charity fundraising events in SL!
My in-laws are flower farmers and work with the sun, dawn to dusk, putting the flowers to sleep and waking them up, every single day. They work alone, never complain, grow thousands of flowers each season and remain selfless. It's Easter but there is work to do.

This is the new Weeping Window poppy installation at Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent. It opened to the public today and visiting is limited to booking tickets online with 30 minute slots from 1000 -1530 hrs each day. It is free. But already booked for weeks to come on certain days of the week. Or you can do as I did and go and stand across the far side of the canal and try to take shots through the gap. Unfortunately I went too late when the sun had already dipped behind the clouds on the horizon just before sunset.
I had really wanted to see the whole thing at The Tower of London and had seriously considered driving down to take photos at 5.00am in the morning, but I never quite did it...and regretted it ever since. Now there have been these displays all over the country, some more spectacular than others. Whilst I love the old pottery brickwork and the bottle kilns I think this one looks dangerously like a bottle of tomato ketchup, and such thought is distinctly disrespectful to the real meaning of this memorial...no, celebration of the lives of those British soldiers who died in The Great War (World War I)
I've booked my tickets for a month away and hope then to be able to get closer and fully absorb the sense of selfless sacrifice these men made for our freedom one hundred years ago.

i had no intention of doing the flickr thing tonight, however I came home to find a package waiting on my doorstep and this is what i found inside - the most beautiful soft luscious handmade scarf made for ME.
My friend sazzy(sazzola to me ) has been a steady source of encouragement as well as support for me. Sazz knew that (like many of you others) that today is the 6 mos. anniversary of my fathers passing and she knit this for me- with a card that brought tears to my eyes. I can't tell you how this wonderful gesture makes me feel- Sazzy is Beyond thoughtful and caring and selfless.
It reminded me of the night of my fathers birthday and David and I went over after work to see him and things were so incredibly bad but none of us thought he would be gone a week later. I sobbed the whole way home and waiting for me on the doorstep was a package from cynthia(myslideshow) - i cried even more. Then the following day my mom called and said that Dad seemed better - go get together with your flickr friends and have fun - that was the day of the "jersey meet" and we had fun, and one week later my father was gone.
Its just fitting that i spent time with some of my favorite flickr friends yesterday on the anniv. and after having dinner with mom tonight and talking briefly about todays date to come home to find a package from another friend i met through flicrk.. It amazes me the human spirit..
I only hope that im not taking all the time, but giving as well, like you all...
Sazzola - I love you and thank you ...
thanks to all of you that continue to stand with me , support me . i am very blessed.

“A wedding ring is a symbol of commitment; a promise, a pledge, and a vow. The promise is to forsake all others, to stay devoted and true; the pledge is to honor that promise selflessly, to see the whole thing through; and the vow is to keep that pledge unwaveringly, until the days are few. It is a mutual agreement to become one instead of two.”

“We weren’t born distrusting and fearing ourselves. That was part of our taming. We were taught to believe that who we are in our natural state is bad and dangerous. They convinced us to be afraid of ourselves. So we do not honor our own bodies, curiosity, hunger, judgment, experience, or ambition. Instead, we lock away our true selves. Women who are best at this disappearing act earn the highest praise: She is so selfless. Can you imagine? The epitome of womanhood is to lose one’s self completely. That is the end goal of every patriarchal culture. Because a very effective way to control women is to convince women to control themselves.”

I don't even know what time it was
disbelieving, even now, of the cause
denial seems an affront to instinct -
a world can change so in just one blink
the turn of the year is nothing compared to that of human emotion
which can gamble on life, turning the world into one pitiless dungeon
bottomless, selfless in it's adverse demoralising torment
people seem the be all and end all of our evolutionary descent
stuck in reverse and seemingly accelerating backwards through memory
halting at a time displaying freedom of spirit which I recall vaguely
uncomplicated, dignity intact, pride not an issue, life the centre of all
survival was Winter withstanding, before neoteric slights could befall
under blankets of cloud, rainfall totting up, focusing becomes crystal
thus able to marvel in the clarity of nature's due; a cloudbreaking angel
the howling wind is now a paen of reason, a true self-motivator
filtering the sound in light of love unfound: desire in nature's angelic answer.

Stumbled across this photo tonight while going through my old photos. This is one of my favorite pictures of all time, but it very emotional. Very painful.
Here I am at age 17. Loving my first daughter from afar at her baptism. The daughter that I had so selflessly placed for adoption a few months earlier.
Looking back: Lessons I have learned since this day--
Love yourself. Period.
Love completely. But only those worthy of it.
Always be who you were meant to be. Never compromise.
And never let anyone mistreat you. Not even yourself.
Problem too big? Too Painful? Give it to God and you will never be alone again.
Hartley Bay harbour and breakwater, British Columbia. This photo show the large number of small fishing and recreational vessels from Hartley Bay that were the first on the scene to answer the distress call of the Queen of the North ferry that ran aground on Gil Island on March 22, 2006. The Gitga'at people arrived in a fleet of small watercraft in the dead of night to pick up survivors from the lifeboats and took them to Hartley Bay to provide them with food and shelter. The town's populace received the Governor General's Commendation for Outstanding Service on May 3, 2006, for "initiative, selflessness and an extraordinary commitment to the well-being of others" in the rescue; the honour also cites the town's "tremendous spirit and the remarkable example it has set".

