We were putting the finishing touches on a new cooling tower installation at work. 4 new units on the 6 floor level with an impressive crane doing the lifting. I managed to get a couple of shots on the way to the parking lot.

Nice in large.

This brade new CAT 637E2 Scraper was being prepared for delivery to a power station where it would be used for moving coal from the stockpile into the station itself. It has been modified with a extended body to enable it to carry a larger load, photgraphed by me at the Finning Depot on the A5, Cannock, Stafforshire in June 1998.

The view of the heart of Jakarta, Indonesia.

I went downtown today with my bud Andrew and we walked around downtown, caught up and took some pictures. I got to pull out my fisheye for once! We got to meet up with one of our other friends, Jennifer, and we grabbed some Red Robin and then she let us take a few photos. Then we headed up to beacon hill where we climbed to the top of the elementary school and took in the sunset.

All in all, a good day. More to come soon!

At the end of the alley, the manure falls into the pit underneath the barn. From there it is pumped to the digester where methane is collected.

La Défense is a major business district for the city of Paris located at the westernmost extremity of Paris' 10 km long Historical Axis, which starts at the Louvre in Central Paris and continues along the Champs-Élysées, well beyond the Arc de Triomphe before ending with the futurist Grande Arche.

The first sky-scraper (Esso Tower) was built in 1958; since then the area is still under development. La Défense is Europe's largest business district: land surface of 314’000 square meters, 72 glass-and-steel slick buildings, 14 high-rises above 150 meters, 150’000 daily workers, 3.5 million square meters of office space. La Défense is named after the statue “La Défense de Paris”, which was built in 1884 to commemorate the soldiers who had defended Paris during the Franco-Prussian War. The name of the area sometimes causes confusion with visitors, who occasionally assume it is some kind of military zone or establishment.

The Arche de la Défense, the area’s landmark, is almost a perfect cube (width: 108 m, height: 110 m, depth: 112 m). It has a prestressed concrete frame covered with glass and Carrara marble and was built by the French civil engineering company Bouygues. The nearly-completed Arche was inaugurated in July 1989, with grand military parades that marked the bicentenary of the French Revolution.
