Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture’s design for the Powerhouse Science Center re-envisions a historic riverfront structure as a hub for science education, exploration and promotion in the City of Sacramento. On the banks of the Sacramento River, the Science Center grows out from an abandoned power station building. As a principal component of the Riverfront activation, the Powerhouse Science Center anchors Robert T. Matsui Waterfront Park and borders the southern terminus of the 32-mile American River Bike Trail.
Vacant for over half a century, the structure undergoes a complete historic rehabilitation and the construction of a new floor level inside. A new two-story addition projects from the east side, containing a lobby, classrooms, offices and a cafe. A 110-seat planetarium is prominently on display with a zinc-clad hemispheric dome rising above the building’s mass. As representation of our place in the universe, the facade and building mass is sectioned by multiple planes, creating continuous vector lines that extend across the building and site. From satellites to world landmarks, the lines form connections with local and global points of interest.
The original PG&E Power Station B was designed in 1912 in the Beaux Arts Style by architect Willis Polk and was formally closed in 1954. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, California Register of Historic Places and the Sacramento Register of Historic & Cultural Resources. The Powerhouse Science Center is designed to achieve a USGBC LEED Rating of Silver.

Today is all about the science fair! from setting up, to judging... to take down and even parent teacher conferences in between... I'm spending the whole day at the school. Don't mind a bit, either.

NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam is a science centre that was founded in 1923 as the Museum of Labor by the painter Herman Heijenbrock, who wanted to share his enthusiasm for technology and industry.
The museum changed its name and location several times, and became the NEMO Science Museum in 2016. It is now housed in a building designed by Renzo Piano on the IJ river, and has five floors of hands-on science exhibitions.
On behalf of iLearn STEAM Crew, I would like to congratulate the participants of the 6th Annual North Jersey Science Olympiad. This year’s 300 Olympians worked in 20 teams to complete 14 challenges in science, technology, engineering and problem solving. It was a wonderful tournament with full of energy and enthusiasm. The four highest scoring teams were awarded trophies and individual students received 1st to 6th place medals.

"For they remember yet the tales we told them
Around the hearth, of fairies, long ago.
When they loved still in fancy to behold them
Quick dancing earthward in the feathery snow.
But now the young and fresh imagination
Finds traces of their presence everywhere,
And peoples with a new and bright creation
The clear blue chambers of the sunny air."

This is my glovebox, the gauges and switches at the bottom control the pressure inside the box (using nitrogen gas and a vacuum line). I do work inside the box by putting my hands in the gloves and pushing them in (i have the hands turned in at the moment so you can't see them but the black tubes sticking out are gloves). This allows me to work with compounds that are air sensitive. It is a real art form trying to do delicate, fiddly work while wearing thick butyl gloves =)
