This photo serves two purposes for me-first, a continued reminder that kids shouldn't have to go to school fearing that they will be killed because it's far too easy to get a gun in this country and the majority of states don't even require background checks.

Second, if you haven't already figured it out, probably the best thing about this country is it's diversity so if you are the type of person to get defensive and whitesplain everything with your fake nationalism, try listening to the diverse human story and learning. Be kind. Like the flag this little girl is holding, this country is in a state of flux and incompleteness....too many hateful racists feel like they can say and do whatever they want. Trump hasn't made America "great" again. He's just made it racist again. Not to say these people didn't always exist....but I liked it much better when they were quieter.

Boys celebrating life. I took this photo on May 24, 2022, the day of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Scenes like this are what should happen in our schools and do happen on a daily basis. It's time to take action to ensure the safety of our students. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. The photo was taken at Rockfish Hoke Elementary School in Hoke County, North Carolina.

Today was a nationwide student Walkout over school safety. Ramapo High School participated

DOT Art partnered with DOT School Safety to present a barrier mural along the jersey barriers that protect the bike lane on 7th Avenue between 67th Street and Bay Ridge Parkway in Brooklyn. Titled, “Strong/Soft like a Cliffrose,” the floral design aimed to bring a bit of whimsy and color to the daily commute. The contrasting colored pattern softened the concrete surface of the barriers while paying tribute to the Cliffrose’s ability to survive in extreme weather conditions and grow on rocky cliffs. Artist, Cat Willett, lead the painting of the mural with assistance from volunteers from New York Cares, JP Morgan Chase & Co. and students from I.S. 259 William McKinley School. The protected bike lane was one of a number of safety projects related to the Mayor’s Green Wave plan to increase cycling safety in NYC.

“Urban Playscape” unites intersecting black and white stripes juxtaposed against woven pixelated bands of bright pink, orange and turquoise, with geometric shapes of lush greens and billowing lines suggestive of a biological, human world. The design creates a sense of place suggestive of a dynamic game board that can be infinitely improvised for play and interaction to inspire creativity and imagination.
