I visited my favorite Superman statue in the small rural town of Metropolis, which is on the other side of the Ohio River from Paducah, Kentucky. I was quite surprised to see Superman sporting a mask.

Located near the entrance to the Flight 93 National Memorial stands the Tower of Voices. There is no other chime structures like the Tower of Voices in the world. The shape and orientation of the tower are designed to optimize air flow through the tower walls. The ninety-three foot tall musical instrument holds forty wind chimes each with a different tone, representing the forty passengers and crew members. Hearing them chime in the wind will hit you in your soul, it makes you feel like the crew and passengers are talking to you.
Flight 93 crashed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania on 9/11/2001. Passengers onboard the United Airlines flight heard about the attacks and 3 planes being crashed into the Pentagon and WTC 1 & 2. They knew their fate and they chose to be the first Americans to take the fight to the terrorist. The passengers and flight crew crashed through the door into the cockpit. During hand to hand fighting Flight 93 became inverted in a almost nose dive and crashed into the rural Pennsylvania field. The selfless act of the crew and passengers saved countless American lives. The first American Heroes of the long fight to come.
Of course, if the world is mine, Katie expects many, MANY more treats and toys. So she's not being entirely selfless here...
Christmas is a giving time. It is the season of selflessness, the joy of an undeserved but eternal gift. The month of miracles.
So why am I being so selfish? Why do I take it as I see around me- brown, dull, looming skies, and not for the feeling that once stirred so much inside me? Why do I look for a sign to see that this season is going my way? It’s as if I have this cookie cutter idea of what I expect the holiday to be, and the actual event is a fraction of an inch different than my expectations, I moan and marvel at how it just doesn’t seem like the way I knew before.
If I step back and assess my actions, it appears I am trying to make the season about me. It’s different for me this year, for various reasons. My schedule’s changed; it doesn’t allow time for gifts or greetings or even, dare I admit it, reflection on the origin of the celebration in the first place. I may have even reshaped my heart a bit, whether conscious of it or not. Somehow, in my twisted, self-absorbed brain, I’ve made it about what I can get from the hustle and bustle. How did I get my worship so warped?
I don’t have snow? It’s likely the first family of faith wasn’t greeted with flurries, either. But a storm stirred inside the manger that night, anyway. The storm of our salvation.
I don’t have time to take a breath? I doubt Mary did through all the months she carried our Savior, past the stares and jeers and endless travel on a donkey as she longed for a place of rest yet not to find it in a foreign land.
I have preconceived notions of the holiday? The first Christmas had no agenda or structure, other than a newborn to sleep quietly and build His soul’s strength before starting the quest to conquer death.
A star appeared. The angels sang. Wisemen journeyed across countries by camel. There’s the sign- God’s divine destiny. It all happened. As planned, according to the Father’s design, smoothly and without worry. And it was the best CHRISTmas ever.
Perhaps I have been too occupied with my to-do list rather than my to-Who list. After all, we wouldn’t even have a holiday to humble ourselves before had it not been for that silent night many years ago.
It’s time for me to slow down. Time for me to reflect and repent, and to fall at the tiny feet of Him who gave me the greatest, most freeing gift of all. The gift that granted me the right to celebrate life- His life, my life, our life- in the first place.
Over the weekend I witness the RNLI being deployed in New Brighton, I couldn't quite see who they were going to help but it was great to see the crowd waiting to catch a glimpse of these everyday heroes! After struggling for 10 minutes to open the lock of the gate I watched in anticipation as the guys came back onto dry land with the growing crowd. These guys really are selfless giving their time for free to put themselves in dangerous situations to help those in need at sea.

"I've seen too many brothers die. I vow to protect and preserve the lives of my brethren, over my own if necessary. At the academy, cadets used to joke that I was too selfless, drawing fire while my squad completed a mission. But, how can anyone be too selfless? We are - after all - clones. Soldiers. Cannon fodder. The pawns of the Republic and proud to be, if I'm going to die I might as well save as many lives as possible in the process.
That is the belief I have instilled in every man who has served with me and under me. Perhaps they were right; perhaps we were foolishly selfless. And perhaps I will get my brothers killed in vain.
Well until that day I vow to be the shield of the Republic. Bulwark squad will defend until it's dying breath."
"Her beauty is not just—or even primarily—physical. In her face, I see her wisdom, her compassion, her courage, her eternal glory. This other beauty, this spiritual beauty—which is the deepest truth of her—sustains me in times of fear and despair, as other truths might sustain a priest enduring martyrdom at the hands of a tyrant. I see nothing blasphemous in equating her grace with the mercy of God, for the one is a reflection of the other. The selfless love that we give to others to the point of being willing to sacrifice our lives for them, is all the proof I need that human beings are not mere animals of self-interest; we carry within us a divine spark, and if we chose to recognize it, our lives have dignity, meaning, hope. In her it is spark is bright, a light that heals rather than wounds me."

There is something gently wonderful about the selfless act of placing dropped and lost items out of harm's way, in the hope that the owner will return and find them.
Isla and Ikerhu met by chance when Eldurwen and I overlapped our characters' universes five years ago... It began with Isla's secret plan to seduce Ikerhu and follow him back to his home country of Aluzoria where her pursuers wouldn't find her. The seductress whose past self would use men of power to fulfill her goals found herself genuinely falling in love with the gentle and selfless elemental. Ikerhu who became deeply enchanted by Isla's charms found himself falling for her too.

"For Your To-Morrow We Gave Our To-Day"
The statue – symbolizes a new beginning. On top of the base of the statue is engraved “For your to-morrow we gave our to-day”. Engraved on the sides of the base are the names of the 51 Law Society memebers who lost their lives during WWII.

