PRINTFEST 2012

will be held at The Coronation Hall, Ulverston on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 May 2012 between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm. Friday 4 May 7.00-9.00 pm Private View

I've cobbled together this equipment for exposing small screens. I'm using a 500w halogen lamp, cooled by an electric fan. Piling a lot of books and other heavy things on top of the screen helps to keep a sharp image. It's working pretty well, exposure seems to take about 10-12 minutes.

Read More - I have begun a series of paintings (screenprints) ready for my exhibition in the ‘Long Gallery’ (West Buckland School, Barnstaple, North Devon). The loose idea for these images is based around the title ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – the ‘beauty‘ will be a large ape. This will coincide with a workshop I am giving on how to create woodcuts. … Continue reading →

My first gocco rack of prints teehee! I've managed to align the 2 screens properly this time.

But of course, I still made mistakes.

The biggest mistake that made me face palm? (I literally face palm for 10 secs):

I flashed without putting the screen in.

So there goes my 2 lovely bulbs. Sacrificed for nothing! T-T

And 2 screens didn't burn properly. I don't know why. My photocopies look solid enough, but the screens turn out patchy. So sad. I will try burning the images on the same screen again, but too bad I wasted 4 bulbs.

After cutting all the paper by hand with an exacto knife and ruler (from enormous 25x40 sheets), and emulsifying/burning the screen, I prepared to lay down the first color...not having screenprinted in 8 years! A deep breath at this moment.

The last week of our screen printing project and it's panic stations in the print room!
