Why Can’t I Focus Like My German Shepherd Dogs? — IMRAN®
How’s your ability to focus? How good is your attention span? Mine? Let’s just say… K2, like Kennedy even more before him, makes me look like a neutron struck by a high-energy cosmic ray—neutral one moment, then suddenly fragmented, scattered, and thinking in directions I didn’t even know existed!
You’d think my energetic German Shepherd would be the poster pup for distraction, but when it matters—he locks in. Meanwhile, I’m over here letting my own mind derail me from the important stuff. Like, say, chasing my tax refund instead of writing this post!
For example, when we’re on the vacant lot near my blessed home in a quiet cul-de-sac, and someone passes by heading toward the turnaround point in front of my home, K2 immediately stops whatever he’s doing. Not because he can see them doing anything near my home—our view is blocked by thick hedges—but because he knows they are not from “here” and are near our home.
He is confident they’ll not dare go into the home so he doesn’t go to the sidewalk to look and be certain. Instead he stands or sits still and keeps his gaze fixed on the sliver of road just beyond the hedge’s edge. That’s his window of focus - “Did they turn and go back?”.
He waits—calm, alert, focused—until they pass again on their way back to their own homes. Then he releases his concentration and is ready for me to toss another coconut in the bay for him to swim out to and retrieve.
That’s the kind of focus I need to develop. The kind that doesn’t… oh, look,…. a squirrel! ️

At 13, Megan was diagnosed with a rare form of fast growing stage 3 brain cancer (glialneuronal). After 2 unsuccessful surgeries, we refused conventional treatment (chemo and radiation). After a couple of years of detoxing and healthy eating, she healed herself.

One of the Babson Bolders
'Eccentric millionaire Roger Babson had an unusual hobby that mortified his family: During the Great Depression, he hired unemployed stonecutters to carve inspirational mottoes into boulders in Dogtown, a ghost town between Gloucester and Rockport, Mass.
Babson (July 6, 1875–March 5, 1967) didn’t care what his family thought. Supervising the work allowed him to revert to his boyhood pleasure of driving cows through Dogtown Common.
“My family says that I am defacing the boulders and disgracing the family with these inscriptions, but the work gives me a lot of satisfaction, fresh air, exercise and sunshine,” he wrote in his autobiography, Actions and Reactions.
Today, hikers can walk through the maze of trails in Dogtown and read Babson’s boulders for little lessons in self-improvement. ‘Courage,’ ‘Help Mother’ and ‘Get a Job’ are but three of the 24 slogans chiseled into stone.'

Rayhaneh is aged 13, the oldest of 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Her dream is to be a doctor, but against her wishes her parents have removed her from school. They say it is sinful for a girl to sit in the same school as boys, or to have a male teacher. They also claim it is too expensive. Her uncle is a teacher, and has been urging her parents to allow her to resume school, but they are stubborn and have refused. Her mother gave birth to her at age 14.
Rayhaneh lives in the village of Sar Agha Sayed, which is arguably one of the most strikingly beautiful villages in all of Iran. It has about 3,000 inhabitants in summer, and half that in winter. The village has no high school, and education appears not to be highly valued by many parents and their children. Sanitation is poor, and health issues abound. Photo taken on September 06, 2015 in Sar Agha Sayed, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Iran.

Free Libraries arose as a result of the Public Libraries Act 1850. The aim of such libraries was to provide facilities for self-improvement through books and reading for all classes, not just those who were wealthy enough to afford their own private libraries and collections.
Opposition to the 1850 Act centred on fears that public access to certain publications would neither promote civil society nor act as the intended form of social control. Libraries would instead become sites of social agitation. This issue was linked to broader concerns that extending education to the lower orders of society would lead to libraries becoming working class "lecture halls" "which would give rise to an unhealthy agitation"......

I imported and tagged the photo with Photo Mechanic. I used Adobe Lightroom for adding camera, lens, and color profiles with basic adjustments. I spruced-up the image using the Topaz plug-ins: Denoise, Detail, Adjust, and Remask, then touched-up the image using Adobe Photoshop. A lowered opacity white layer was added to the background as was a blurred layer with a radial gradient mask.