In 1939, with the outbreak of the Second World War, members of the legal profession rushed once more to serve their country by enlisting for active service. In total, almost one thousand Ontario lawyers and students-at-law saw active service before the conclusion of the war. Fifty of those selfless soldiers paid the ultimate price.
Although the number of deaths among members of the profession was significantly smaller than it had been during the First World War, the sense of loss felt by the legal community was no less acute.
In 1946, the Law Society established a War Memorial Committee to recommend ways in which to honour those members who had lost their lives during the Second World War. The committee, chaired by W.J. Beaton, asked Colonel Ferdinand Marani, a Toronto architect, to study the matter. Colonel Marani suggested that a memorial be placed in the lower Rotunda of Osgoode Hall and that Cleeve Horne, a leading portrait artist and sculptor, be asked to create it.
Fearing that the Society would want him to take a traditional approach personifying the sorrow and sadness of the war, Horne declined the commission. Earl Smith, the Society's Secretary at that time, won Horne over with his suggestion that he use the words of the poem "For Your To-Morrow We Gave Our To-Day" as his inspiration for the memorial. Inspired by the suggestion, Horne reversed his decision and accepted the commission.
His final concept was that of a woman looking upward to a baby held in her up-stretched arm. The sculpture, Horne felt, symbolized hope for the future through the sacrifice of those who fell.
When the preliminary model was ready for viewing, Secretary Smith became quite concerned that the statue of a naked woman might offend the Treasurer, Gershom Mason, who was a staid and stern man. Attempting to avert disaster, Smith took various small groups of Benchers to view the model. He purposely left Treasurer Mason's visit until the end by which time all the other Benchers had expressed their approval. To Smith's surprise and delight, however, the Treasurer was quite taken with the model and instructed that construction of the memorial should begin as soon as possible.
On October 16, 1951, Major John Foote, who had been decorated with the Victoria Cross and was at the time the provincial Minister of Reform Institutions, unveiled the war memorial.

Catherine Mompesson, wife of William Mompesson, she was aged 27 when she died, Catherine is remembered in Eyam for her selflessness during the 1665-1666 plague. Despite her frail health, she stayed to support the sick and assist her husband. After her death on August 25, 1666, she was buried in the churchyard, an honor reflecting her unique role. Her legacy is preserved through her tomb, annual memorial services like Plague Sunday, and commemorative plaques in the village, symbolizing her courage and sacrifice.
260 Eyam villagers died over the 14 months of the plague out of a total population of 800. 76 families were affected by the plague; many such as the Thorpe family were wiped out completely. However the impact on medical understanding was significant.
Lord, You had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of yourself that you had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, You set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, You stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. You didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, You lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.
Lord, I affirm you are strong and mighty, loving, loyal and tender. It took strength and love to be obedient on the cross. Forgive me yet sometimes I am fearful of riducule and get indignant when I am mistreated. Help me to grow to love You more everyday. May you give me the opportunity to spread Your love to all people from all tribes and nation.
In Your name I pray, Amen

A random act of kindness is a purportedly selfless act performed by a person or persons wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual or in some cases even an animal. There will generally be no reason other than to make people smile, or be happier. Either spontaneous or planned in advance, random acts of kindness are encouraged by various communities. An oft-cited example of a random act of kindness is, when paying the toll at a toll booth on a highway, to pay the toll for the vehicle behind you as well.
The phrase "Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty" may have been coined by peace activist Anne Herbert. Herbert says she wrote it on a placemat at a Sausalito restaurant in 1982 or 1983.
A book, Random Acts of Kindness, was released by Conari Press in 1993.
Established in 1995 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation promotes spreading kindness.
The movie Pay It Forward (2000) is largely based on Random Acts of Kindness.
The French film Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001) (Amélie) follows a young woman who engages in various random – and often anonymous – acts of kindness.
NOTE: Please feel free to share a story of some random act of kindness someone did for you.... or vice versa

