A beautiful end to a bitterly cold, crisp winters day, the beach deserted apart from myself and a fellow gloveless* tog. but no sign of Anne or her father....

One thing that I miss in Finland during the summer, is the sunsets...

We can see sunsets in Helsinki, but very late.....

So yesterday I decided to do some late shooting, and try to catch some of the golden hour and sunset colors.

It was worth it

The remains of some WW2 tank traps in Poole Harbour, Dorset. This was am 80 second exposure taken at sunset.

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

The best way to view my photostream is through Flickriver with the following link: www.flickriver.com/photos/photojourney57/

"Journey to the Sun: The Marmara Soar" is a serendipitous capture during a voyage back to Istanbul, where the sun's descent into the Marmara Sea painted the sky in a spectrum of fiery hues. Amidst this tranquil maritime odyssey, a fortuitous series of shots framed the glorious sunset, culminating in this one: a solitary bird, its trajectory set towards the heart of the sun.

This photograph transcends a mere sunset; it is a narrative of return and discovery. The bird, a fleeting silhouette against the sun's radiant canvas, mirrors my own journey on the ship, a path illuminated by the golden hour's reflection on the water. The moment was unscripted, the alignment perfect – a testament to the unforeseen beauty that unfolds when you're sailing towards the world's edge.

As I steadied my lens, the cosmos aligned for a brief instant, allowing me to immortalize the bird's daring flight into the dying light. It was an unplanned dance with the sun, a natural convergence that symbolizes hope, freedom, and the pursuit of light even as darkness approaches. This image, a cherished entry for 'My Best Photo 2023', invites you to soar with me and embrace the journey towards the luminous unknown.

So that’s it Duffy….Once again we bid a farewell to the Sun, as it dips slowly into the deep and coloured red Atlantic Ocean……And now with the day done, I expect we soon get a call to bed ……But for now we are going to play at hard of hearing…For having paid for the best seats in the house…I think we ought to get full use of them……But make sure you leave room for our dear reader, as I am hoping that they will come and join us before the Sun sets and disappears completely

This photo was taken on the gravel shoreline at Reenard Point, just outside Caherciveen, Co. Kerry, with Knightstown in the distance.

Seemly showing the heavens that have so many of our memories to remember !!!!!!! ….

And before I forget…. that change of message I mentioned earlier from the Shelties, is Nigh Night🌃 dear reader, for we are about to head off home

The shipwreck of the M/V Demetrios II, about 500m off the coast of Coral Bay, Cyprus

After a spate of moody, brooding mono's I thought i would brighten things up momentarily.

This is a longer exposure taken the other weekend when it was one of those fortunate right place, right time moments that we always hope for.

Still one of the most beautiful sunsets I have witnessed.

Have a good weekend everyone.

After sunset, Silhouette Island

My buddy Nick Steinberg and I decided to head south along the California coast as #escaype forecasted a killer sunset. We saw fog south of Half Moon Bay and decided to visit a local favorite. It didn’t disappoint.

Perch Rock Lighthouse, also known as New Brighton Lighthouse or Black Rock Lighthouse, is located in the northwest corner of the Wirral Peninsula in New Brighton, at the mouth of the River Mersey, England. Perch Rock gets its name from the wooden perch that once held the navigational light before the lighthouse.

The stone lighthouse, based on John Smeatons Eddystone tower, took three years to build and was completed in 1830. The lower part of the 90-foot lighthouse is solid granite, with three stories of living quarters above. The light was automated in 1925 and eventually decommissioned in 1973.

One thing we never tire of is watching sunsets over the sea…..And this one has a special meaning…..For soon…… It will be Misty birthday…..(10 August)...And this will be the first time we have not had her in our company for quite some time now…..….So we was hoping for a good show (In memory of her) as we sit on the beach in one of Misty and Molly’s favourite spots ……And as you can see, the view did not disappoint….….Leading me to ask you if you have ever sat on the beach waiting for sunset to happen…..because if you have, you will know it seems to take a age……and then it all happens so very fast…..But we are getting ahead in our story…. So let’s backtrack a bit where we find that having to wait an hour sat on the beach waiting for it to happen….But although the Sun still had some way to go…… But not matter, as during that time we had the spectacle of seeing the Atlantic Ocean turning from a deep blue to a fiery red, as the Sun descending forever seawards, making you wonder if the Atlantic Ocean was in danger of boiling away ….…..But the real wonder is up above as the Sky turns into a golden hue and the heavens above appear to open up the golden gates……And on a calm evening like this one with only a gentle sea breeze….The world seems to briefly stop turning on its axis….and for that short while becomes at peace with itself… As the sun does not pause or stop as it slowly sets and slowly disappears over the Atlantic Oscan horizon to start a new day in some faraway places ….. But today Sunset sky has turned into something that we was not expecting……For never did we imagine that we would see an image of you Misty & Molly in vague outlines in the heavens above just before the sun was about to set…..Or was it nothing more than our imagination that led to our tears…. we don’t know……Maybe we briefly dosed and dreamt it all…..But one thing we are sure about Misty &Molly…. Is that every day…..every night….. You are never as far away as we sometimes think you have become…..~Sigh~…….And maybe we will having you near on your birthday after all
