A windowless skyscraper in the heart of New York City may be the secret Manhattan surveillance hub of the US National Security Agency (NSA), The Intercept has reported. The brutalist, 29-storey AT&T Long Lines Building at 33 Thomas Street has sheer concrete walls that could reportedly survive an atomic explosion; inside, documents leaked by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden suggest, is one of the agency’s most important spying centres.

As soon as I reached the hamlet of Ralston I could tell I was along the departed Milwaukee Road Pacific Extension again. The sign along the empty right of way carried the familiar format and font. A trail sign here provided plenty of history and information. A historical photo of this place on the sign showed the elevator in use back in 1975. Interestingly, Ralston was home to an old wooden elevator at that time (clad in tin). It would seem this concrete silo was built with just a couple years remaining before the end of rail service.