The Lim Bo Seng Memorial is an octagonal pagoda-like war memorial at Esplanade Park, Singapore. It was erected in 1954 in honour of the late Lim Bo Seng for his heroic acts and selfless sacrifice during the World War II. The war memorial is the only structure in Singapore that commemorates an individual's efforts in World War II and was gazetted as a national monument in 28 December 2010.
The memorial was designed by Ng Keng Siang, the first overseas trained Singaporean architect, it was a 3.6 metres (12 ft) high Chinese National Style architecture of octagonal pagoda-like structure made of marble with a three-tier bronze roof, and the marble and concrete pedestal with four bronze lions stand guard around the memorial. The bronze roof and the bronze lions are imported from Hong Kong. Four bronze plaques imprinted with inscription account of Lim's life in English, Chinese, Tamil and Jawi, were installed around the memorial. The memorial occupied the site which was donated by the government measuring 100 feet (30 m) by 80 feet (24 m).
Major-General Lim Bo Seng was born on 27 April 1909 in Nan-an, Fukien, China. He came to Singapore at the age of 16. After studying at Raffles Institution and Hongkong University, he inherited his father's business in Malaya. Since 1937 he became prominent in anti-Japanese activities. When Singapore fell in 1942, he went to Chungking and on instructions from the Chinese government, he joined the underground resistance section of 136 Force under the Supreme Allied Command, South-East Asia, on 2 November 1943 as Commanding Officer of the Malayan Chinese section. He landed from a submarine at Bagan Bator in Perak to join the British and Chinese officers already working in Malaya, with anti-Japanese forces. Later he left the jungle to work in Ipoh, but he was discovered and arrested by the Japanese Military Police on 27 March 1944. He manfully endured repeated tortures to which he ultimately succumbed on 29 June 1944, at the age of 35. He died in the Batu Fajah prison, a martyr to the cause of a liberated Malaya and to his loyalty to his comrades. On 13 January 1946, he was buried with full military honours in Singapore.
From the underground steel cage fight matches at Silent Sam's, Max prepares for combat!
Magister Maxwell "Max" Tennyson, or Grandpa Max as his grandchildren call him, is the paternal grandfather of Ben and Gwen. He is a slightly overweight man in his late 50's to early 60's, with a keen sense for adventure and a strange taste in exotic food. During the original series, Max takes the kids on a summer road trip across the United States. Max travels in a motor home nicknamed the Rust Bucket, which he has modified with advanced technology.
Max was a semi-retired legendary Magister rank Plumber and is the mentor of Ben, Gwen, Kevin, and the Plumbers' Helpers. Max is widely considered the greatest Plumber in the Milky Way. As of Omniverse, Max quit retirement and joined the Plumbers again, and is currently Magister of Earth.
Personality
An easy-going, kind, and normally jovial man, Max Tennyson often comes across as pleasantly absent-minded at times, but is actually quite perceptive. For instance, he knew early on in Ben's adventures who was most likely pursuing him, as he was aware of Vilgax's history having fought the alien tyrant many times before.
Max is a very brave man, having dedicated his life to preserve peace on Earth between humans and extraterrestrial life. His bravery has resulted in him being injured, having his DNA spliced, nearly killed in several dozen ways, and more. His prioritization of others' safety above his own even when bereft of a weapon shows his selfless nature at its finest.
Ever the consummate strategist, Max is very intelligent, being able to select the correct weapon to battle Zs'Skayr based on minimal information given to him by Ben, choosing a light-based weapon to bring down the rogue Ectonurite.
Though well-meaning, Max is not without a stern side, having struggled to guide Ben during the first few months of his grandson's possession of the Omnitrix. When pushed, Max can be strict, harsh, but not unreasonably so, not being afraid to call people out on their selfishness and mistakes when necessary.
Max has a weird appetite, which comes from his travels both on the Earth and beyond.
Powers and Abilities
Although Max doesn't have any super powers, he is very skilled in combat and can take on anyone who does have them as he is quite athletic for someone of his age. As a retired Plumber, he has access to a variety of various Plumber tools and weaponry, which he uses skillfully. Aside from that, his experience from his Plumber days made him knowledgeable on various species of aliens. He is also able to strategize well and is skilled in inventing new machines. He is telepathically connected to his lover, Verdona.
Before joining the Plumbers, Max was a United States Air Force pilot, with dreams of joining NASA and going to the moon. He was an expert at flying an F-104 Starfighter and was able to shoot down an alien spacecraft.
Weaknesses
Despite being highly trained, Max is far from the prime athletic specimen he was during his days as a Plumber. He is a senior citizen, and has not managed to keep in shape, though he does still possess an incredible tactical mind to compensate for his less than stellar physical conditioning.
Regular Appearances
In the Original Series, Max wore a white shirt, covered by a red buttoned-up Hawaiian shirt with a floral design. He had grey hair and blue pants, as well as brown shoes.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Max's appearance did not change except for his blue pants being changed to brown, he had more wrinkles, a slightly darker shirt, and whiter hair. He wore black shoes.
In Omniverse, Max's appearance has not changed that much except for his brown pants, which are now white. He has whiter hair, more wrinkles, and his eyes have been changed to little black dashes. His white shirt that he wore under his red button up shirt has changed to black. Also, his shoes are now grey at the top and black at the bottom.
Occasional Appearances
In the original series, his pajamas were blue and had yellow lightning streaks.
While in the hospital in The Alliance, he wore a light blue hospital gown, with a cast around his left leg, bandages around his head and a band-aid on his left cheek.
In Dr. Animo and the Mutant Ray, he wore an orange life jacket.
As a Lepidopterran hybrid in the same episode, he had a maggot-like body with green skin and six legs. He had four eye stalks with orange eyes and grey hair.
In Back with a Vengeance, he wore a yellow raincoat while touring Niagara Falls on a ship.
In A Change of Face, he wore a pilgrim outfit.
In Merry Christmas, while cursed as Santa Claus, he wore a red and white robe, a red hat and green gloves.
In Game Over, while inside Sumo Slammers Smackdown, he wore grey armor which covered his left pectoral and lower body. He had brown hair on top and on the sides of his head, along with a brown beard.
In Monster Weather, he wore blue jeans, a brown headband, a brown vest and brown sandals along with his red Hawaiian shirt.
In Under Wraps, he briefly wore a blue bath robe.
In Under Wraps, The Return and Be Afraid of the Dark, he wore a hazmat suit.
As Ultra Grandpa in Perfect Day, he had a stereotypical superhero costume. He wore frameless blue goggles, a cyan shirt and white pants. He also donned a white cape like Ultra Ben.
In Divided We Stand, in addition to his red Hawaiian shirt, he wore brown shorts and brown strap sandals.
In Don't Drink the Water, Max briefly wore a pair of glasses.
After being turned into a 10-year-old in Don't Drink the Water, Max's hair was similar to a crew cut, and rather than fat, he looked skinny and athletic. He initially wore his own clothes, then switched to Ben's clothes.
In Big Fat Alien Wedding, during the wedding ceremony, he wore a black tuxedo.
In Ben 10 vs. the Negative 10: Part 2, he wore a grey exo-suit with blue markings on its visor.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, he sometimes wore a short-sleeved white T-shirt with light brown pants and a green pouch with a sling that hangs on his shoulder.
In a flashback in Ben 10 Returns: Part 2, Max wore his regular shirt as well as dark blue shorts, white socks and brown shoes.
In Max Out, he wore a light brown long coat and a brown hat with a horizontal black stripe, over his regular outfit.
While under the identity of the Wrench, he wore a black T-shirt and light brown pants under a brown robe.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, he occasionally wore a Plumber suit.
In Alien Swarm, Max wore a blue Hawaiian shirt instead of a red one. He wore a brown jacket over this outfit near the end of the movie. In a video recording, he wore a bluish grey vest over a long-sleeved white shirt, as well as blue pants.
As seen in a flashback in Moonstruck, Teen Max had short brown hair. He wore a brown jacket over a red shirt as well as light brown pants. He briefly wore his Air Force uniform.
In a flashback in Of Predators and Prey: Part 2, Max's fishing outfit consisted of a brownish grey hat with a horizontal grey line, as well as baggy brownish grey pants held up by black straps.
In a flashback in Blukic and Driba Go to Area 51, as a young adult, Max had black hair and was scrawny. He wore the same Hawaiian shirt he wears in the present.
In Something Zombozo This Way Comes, as a Zombie Clown, Max had white makeup, red lipstick, a red nose and different hair.

Antakara in Sanskrit means the sun . This painting a portrait of the son of the morning KARNA the duke into battle Kurusetra.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Karna was the son of Surya ( sun god in Hindi mythology ) and Kunti. He was born to Kunti before her marriage with Pandu. Karna was the closest friend of Duryodhana and fought on his behalf against the Pandavas (his brothers) in the famous Kurukshetra war. Karna fought against misfortune throughout his life and kept his word under all circumstances. It is believed that Karna founded the city of Karnal, in present Haryana. Karna is one of the most famous personalities in Hinduism based on the merits they earned by giving charity. He is often quoted for his sacrifice, courage, charity, valour, and selflessness (wikipedia)
He was a man with a phenomenal sense of integrity and generosity but all this was lost. He died in the battle in a bad way.
Existence is not making a judgment about who is good or bad. It is only social situations that try to judge people as good and bad. It is only individual human beings who try to judge you as good and bad. Existence never judges because it is not written anywhere that one thing is good and some other thing is bad. It is just that if you do the right things, the right results happen to you. If you don’t do the right things, the right things do not happen to you. I think that’s perfectly fair. All the Karna fans think it is unfair that he should have been put through so much. I think it’s perfectly fair. Society may not be fair, but the existence is perfectly fair – unless you do the right things, the right things will not happen to you. If existence was not like this, there would be no value for doing the right things or for human intelligence. Nothing that we value in our life would be valuable if you could do wrong things and still the right things happened to you. Life doesn’t work like that. (iSHA- Karna - Hero or Villain ? )

