"I have a "carpe diem" mug and, truthfully, at six in the morning the words do not make me want to seize the day. They make me want to slap a dead poet."

Would you like to come closer?
Carpe Diem! The shirtless passenger asked if I cared to join his sea vessel on the way to Khuan Tung Ku but I was headed in a different direction…

Day 232/365:
Another one in the 'spotlight' series with my iPhone. I'm just taking opportunities as they 'pop up'.
My husband has very kindly fitted a pop up socket in my dressing table. It's impossible to reach the socket under the dressing table now. So when I was drying my hair today I thought ah ha, there's a photo here. I hope you're not getting fed up with this type of photo because it could go on for a while. All I can say is thank goodness for the iPhone!
This is one of a few shots taken in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park this week. I only had a four hour window to shoot the woodland in the mist and this is loosely what the blog is all about. If you'd like to have a look, please click below;

A hypnotic melody, say like, The El Indio Theme with music box included, sleep comes in seconds. At least it did for Bat.

They sure know how to seize the moment.

Sometimes,
life seems so hard and difficult..
The secret for overcoming your problems, is that
"you must always try to look up..."
Sometimes,
you should relax and enjoy the moments, because
each day of your life,
is a different, unique day...
"seize the day"...
Seize the day!
"The path of mossy ground nestled
In between maternal hedgerows,
That overgrew atop, dimming down
The brilliance of the day."
Mark R Slaughter

Hold them close
Petals of a rose
Thorns as well
Friends and foes
Have no fear
Seize the day
I don’t mind whatever happens
I don’t care whatever happens
Let them burn
Things of cotton
Admire the fire
Things undone
There’s applause
There’ll be encores
You’re sincere
That’s what we’re
Have no fear
Seize the day
I don’t mind whatever happens
I don’t care whatever happens

Not a great photo: colours are a bit bleached out. Note to self: post a new one soon!
Noctilucent clouds behind the Helsinki Cathedral at ten to one one July night. Cropped, no other editing.
In 1995 Finnish author Anja Kauranen (Snellman) wrote a novel called Pelon maantiede (Geography of Fear). This book dealt with (among other matters) a phenomenon I recognized - a tendency by many women, including myself, to see the geography of the cities they lived
in from the perspective of places to avoid, especially after dark, because they were potentially unsafe. Reading the book made me aware of this kind of thinking that I had internalized to the extent that I was not aware of it anymore. I had simply accepted certain limitations as to where I considered it to be safe to move about alone at night - especially but not limited to weekend nights.
Returning to my country of origin this summer I felt very safe although I was walking through the city center after midnight pulling a big and a small suitcase. So safe that it not only felt normal to walk through the city center alone with heavy luggage, but also to take out a camera and two lenses and exchange them.
It was a beautiful night with noctilucent clouds. I am very fortunate to be rooted in two very safe countries. I wish more people in general and women in particular could have this experience - to not only seize the day, but also to seize the night.

SEIZE THE DAY
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the doors and walls in my life, and the paths behind them.
Sometimes, it's difficult to decide which ones to open, and which ones to close. I have a hard time with those decisions, and I have a lot more responsibilities in my life than I used to.
I've been looking for answers to difficult questions lately.
I found this photo in the pictures I took on the Sunday photowalk. I had even forgotten taking it, and I hadn't even absorbed the message fully. I think I may have even taken this subconsciously... as a note to myself for later.
It was a picture I'm glad I took, and I'm glad I found this today.
My imagination would see a familiar object from the nebulous clouds above–such as a snail, a sailing ship, or even Felix the Cat. Oh, what fun!
Time has passed so quickly.

Pylon Lookout
Sydney Harbour Bridge
New South Wales
In our hectic lives, it is often very easy to lose track of time and forget some of our side goals. I am definitely guilty of that! I have neglected my photography for way too long, in pursuit of other more intangible goals.
Now more about this image. A sunset shot from the pylon lookout is only possible in the month of June, as the lookout closes at 5pm. On the day of the shoot, I wasn't very optimistic about the sky, it was clear blue. The forecast predicts cloud cover clearing in the afternoon. Thankfully, I decide to go against my gut instinct and was treated with an unexpected surprise!
Just as the sun was setting, it lit up the only band of clouds that was located behind the city. By now, everyone at the lookout was congregating at the ledge, blown away by the breathtaking view. Knowing that it is impossible to set up a tripod, I increased the ISO and opted for 3 exposures bracketing. I took dozens of shots hoping to get some of them to be sharp.
In post production, I manually blended the sky with cityscape foreground to achieve the necessary dynamic range. I sometimes forget how rewarding photography can really be!
2 exp shot, edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.

I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.
