Greenshank - Tringa Nebularia
The greenshank breeds on the boggy moors and ancient peatlands of Scotland. But it can be spotted elsewhere in the UK as it passes through on migration - look around lakes, marshes and the coast.
A large, elegant sandpiper, the greenshank feeds in shallow waters, often chasing small invertebrates and fish, which it hunts by sight. During summer, greenshank are found only on moors and bogs in Scotland, but during migration, they can be found across the UK on inland freshwater lakes and marshes, and coastal wetlands.
Greenshank can be distinguished from similar-sized waders like redshank and godwits by the colour of their legs: grey-green. Adults are olive-grey above and silvery-white below, with dark streaking on the breast. Greenshank have long, slightly upturned, grey bills.
A passage migrant and scarce visitor winter visitor to shallow wetlands inland and around the coast. Nests on the boggy 'flow country' of northern Scotland.
Scientific name: Onychoprion anaethetus
Trinomial name: Onychoprion anaethetus melanopterus
Ssp name: O. a. melanopterus
Common name: Bridled tern
Nombre: Charrán monja, Charrán embriado
Lugar de la captura: República Dominicana
As per Wikipedia:
The bridled tern (Onychoprion anaethetus) is a seabird of the family Laridae. It is a bird of the tropical oceans. The scientific name is from Ancient Greek. The genus comes from onux meaning "claw" or "nail", and prion, meaning "saw". The specific anaethetus means "senseless, stupid".
This species breeds in colonies on rocky islands. It nests in a ground scrape or hole and lays one egg. It feeds by plunge-diving for fish in marine environments, but will also pick from the surface like the black tern and the gull-billed tern. It usually dives directly, and not from the "stepped-hover" favoured by the Arctic tern.

This buck stops to stretch and rub his face into this spruce bough. They do this as a means to leave their scent , secretions from eye and facial glands, on the bough and leave their mark. They will also nibble on the branch tips and their scent gets left that way as well. This "scrape" is part of their behaviour to mark territory and attract does.

I had a couple of hours before catching a plane in Newark and ended up in the Liberty State Park, a fantastic spot to get great shots of Lower Manhattan skyline.

Rather distant, I was nonetheless pleased to see this Marsh Harrier settled in the reeds overlooking one of the freshwater scrapes at Titchfield Haven. Looking at the seed heads and the Marsh Harrier's breast plumage, I marvel once again at Nature's camouflage.

The Killdeer’s broken-wing act leads predators away from a nest, but doesn’t keep cows or horses from stepping on eggs. To guard against large hoofed animals, the Killdeer uses a quite different display, fluffing itself up, displaying its tail over its head, and running at the beast to attempt to make it change its path.
A well-known denizen of dry habitats, the Killdeer is actually a proficient swimmer. Adults swim well in swift-flowing water, and chicks can swim across small streams.
The male and female of a mated pair pick out a nesting site through a ritual known as a scrape ceremony. The male lowers his breast to the ground and scrapes a shallow depression with his feet. The female then approaches, head lowered, and takes his place. The male then stands with body tilted slightly forward, tail raised and spread, calling rapidly. Mating often follows.

Re-Edit of a shot from Osaka, Japan in 2014. I went there for vacation and of course to take a lot of pictures. This was my 3rd time to Japan, but I want to go back - hopefully soon.
St.Perer`s Church in Malmö Sweden
The interior of the Church remains mainly in accordance with its orginal plan, including elegantly shaped pillars and arches. The rich frescoes that covered the vault during the middle ages were hidden from the eye in the year 1555 when the entire edifice was whitewashed.During a restoration carried out in the 1850,all traces of the former frescoes were scraped away

Though it was technically past sunrise, thick clouds and still being the 0700 hour made grabbing the Santa Train at Pool Point a high ISO, low shutter affair. Still, the masses came before the train showed up to grab the iconic train crossing an equally iconic bridge in what little light was available. This was the Clinchfield I wanted to see.

A tree rat basically, foraging for the crumbs I left on our balcony in the hope of attracting a nice duet of Robins. Having said that the Robin is well known in the avian world for being a vicious little b@stard.
The squirrel is now a regular customer, making the super leap from a nearby tree and landing less than gracefully onto the balcony.
Cute and less nervous than the birds, he and I shared a Maryland Cookie 🍪 ... then I remembered the bloody things are vermin and covered in fleas and ticks. The squirrel not the cookie.
Maybe it’s time for the egg and 2 forks pic?