Karna, the heroic villain of Mahabharata
Containing hundreds of characters, lots of events, so many episodes and having a time span of thousands of years Mahabharata, an Indian epic, is the biggest epic in the world. In count of numbers of verses it is seven times bigger than Illiad and Odyssey. By the grace of Indra (Devraj, King of gods) and with his divinely powerful bow Gandib, the hero of Mahabharata is none other than Arjuna. As literature says, when there is a hero there must be a villain. Literally, villain means the main negative character in a play, story, novel etc. who is morally not sound and responsible for causing the trouble or harm for others, particularly the hero or heroine. In that sense there are more villains in Mahabharata viz. Duryodohana, Duswashan, Shakuni (maternal uncle of Duryodhana) etc. but surpassingly all of them represent Karna, the only person that though known as a villain, had heroic characters.
In a war Karna challenged Arjuna but Arjuna declined to fight him on the ground that fight occurs between kings but Karna was none of a royal dynasty. Instantly Duryodhana declared Karna as king of Anga (presently Bhagalpur and Munger district in the state of Bihar in India). Since then, as an outcome of Arjuna’s refusal to fight, Kama nourished a strong hatred for Pandav brothers i.e. five Pandavs.
In war of Kurukshethra, among other heroes in both Pandava and Kaurav side, Karna was unparallel and almost equal to Arjuna. He was a child of Kunti (mother of five Pandavs) by Surya (the sun) before her marriage. So, according to traditional belief Karna is an illegitimate child but in the other way round, he is the eldest of Pandava brothers though just after birth Kunti left him and he was adopted by another couple named Adhirath and Radha. Gradually he was known as a son of Adhiratha, a charioteer. He always made a relentless effort to know his parentage and from where he came. At one stage, before the war of Kurukshetra, when he came to know from Sri Krishna that he was a son of Surya and Kunti, he had a breakdown within himself but his hatred towards the Pandavs and as a mark of loyalty to Duryodhana he thought that his hatred was justified. He is one of the central characters of Mahabharata, a close friend of Duryodhana and a great warrior who was believed to have the power of defeating Arjuna in a war but though he was intelligent he was very unfortunate and unscrupulous.
Since birth Karna had an undecaying bangle and amulet which would protect him from any danger especially in a war. As a mother Kunti knew it very well. Though Karna was her eldest son, she had all the sympathy and affection for her other five sons. Knowing it fully well that so long the amulet and bangle were with him, Karna would be invincible and her sons, i.e. the Pandavas would be defeated in the war. Moreover, she came to know from Sri Krisha that Karna alone was sufficient to destroy the Pandavs. With such an apprehension in mind and with a view to ensure victory of the Pandavas in the imminent war, she went to Karna who was then offering prayers to the evening sun on the bank of holy river, the Ganges (Jahnabi, the other name). We can remember that famous poem Karna Kunti Sangbad by Rabindranath Tagore. Karna could not recognise her mother because he was abandoned by Kunti just after birth. Introducing herself, Kunti requested Karna to leave the Kaurava side and join the Pandavas. Kunti’s purpose of coming became clear to Karna but frustrating her and out of deep sense of gratitude to Duryodhana, Karna declined to be a renegade. Being afraid and thinking of the inevitable result of the war, Kunti prayed for the undecaying amulet and bangle to Karna. Karna could clearly understand the consequences of leaving that amulet and bangle but as it was his nature not to refuse anyone, at that solemn moment of evening prayer, he did not refuse and risking his own life he gave away that amulet and bangle to Kunti. Such was the generosity of Karna. What a great sacrifice at the cost of his life! With this greatness of mind and broadness of heart Karna is very much like a hero but even after reaching such an altitude of greatness, Karna had villain like activities in his life.
When Draupadi was disrobed in the open court in front of hundreds of members of royal family, Karna remained a passive onlooker and enjoyed the humiliation without any protest which, however, tainted his greatness.
Abhimanyu (son of Arjuna) was a boy of only 18 but he was an expert warrior. Karna considered him as moving death. Even Dronacharya (arms teacher of Pandav and Kaurav brothers) thought him as the incarnation of Rudra, the god of war. Karna apprehended that unless killed, Abhimanyu would destroy all of them. He consulted with Dronacharya and others. One day during the war of Kurukshetra, seven very senior warriors of the Kaurav side, under the leadership of Karna, killed Abhimanyu which was against all acknowledged laws and rules of the war. Killing Abhimanyu illegally in war was the most remarkable act of Karna as a villain. He committed mistakes one after another only out of his extreme sense of loyalty to Duryodhana and turned himself into a villain though he had all the qualities of a hero.
Earlier in life, hiding his identity as Kshatriya, Karna learnt the techniques of using arms and the art of warfare from his arms teacher (astraguru) but when his real identity became clear his teacher commented — “during war you will forget all the big and powerful arms which I have taught you” and it happened in the war of Kurukshetra. Once, out of anger, Karna bate a calf of a Brahmin to death simply for the reason that the calf had eaten up flowers of his garden. That Brahmin cursed—“wheels of your chariot would be grabbed in the soil during the time of war”. That also happened most pathetically.
We see that the most sentimental scene of the war of Kuruskhetra (and also of Mahabharata) where Kkarna downfaced, without amulet and bangle, face to face with Arjuna, in futile efforts to pull out the wheels of his chariot from the eternal grab of soil and requesting, “Arjuna, you are a pious man. Please allow me time to pull out the wheels of my chariot”. In reply, Arjuna is saying, “Where was your sense of religion when you killed boy Abhimanyu in an unlawful battle?” And those were the last words of Karna, the great but mean, mighty but miserable and the most complex and unfortunate character in Mahabharata.

To all my Flickr friends, please stay safe and sane during these troubling times... I am fortunate enough to be able to socially distance myself and take a few weeks from work in order to limit risk of exposure. There are health care professionals and many other people working around the clock to keep all of us safe and to try and find a solution to this current pandemic. Please keep those selfless individuals in your thoughts and prayers...
A new found, found object for my Kindness of strangers set
There is something gently wonderful about the selfless act of placing dropped and lost items out of harm's way, in the hope that the owner will return and find them.
Lifeboat coxswain William Johnson and his crew lost their lives attempting a brave rescue of fellow mariners in peril off the Fylde coast in 1886.
Their heroic and selfless act is commemorated by this impressive memorial on the seafront at St. Annes.
NOTES :
I deliberately photographed the memorial from a highly dramatic angle to try to draw out more of its power. The sudden arrival of the young gull transformed the composition from frozen monument to living moment.

