From July, 1991, we can see why Seagate (we presume it is) is a one-way street. We do not know if the photographer snapped a tight squeeze as the artic (right) edged past the parked flatbed, or if they were wedged. Either way, side mirrors must have been at great risk.

My Workstation as of February, 2014; I bought these two Dell S2340L IPS monitors a couple of weeks ago, but was confined at the hospital due to migraine headache and measles to actually enjoy or take photos of my updated system. Now that I'm all fine and dandy, here we are.

This is where most of the magic happens... videos, photos, games... My life.

I apologise for the poor quality, but I hope the content makes up for it.

A typical Arbroath street scene in Seagate, in 1893. That might be the corner of the Old Brewhouse on the right.

Facing Sarasota Bay, the 1920s mansion of Powel Crosley Jr. (1886-1961), who was once described as “The Henry Ford of Radio Broadcasting”. Crosley also manufactured a compact car in the early postwar years.

This picture of Seagate, Arbroath, was taken from beside the Old Brewhouse. Although nothing is written on the back of the print, we suspect it was taken to illustrate the congestion caused by (it was alleged) the fish processing factory along the street.

Mary Queen of Scots and her four Marys (Mary Beaton Mary Seaton, Mary Flemming and Mary Livingstone) visited here in 1563. They were entertained by Hugh, third Earl of Eglinton who was one of her staunchest supporters.

"I was queen o Bonnie France and I'm the sovreign of Scotland"

The Queen's Marys

There are many versions of this ballad. It is based on the legend that Mary, Queen of Scots had four ladies in waiting and one of them was executed on the Queen's orders. This was because she had caught the attention of the Queen's husband. In the song the unfortunate lady is sadly lamenting how it was her beauty that led to her death. There are also various suggestions as to who the "me" in the song refers to. Could it be, Marie Hamilton, Marie Fleming, Marie Ogilvy? Who knows? The list is endless.

Yestreen the Queen had four Marys,

The nicht she'll hae but three,

There was Mary Seaton and Mary Beaton,

And Mary Carmichael and me

Oh! Often hae I dressed my queen,

And put gowd in her hair;

But noo I've gotten for my reward,

The gallows tae be my share.

Yestreen etc.

Oh little did my mither think,

The day she cradled me,

That I should die sic a like daith,

And hang on the gallows tree.

Yestreen etc.

Oh! Happy happy is the maid,

That's born o' beauty free,

It was ma dimplin' rosy cheek,

That's been the dool o' me.

yestreen - yesterday evening

nicht - night

gowd - gold

gotten - got

mither - mother

sic - such

daith - death

dool - downfall
