The 2009 is painful, isn't it? The elder picture is the very first one I took for my long defunct blog In Cold Blood close to ten years ago. I had been blogging for Rezzable when I was their PR - hey who remembers them! Greenies, Black Swan, all that? - before this but was eventually persuaded by friends to foist my untamed attempts at being unique on the greater public.

I've spent a lot of time reminiscing over it and cleaning out the worst of the cringe as as you tend to do when Flickr locks your uploads when it's a new year but I'm going to leave that one intact. I still love this Vampire coat from Amerie's and I found today that it's survived all of my purges to date, so when baked on mesh is a real thing you had better believe I'll be wearing it again.

I deliberately kept to the same general colour scheme and vampy theme for my 2019 outfit. Generally flat lighting and background to match the older one. Fangs eventually receded back behind the lips; believe me there was a very good reason they were out and proud for the first few years. That reason being to prove Tenshi Vielle wrong.* White hair and pale eyes have remained static over the 11 years I've been on Winter except for that one tantrum I threw about 7 years ago when I dyed my hair pink and shaved off my brows for a good six months.

Don't go looking for that please. Just... don't.

Given the year, I thought it would be fitting to join the Then and Now challenge, so here it is - my quick entry.

I actually started Second Life in 2008 when it was introduced to my secondary school for learning purposes. Me and a few friends were part of a test group to see if Second Life could be a viable educational resource. We were set up on special accounts that only had access to our school's sim, which featured a building that was supposed to be the design of our school's new building (we moved into the new building in early 2011 and it looked nothing like the Second Life one).

That wasn't enough for me. I jumped on a teen grid account and got busy roleplaying. And the rest, as they say, is history. I took a few breaks here and there, but I returned properly in August 2016 and am still around now as GavinIV - Fletch to friends.

Ten years ago, I was barely human, most of the time. I actually had a line on my profile for several years--"If you don't recognize the face beneath the name, it's probably me." Cat, rabbit, equine, mermaid, demon, fawn, Unseelie, zombie, porcelain doll, and the over 500 skins (not exaggerating; at my height I counted 613) that accompanied them, I was anything and everything random whim told me to be.

N ow? I have a daily hair I wear most of the time, green eyes I rarely if EVER take off, I've been in the same 7 Deadly s[K]ins skin (Noellia, from Izara's Advent calendar two years back) for two years. My catgirl skins languish along with the other furs, and I've gotten rid of all the ferals.

I miss those rapid shifts, some days, but most of the time...I'm happy like this. It may not be me-the-mercurial, but it is a face that says "me", to me, and...most of the time, that's enough.

Almost 13 years on SL with a few-year break. Been a bumpy ride at times but I've met some great and real friends along the way, so it was worth it eventually.