This is the "Oblation". A symbolic icon found at the entrance to the University of The Philippines symbolizing man's selflessness in offering one's self to country, and created by Filipino artist Gulliermo E. Tolentino. I took a shot of it at sundown which now shows man showing gratitude to the sun for giving life to his surroundings.
Part of the Mount Isa Rodeo since inception and a charter member of Mount Isa South Rotary Club in 1967, Ray Donaldson's passion and selfless service saw him serve as Rodeo Chairman from 1977 until his death in 1984. His stewardship of the Isa Rodeo resulted in major upgrades to facilities at Kalkadoon Park and Carrandotta and he personally sought new sponsors and greatly nurtured existing relationships in order to constantly grow the event. Heavily supported by wife Elaine, Ray's massive commitment meant the Donaldson children thought it perfectly normal to spend every weekend either at Carrandotta Station or playing at Kalkadoon Park where their parents became 'worker bees'. Ray's most lasting legacy was in establishing Bell & Moir Toyota's relationship with the iconic event. More than 50 years later, Ray's company remains a major supporter of the Isa Rodeo and Bell & Moir Toyota's donation of vehicles for the annual art union has raised millions for the local community. Ray's service saw him named a Paul Harris Fellow as was Bell & Moir Toyota, several times over.

GAH!!
What was that??
Ladies and gentlemen, that was the famous Apatchi no Otakebi (アパッチのおたけび or アパッチの雄叫び), or Apache War Cry of Geronimo!
Oh, maybe it could be saved for his match rather than scaring us all half to death.
Hi Geronimo!
I don't think he can see us.
Yep, serious hair problem there.
Now, sit back for the... ORIGIN STORY OF GERONIMO!
Oh, no...
This is gonna be forever.
Geronimo is a young Native American of the Cherokee tribe who was born a regular human. He stands 180cm (5'11”) and weighs 80kg (176lbs). He hails from Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma, and is a Chojin Kyodo of 830,000 Power.
Wait, if he's from the Cherokee tribe, why's he doing an 'Apache' war cry?
Shh! The origin is going to go on long enough as it is!
Well, I was just wondering! Don't the Cherokee have their own war cries?
As a boy his life was saved by a Chojin (later revealed to be the God of the Superman Road) and from then on he yearned to become a Chojin.
Wait, what?
Shh!!
Well, I don't know where the Superman Road is or who their 'god' is!
It doesn't matter!
Because of this he hides the fact that he is human and takes part in the battle against the Devil Knights. During the Five Story Ring battles, he shows that his Chojin Spirit (超人魂) exceeds that of a Chojin by defeating Sunshine in a tremendous victory.
Afterwards he passes the trial of the Superman Road (スーパーマンロード) and becomes a true chojin, later participating in the Universal Chojin Tag Tournament and the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne.
His eyes are partially hidden behind his forelock and he has brown skin. He is usually seen carrying a tomahawk and a hunting knife with him, but he hardly ever uses them. Geronimo typically wears his hair loose, where it flows to his mid-back, and a headband keeps it mostly in place, which covers his eyes. He tends to wear shorts, with fur-covered boots and arm-covers.
Geronimo is a young and optimistic chojin, who retains close ties to his human heritage. He is sometimes quick to anger, including resorting to acts of violence when unprovoked, especially when he first became a chojin (and struggled to adjust to his new nature). Usually, he retains a strong sense of justice and fights on behalf of those that are most vulnerable. He is dedicated to the path of righteousness, and idolizes older chojin such a Terryman. He is very expressive and emotional, but friendly to all he meets.
He and Terryman have a teacher/student relation, with Terryman acting as a mentor figure. Terryman was the one that saw the potential that was within him, even if he was a mere human. He travels back to Geronimo's village to ask for help, and after Geronimo became a chojin, they form a Tag team to enter the new tournament.
Geronimo was born a regular human. Once his father died, it left him and his sister - Amy - both orphans, and he was adopted by Chief Cheyenne. When he is ten, and Amy is nine, they ask the Chief to relay the story of their father, in which they are told he was a village hero who was executed; the execution occurs unjustly, as he was blamed for a fight among the white populace, when he was actually trying to mediate and stop the conflict.
This inspires Geronimo to be a good man, like his father, and he declares that he will make friends with all people but is misunderstood as being dangerous and antagonistic through a series of mishaps.
Later, Geronimo takes his sister into town. The local boys see them and push a boulder down the hill toward them. At the last second, a chojin steps forward to save them. He headbutts the boulder, breaking it into many pieces and saves their lives; this selfless action inspires Geronimo to want to become a chojin.
How is that a selfless action? The chojin who helped them was in no danger from the boulder.
Would you be quiet!?
He proceeds to train under the Chief for five years, until a group of men come to attack his village. He tries to mediate and peacefully stop them, but is beaten unconscious, at which point the police arrive and tensions escalate as the men and police fight.
Geronimo awakens and sees that the village children are preparing to roll a boulder down to the warring groups, which would kill the leaders of both groups, and jumps in front of the boulder to save them, even at the risk of his own life. The same chojin from before comes to protect him, once more shattering the boulder, and Geronimo's selfless actions remind the police and men about what is important in life, as they come to a truce.
The men carry Geronimo back to Chief Cheyenne, apologize for their actions, and leave. Geronimo is thus saved.
In the Golden Mask Arc, a mysterious force (General Devil) has been draining the power of all the Justice Chojin, which forces the Silver Mask to place them inside life-containment bubbles. Geronimo is first seen breaking out of his bubble.
After Kinnikuman’s fight with Sneagator, Geronimo breaks out of his bubble - fully healed - with his tomahawk. He refuses to let the other speak badly about Kinnikuman, which inspires Wolfman to break free of his bubble in turn.
Wolfman sacrifices his life-force so Kinnikuman can live again. Wolfman asks Geronimo to cut off his top-knot, as a symbol of his friendship for Kinnikuman, because Geronimo was the only one that was willing to defend Kinnikuman and speak in his defence. Geronimo obliges him and cries in response to his death. Warsman is later knocked unconscious.
It is Geronimo who realizes Warsman is still alive, and that they can revive him by shocking his heart. A well opens up that leads to inside Warsman's body, but only five people may enter, and so Geronimo bravely leads the way inside. He goes with Terry, Robin,**** Brocken Jr.***** and Kinnikuman into Warsman’s body. A five-tier ring appears, with each ring holding a different opponent.
Geronimo fends off The Ninja on the fourth floor, while Kinnikuman climbs the spine to reach the top ring. The Ninja switches places with Sunshine,***** forcing Geronimo to compete against him. At one point, he skewers the mat with his tomahawks so that Terry - in the ring below - could grab a hold of something during Asuraman’s****** Asura Buster.
In his fight with Sunshine, he started off hitting Sunshine with a fury of Tomahawk Chops. Geronimo lands a Flying Boy Press, but Sunshine counters by bending his legs. Sunshine uses his Sand Hell techniques on Geronimo, and Geronimo uses a Tomahawk Tornado to sweep away the sand.
After being pressed into the mat by Sunshine, Geronimo attempts another Tomahawk Chop, but the damage done to Sunshine is undone by his regeneration abilities. The sweat from Geronimo is also absorbed into Sunshine and makes his sand weigh even heavier, as he crushes Geronimo from above.
Sunshine prepares for a Back-Drop, and Geronimo breaks his hip attempting to counter with a Flying Maier. Geronimo tries a Guillotine Drop, but Sunshine stops him with a Giant Swing, and Geronimo manages to stop Sunshine with a headbutt, but sustains great damage in the process. Geronimo believes he has won when he chops Sunshine in half, but instead he found himself trapped inside Sunshine.
After forcing his way out of Sunshine's body, Sunshine begins to use his most brutal Sand Hell techniques. He uses a Canadian Back-Breaker, while Geronimo counters with a Reverse Suplex, and Sunshine attempts a Mexican Stretch. Geronimo uses a Toe-Kick to shatter Sunshine's body into multiple pieces, and Sunshine uses a Hell's Pyramid. Being severely injured - after having his gut stabbed by Sunshine’s Hell’s Pyramid technique - causes Terryman to realize that Geronimo is human.
Geronimo uses a Brain Buster, despite the pyramid piercing his heart. Sunshine rebuilds himself with his Hell Arc de Triumphe. Geronimo smashes Sunshine again, but Sunshine uses a sun-styled key to enter his sun-mark upon his chest, and this regenerates him. Geronimo keeps fighting and eventually grabs Sunshine's chest, where he removes the key that controls the Sand Hell techniques. As the key hits the canvas, Sunshine grabs his head and screams, causing Geronimo to realize that Sunshine’s weakness is loud noises. He used his trademark Apache War Cry.
This reduces Sunshine to dust, but - before Geronimo can finish - his heart stops. He remembers the bravery of the chojin who saved him and his sister, and he then sticks his hand into his chest and massages his heart. He finishes off Sunshine with the Apache War Cry. After this, General Devil made his appearance.
Geronimo tries to attack him, but is thrown out of the ring and falls five stories, due to a Double Arm Spin and a Hell's Guillotine. After General Devil and Ashuraman make their escape, the Five Story Ring begins to collapse, but Geronimo stands beneath it and holds it upright so that the others can escape. Warsman's tears allow him to be washed out of his body, along with the others, and this saves Geronimo's life. He is close to death, and so the others attempt to sacrifice a piece of their chojin power for him.
Due to being human, Geronimo's body will not accept their power. He dies. Near the end of the match, Geronimo’s spirit shows up and helps hold the ring upright. After the match reaches its completion, Geronimo is revived by the Perfect Mask and is seen alongside Wolfman.
In the Dream Tag Tournament, Geronimo is introduced in a comatose state. He is in a wheelchair, when Terryman announces that he will team with Geronimo. It is revealed that his soul may be 'dead', but his body is alive, and Terryman seeks to resurrect his soul and bring him back to full consciousness in time for the tournament. Geronimo is taken back to his village, where - even in his unconscious state - he manages to defend Terryman from an attack by his people. Chief Cheyenne reveals that Geronimo cannot be revived as a human, but could be revived as a Justice Chojin.
They summon forth the chojin God, while bringing forth the Superhuman Road. Geronimo travels along the road and encounters three different gateways; he breaks through the first with quick thinking and bravery, as he uses his body to allow two children to cross a ravine, and he passes the second by self-sacrifice to save others from a falling boulder. In the last, he is able to distinguish between good and evil, as he kills the image of Chief Cheyenne that threatens the lives of children. Geronimo is thus made a chojin.
Geronimo joins Terryman to form the New Machineguns.
He struggles to control his new power, such as accidentally hitting a child. After navigating a maze to be allocated their placement within the tournament, they are matched against Stray Akuma Chojin Combo. Like the other Justice Chojins, Geronimo’s Friendship Power was stolen by Asuraman and Sunshine. When they go to shake hands with their opponents, they play dirty and strike them with punches, instead.
Geronimo initially keeps to the sides, but helps Terryman with a combo move by jumping on his bridge. He is then tagged in to fight against Sunshine. He attacks with a Back-Drop.
