Lately I've begun to take my game collecting a little more seriously. There are a LOT of old 16 & 32-Bit games that I have either lost from my collection, or I never had the opportunity of acquiring until now.

Today we decided to go around town to some if our favourite shops, and in doing so, I stumbled across some pretty decent finds.

Zero Tolerance (Sega Genesis); $14.95.

Virtual Racing (Sega Genesis); $9.95.

Ground Zero Texas (Sega CD); $9.95.

Daytona USA (Sega Saturn); $5.99.

Virtual Fighter 2 (Sega Saturn); $5.99.

Don't have the original cases for the disc games, but that's ok; I value the game itself more than the game and case. I don't plan on selling these anytime soon.

I guess I need a Saturn now...

An incredibly rare piece of Popful Mail history! This is a pop-up counter display from Japan to promote the PC-88 version of the game. First one that I've ever seen and I'm glad to add it to my Popful collection. #popfulmail #workingdesigns #sega #genesis #segacd #megadrive #megacd #16bit #retrogames #retrogaming #japan #snes #retrocollective #retrocollectiveus #retrojapan #japanesegaming #japanretrogaming #pcengine #pc88 #pc98

Magically, at the same thrift store where I got that awesome RAPMAN keyboard, I found a mint-condition Sega CD+G karaoke sampler disc. I think I paid a buck for it. Mine went missing a decade or so ago and finally I have it again! Anyone remember the CD+G format? Information Society (naturally) in particular did some pretty fun things with it. Basically, the song lyrics would appear at the bottom of the screen and simple graphics and crude pallete-swapping animations would accompany the music. Totally worth finding all my Sega CD cables and hooking it and its 19 power adaptors up.

This is a picture of a disassembled Sega CD Backup RAM cartridge. It was used to hold extra save data when the Sega CD's internal memory was full. It also could unlock a few special areas in Sega CD games. It was powered by a Sony CR2450 battery.

This is a detail of the Printed Circuit Board inside the cartridge. While I was cleaning the game I figured I'd snap a few pictures of it. These aren't super easy to come by, and this picture of the internals may be of interest to some. Like many games that have save features of this era, this cartridge relied on a battery to aid in storing information.

Signed/sealed copies of Lunar 1 & 2 for the Sega CD, as well as the hardcover manual for Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete.

Thrilled to finally have an original boxed copy of Night Trap...

Mixed lineage. The Sega Genesis came from my friend Shawn, while the SegaCD was a thrift store find (with another Model 1 Genesis attached!), and the PowerBase Converter came from The Video Game Exchange down in Colorado Springs. The odd cable jutting out the front is a stereo mixing cable running to a port on the back of the SegaCD. I have it pinned between the SegaCD body and the bolt plates holding the extension body onto the SegaCD.

Update: I replaced the PowerBase Converter with a regular Sega Master System, given that I added a Sega 32X to the setup.

The rotating glass display case filled with Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast and Saturn games rests behind the counter adjacent to used Saturns, Dreamcasts and the like. Paradise...

Just an update of an old entry. I've had the Sega Genesis and SegaCD for a while... but once I got the Saturn, I could definitely feel the last gap in my Sega First Party coverage. So I arranged a trade with my friend Mike for a boxed 32X for my collection. The price was a Sega Game Gear with power supply and Columns, and I was able to find the system for Mike recently.

However, this rendered the Power Base Converter I was using for Master System games... inconvenient to use.
