“I’ve just finished my last university exam. I was able to use my hands a lot more and write for my school exams, but over time my muscular dystrophy worsened and it took me longer and longer. Eventually they had to appoint a person to write for me. So now, I’m in a private room with an amanuensis, a scribe, who writes down what I say. It was difficult to get used to at first because writing something down and vocalising answers is very different, there’s an internal thought process with writing which isn’t the same in speaking. Imagine if you had to write down interview answers rather than answering them to a person.”