Sunshine turns his body into sand and counters with a kick from below, and he then switches out with Terryman. Terryman then climbs on Geronimo's shoulders, so that they can match Asuraman with four arms, and engage with a Tornado Hell Return. During this attack, the dolls of Terryman and Geronimo are scattered on the floor and shattered, which foretells their eventual loss. The match continues in earnest, with both teams exchanging various blows. Geronimo listens to Terryman and makes several counters.
Soon Geronimo and Terryman are greatly injured in a Hell's Combination.
Sunshine attempts a Hell's Pyramid attack, but Geronimo - remembering his key part - tries to remove the key part from his chest to incapacitate him. The key part transforms into a giant pair of rollers, which suck Geronimo's right arm inside and he becomes victim to Sunshine's Cursed Roller. Listening to Terryman, Geronimo sacrifices his right arm in order that he may survive. They then switch places. When Geronimo sees how well Kinnikuman and Terryman work together, even when not teammates, he feels guilty.
Geronimo is then taken into an Asura Buster, and Asuraman holds him hostage, promising to release him only when Terryman lets go of Sunshine. Terryman sacrifices his stars on his arms, as he resigns from the match, but Asuraman still performs his Improved Asura Buster, and this impales Geronimo in his head. When Kinnikuman Great arrives to steal back the box and figures, he and Geronimo are thrown from the ring and forced to hold on for their lives. Geronimo begs Great to let go of him, so that he can save Terryman, and Great lets go to do as he wishes. Kinnikuman catches him and saves his life.
Geronimo would later help Dr. Bombay repair Kinnikuman's severed arm.
In the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne, when Kinnikuman requires five hand-prints to open a door, Geronimo appears.
After the Dream Tag Tournament, Geronimo went away alone and won the Hawaiian Championship Belt from Jesse Maivia.******* He then made his way to Osaka to compete in the final round of the Survivor Match. On his way, he runs into an injured Warsman (who had been severely injured by Mammothman).******** He takes Warsman to a hospital and agrees to take his place in the finals as a pinch-hitter.
When the group is trapped in a room with a spiked ceiling descending upon them, between the final matches of the final round, Geronimo - and others - cut their hands to offer blood to Kinnikuman. This fails to work, but allows Asuraman to sacrifice himself using Geronimo's knives.
Geronimo is then matched against The Omegaman in Meat's place.
The match takes place on a stone-ring, complete with a moat around the ring. Geronimo starts with a drop-kick to The Omegeman's face, followed by slamming him to the mat, and he attempts then to use an Elbow Drop. Omegaman got Geronimo in his deadly Omega Catastrophe Drop technique. It is shown that - seconds before Geronimo hit the ground - a shadowy figure blew the ashes of Kinniku Ataru’s Muscle Prophecy page into the ring, causing Ataru’s spirit to catch Geronimo’s head and act as a cushion.
As the fight continues, Geronimo realises that the figure was Neptuneman. Neptuneman brings the ashes back to him, while Geronimo tackles Omegaman into the moat. Omegaman unleashes a series of attacks and rises from the water with Geronimo's totem poll, making others believe that he is dead. Neptuneman throws seeds into the moat, which Geronimo uses to grow a tree to escape the moat.
Omegaman uses Omega Blood-Spray Fangs. Geronimo then drains all of his strength performing his Apache War Cry and Wood Cutter Hand techniques, which opens him up to another Omega Catastrophe Drop. Neptuneman (posing as The Samurai) tries to use Ataru’s ashes again, but Geronimo kicks them away. He says that he wishes to defeat the technique himself, but in actuality he was worried that Neptuneman would be noticed by the chojin Enma and be hunted down for the rest of his life.
Because of this sacrifice, Geronimo is defeated.
After the match, Super Phoenix burns Geronimo’s Muscle Prophecy page, causing him to disappear like Ataru Kinniku. During Kinnikuman's fight with Super Phoenix, when it looked like Super Phoenix would win and take the throne, the souls of Geronimo, Robin Mask, Neptuneman,********* and Ataru (all of whom had their pages burned) help Kinnikuman regain his stolen Kajiba no Kuso Djikara and win the fight. The four of them were later revived by Kinnikuman's Face Flash.
In the Perfect Origin Arc, Geronimo first appears on a Chojin Fan Appreciation Day.
The event comes after a historic peace-treaty is signed between Perfect, Justice, and Devil Chojin. During the event, the "real" Perfect Chojin arrive and Geronimo ushers the guests to safety. Strong the Budo strikes Geronimo when he objects to their arrival, and destroys the peace treaty as a true representative of the Perfect Chojin. Geronimo leaps into the ring to attack Strong the Budo, but his movements are perceived as if in slow motion by the significantly stronger Perfect Chojin.
Strong the Budo blocks Geronimo's blow, before punching him in the mouth to stop his Apache War Cry. He then throws him in the air, where he is attacked by Dalmatiman, Turboman, and Crushman. When Terryman attempts to intervene, Geronimo begs him to not fight on behalf of the other chojin, and Geronimo watches the match - heavily bandaged - from the corner of the ring.
When the Devil Chojin proceed to enter the first round of the tournament matches against the Perfect Chojin, Geronimo watches from the event arena with Terryman. The New Large Numbers arrive after the first round ceases, and attack Peek-a-Boo and Terryman, which leads Geronimo to attack them in defence of his companions. He uses an Apache War Cry, which Jak Chi stops with a Boiling Shot. Marvellous follows with a Rising Dragon, before Kinnikuman stops them from attacking Geronimo further.
Geronimo is taken to the hospital with Peek-a-Boo, where he spends the rest of the arc.
In an unnamed arc, Terryman, Prisman and Geronimo confront the Choushin at the Great Sphinx of Giza. Prisman's opponent is Bicorn, the God of Wrath. Bicorn delivers a lecture on the Great Sphinx of Giza and its true reason why its nose got shattered. Arrogant Chojin wanted to free themselves from the shackles of the Gods. Prisman tries a Rainbow Shower on Bicorn, but it bounces off because of his ozone layer-like protection. After using a failed Rainbow Shower against Bicorn, Prisman is carved up by Bicorn's Bicorn Horn Slicer and smashed into pieces by Bicorn's Wrathful Bicorn Drop. Both Terryman and Geronimo call out Prisman's name out of concern.
Surprisingly, Bicorn's finisher only breaks off Prisman's flab. Prisman takes advantage of this and kicks a bunch of Canvas Shuriken at Bicorn, who dodges all of that and slams down hard on Prisman's arm. Irritated, Bicorn states that Prisman's parlor tricks will not work. Prisman boasts that his body will not be destroyed that easily. Bicorn realizes that Prisman wanted Bicorn to break his body and tells Prisman that Prisman will realize his folly as a foolish Chojin. Bicorn wraps his horns around Prisman with a Blood Squeeze Horn.
Terryman orders Prisman to flee, but Prisman's 52,000,000 Chojin Kyodo isn't enough. As it turns out, Bicorn has a 99,990,000 Chojin Kyodo. In order to gain a physical form, all Choshin have to give up 10,000 Power, which is a mere pittance to them. No more Chojin could last long enough against a Choshin, anyways. Geronimo encourages Prisman, but Prisman is insulted and calls Geronimo a fake Chojin. Prisman follows Geronimo's advice and slips out, countering with a Red Rain of Berlin. Geronimo points that out, and Prisman notes that Brocken Jr. is also a "Chojin Cheat". However, those guys are not to be underestimated.
Bicorn, now full of wrath, orders Prisman to be silent and says that the Choshin are to wipe out the inferior Chojin race once and for all. Not one to mince words, Bicorn goes back to killing Prisman. Bicorn will discipline Prisman with an overwhelming show of force and stomp him into a million pieces. As he's stomped by Bicorn, Prisman retorts that it won't be that easy and counters with a Dragon Leg Screw grapple. Bicorn dodges and counters with a Flying Heel Kick. In a last ditch effort, Prisman fires off a Rainbow Shower, injuring Bicorn because he created a crack in Bicorn's Capillaria Ray protection. Prisman is surprised that worked at all.
Telling Prisman that his trick won't work if used multiple times, Bicorn kicks Prisman in the gut and pulls off a Hijack Horn Breaker. Struggling to get up, Prisman boasts that his Rainbow Shower worked on Bicorn to Geronimo and Terryman. Knowing that tactic worked, Prisman spams the Rainbow Shower, much to Bicorn's chagrin. Bicorn pulls off a Holy Tombstone Drop on Prisman, but Prisman continues his Rainbow Shower spam.
Even if Prisman could affect Bicorn with the Rainbow Shower, Bicorn still has the upper hand. Bicorn unleashes a beatdown on Prisman, ending with a Bicorn Trigger Gimlet. Bicorn has finally stomped Prisman out once and for all. During his supposed victory speech, Bicorn gets interrupted by Prisman impaling him through his chest. Prisman boasts that the Gods aren't as invulnerable as they would claim. Bicorn throws Prisman aside and tells Prisman to never underestimate the Gods. Just as Bicorn is about to pull off another Tombstone Trigger Gimlet, Prisman catches him and reverses it with a Prism Spiegel Crash.
The Prism Spiegel Crash barely affected Bicorn, but Bicorn fell for Prisman's trick. The real reason for the finishing hold is so that Prisman could get behind Bicorn and unleash a point-blank Rainbow Shower at Bicorn's exposed backside. Upon losing, Bicorn has a breakdown both metaphorically and literally as Bicorn can't believe that he lost to a "third-rate fool of a Chojin". The Choushin must wipe out the Chojin as they're too dangerous to live. Bicorn crumbles away to dust, giving Prisman the victory.
Due to his injuries from the fight, Prisman is about to pass away. To test his theory, Prisman blasts Geronimo with his Rainbow Shower, but Geronimo is unaffected, which means that Geronimo can handle the Capillaria Rays. Prisman reveals his secret on why he could use the Capillaria Rays: he's a Chojin made from a Capillaria piece that originally belonged to the God of Intelligence. The Capillaria piece is essentially is his heart. Before dying, he yanks it out and shoves it right into Geronimo's chest.
Geronimo is now the mortal chojin's ace in the hole in the war against the Choushin, but Geronimo is doubtful of his own worth and criticizes himself. Terryman refutes that and explains that Geronimo became a Chojin because Geronimo has the undying spirit of a Chojin inside of him. Geronimo has a flashback to the time he became a Chojin. He has a mission that only he can complete. As Prisman's powers flow through his body, Geronimo finally remembers his mission. With Terryman's help, he challenges the fallen Bicorn's teammates.
Techniques
Apache War Cry
An ancient Apache secret technique, Geronimo screams "U-Ra-Raーーー!!" (ウララーーー!!) at such a great volume it produces a powerful shock-wave that attacks the opponent. It is said to be powerful enough to break an entire mountain.
In the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne anime, it's name is changed to Wild War Cry (野生のおたけび, Yasei no Otakebi).
Apache Death Scream
A stronger version of the Apache War Cry. Used to destroy the Jikan chojin's "Legend" Destroying Bell.
Tomahawk Chop
Geronimo brings both hands together and strikes his opponent with a chop. The name "Tomahawk Chop" is also used to refer to Geronimo's basic chops. In the anime he uses one hand.
Tomahawk Tornado
Geronimo holds both arms up and spins around violently, creating a small whirlwind that attacks the opponent. In the anime he uses one arm.
Wood Cutter Hand
Used against The Omegaman. A Flying Chop powerful enough to chop down a tree.
Hell’s Tornado Return
A tag technique with Terryman. Geronimo jumps onto Terry's shoulders and they both hold all of their arms up to one side. They then throw their arms down to the other side, causing Asuraman's "Hell's Tornado" to turn around and attack him instead.
Sorrowful Rain of Friendship
A tag technique with Brocken Jr.. As Geronimo performs his Tomhawk Chop, Brocken performs the Red Rain of Berlin. Their hands come together and become englufed in a flame as they strike the opponent.