We met this group of ladies in the highland near Pensi la pass...they had walked for weeks to reach the place where wild yaks would be abundantly available...they would camp there and collect the dung for months and would return home before winter would be arriving in October....they offered us butter tea and wide smile...an unforgettable lesson to learn as to how hard life and soft smile can so subtly walk on hand in hand...taken in Suru valley, Ladakh Himalayas, India
Life is an offering to itself....some does offer it to self only, while some other offer it selflessly....
These women were singing song while preparing community food for the devotees who would be visiting temple on that auspicious day of Uttarayan....the service they offer gives immense pleasure to them....it was a nice opportunity for me to experience it.

Photography should be real, truthful and hit hard at the senses whether it's a man without legs or a lovely sunset.
I do shoot both!
Part of my repertoire is shooting people in pain.
Social outcasts, people who have no advocacy and who survive on the generosity of others due to their disabilities.
I don't see life through rose colored glasses.........
For the last 4 decades I have been a physician, a shooter , a donator and a spiritual humanitarian visitor/ lecturer in international psychiatry on behalf of worldwide charitable organizations.
Here are just some of the organizations i have been associated with.

in the monkey temple of BENARES aka VARANASI
I recently spent time in three leprosy colonies where untrained volunteers cut through the dead skin of the feet of people with Leprosy. This alleviates some of the pain because although lepers do not feel their lesions the lesions do start to ulcerate and cause pain locally. Under poor lighting and in filthy surroundings this was being done
at all the centers.

16. Miraj- Sangli Indian psychiatrists- recently lectured in Feb 2013
Giving doesn't only mean money. I've visited Presbyterians missions worldwide to provide emotional and monetary support to let these selfless people who work for peanuts helping those who have no voice and no medical help in their countries, know their actions are not overlooked and are what makes the difference to so many millions of the downtrodden & disenfranchised worldwide.
17- Most recently i am involved with the CATHOLIC CHURCH in INDIA helping build homes for LEPERS and their children and schools for the children. The stigma of LEPROSY is huge and though CHILDREN do not have the disease due to ignorance they are not allowed in the general population.
This is being done in PURI, in the state of ORISSA in INDIA.

DO SOMETHING TO HELP THOSE LESS FORTUNATE.
Photography’s new conscience
And all of those people saw how it grew, the spirit of power, to become an awesome force, as day after day she and the companion sisters brought solace to the lepers, those most sadly afflicted of God's creatures, from whom the rest of mankind shrank in fear and revulsion. Each day, seven days a week, she and he company she led gave selfish humankind yet more examples of selflessness. In the presence of such charity, the most rabid bigot, the most liberated freethinker, even the most ambitious of politicians, must be humbled. As Robert Louis Stevenson would testify only five years later, after he had seen Mother Marianne and the sisters attending the lepers at Molokai, in their presence "even a fool is silent and adores."

...should have a friend like Rachel
My very good friend Rachel lives about 350 miles away, but is always there at the end of an email or the phone, regardless of how busy she is herself. She's the most genuine, thoughtful, caring and selfless person I've ever had the pleasure to meet.
I'd imagined these pretty tealight holders that she sent me as a gift would make a nice sparkly image, so it was good to have an excuse to join in with today's Macro Mondays theme `trinkets'.
I kept the dof as shallow as possible, to maximize the sparkle/bokeh... and I'm surprised I got away with shooting this handheld(ish), balancing my camera on a container, at 1/6.
With faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, there is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve - Quaid-i- Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Quaid-e-Azam Residency (Urdu: قائد اعظم ریزڈنسی—Qāʾid-e Aʿẓam Rẹziḋinsī), also known as Ziarat Residency, is located in Ziarat, Balochistan, Pakistan. It is where Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah spent the last two months and ten days of his life. It is the most famous landmark of the city, constructed in 1892 during the British Raj. The building is a wooden structure, originally designed as a sanatorium before being converted into the summer residence of the agent of the Governor General. It is declared a national monument and heritage site and is of great architectural importance.
On 15 June 2013, the Residency was targeted with rockets by terrorists and badly damaged.
However, it has been reconstructed and opened to public since 14 August 2014.
Jinnah is one of my ideals and is a symbol of dedication in the history of Indo-Pak subcontinent, today is his birthday.

Happy Easter my Friends and Family.
It's hard to say goodbye
This is not an easy day for me, to say the least. Today my dog, my baby, Maggie, passed away.
She has been very sick for the past few months, slowly getting older as all of us do, and it finally came to a point where it would be cruel of us to keep her alive for much longer with the suffering she was enduring. So today, she went in to the vet, and surrounded by my mom, dad, and little brother, she quietly went to sleep.
She's been in my family for almost thirteen years, more than half of my lifetime, and has been there through all our big moments and moves and hard times. In a very real way, she was another family member to us, and we love her more than anything. I think it always hits us hardest when a pet is taken from us, because it is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives, and even how much closer we become with each other because of them. They teach us about love and friendship and selflessness, and loyalty, above everything else.
She will be missed so much, but I'm happy she's in a better place now and doesn't have to hurt anymore.
I love you, Maggie. Rest in peace.