This marquee was the final tribute to my friend, Rob DeShazer, who tragically passed away before his time on October 9, 2018. Rob was a person beyond words, capable of fantastic acts of selflessness and giving. He loved music, he loved his community, he loved his family, and perhaps most of all, he loved his four-legged friends. From the moment I first became acquainted with him in the years after high school, I knew him to always be a musician of many talents, having played guitar, drums, and lead vocals in more than one band. When he moved to his adopted home town of DeKalb, IL (home of Northern Illinois University), he found new ways to give back to the community whenever he could, and even when he couldn't. The name of his last band was blaKeD (DeKalb spelled backwards). When he became owner of the restaurant/bar Tapa La Luna in downtown DeKalb, he organized food and toy drives each holiday season, a tradition his wife and restaurant carry on to this day. He never met a dog he didn't like, and when one would walk by his restaurant, he would often go outside to pet it. His love of animals was so deep that he rallied the community to donate old chairs for an animal shelter in a distant community nearly 3 hours away so their animals would no longer have to sit and sleep on cold concrete floors, and he even drove the furniture down there himself.
I'd like to think that this sums up his personality all in one image. The theater marquee represents his showmanship as a rock star. The DeKalb and NIU signs are for the community he loved so much. The corn is symbolic of his life as an Illinois boy. "Thanks for the Love" is a direct reference to everything he did for his community, and everything they did to give back. And perhaps most importantly but most subtly, the NIU Huskie Head logo represents his love of animals, especially dogs. This one's for you, Rob. I know you're surrounded by your beloved furry friends. As you were so fond of saying, "That Poo Poo." You give yourself away.

"Friendship"
This image is being submitted as part of the #Flickr21 Photo Challenge, celebrating Flickr's 21st anniversary on February 10, 2025. The theme for the 8th day of the 21 day photo challenge is "Friendship." For you, Rob. May your legacy live on long after us.
“Summer is a period of luxurious growth. To be in harmony with the atmosphere of summer, awaken early in the morning and reach to the sun for nourishment to flourish as the gardens do. Work, play, travel, be joyful, and grow into selfless service. The bounty of the outside world enters and enlivens us.”

James, the self-confessed heterosexual writer, could still throw form, regardless of his age or infirmities. He still had those moves, if only in his fantasies. But that's unfair, he still had those moves in my imaginings too.
Marcel, taking the photograph, laughed heartily and reminded him that it wasn't a lobster.
James just threw his hands in the air and attempted to outdo himself, caterwauling "Lobster, Silverfish, Human, Amoeba, Barnacles, sure they're all the same to me", as the consciousness floating above his head morphed continually, constantly changing into its selflessness.
How they laughed.
Nora laughed too. "Enough of that", she mockingly screamed "you can leave me out of your universal equality shite!".
Drink had been taken, as per usual.

The beauty of family bonds is evident in small acts of love. On a cold day in France, a young girl felt chilled, and her father gave her his jacket to keep her warm, even though he himself remained without one. This selfless gesture reflects the deep love parents have for their children.
A lovely place of calm serenity, to sit and remember the 17 brave men who lost their lives whilst selflessly attempting to save the lives of others on 15th November 1928.
