Steps dates from the mid-seventeenth century and was built for German school students who were located on the hill above. The steps was built in 1662 by Mayor Eisenburger, its purpose being to make easier access to the School form the hill during the winter.
Initially was 300 steps protected by a roof, but in 1849, after some changes there were only 175 steps. There is a legend that says that the boy has to kiss the girl on each step and call her name. If he does a mistake it means that is not the chosen one of the girl.

Some 12 years ago in Hefei, the capital of the province Anhui. This wasn't my real job then - I just had been convinced by a charming teacher (she isn't in the picture, she took it with my camera) to give this English lesson to two of their classes.
Schoolchildren's art on display in the Tateishi Nakamise shopping arcade. Local shops and the shopping street association give prizes for kids' art, and some of the winners were on display when I visited.
To me, this photo shows the strong connection between local shopping streets and the community. They are one and the same, essentially. Gut one, you're going to end up gutting the other. This arcade is over sixty years old, and arguably needs to be rebuilt. Rebuilt--not replaced by something that will primarily serve the interests of entities outside the community, who have no vested interest in it, and see it only as a locus for extracting profit.
This photo in a suburb of Johannesburg in South Africa shows students waiting for their bus. School is compulsory for everyone in South Africa. That is very good. Unfortunately, it is far from being the case in all countries of the continent. Many African families would not even have the money for uniform school clothes, let alone books and writing materials.

The photo of the schoolchildren returning home presented above was taken on the outskirts of the mountain village.
What do they have in common? Nothing special, they are both idioms, brought together by this ditzy red and white outfit.......
A Red herring describes the ploy used by schoolchildren through the ages, to divert their teachers attention from the laid down curriculum.......
A White Elephant is a burdensome possession; creating more trouble than it is worth. The origin of this idiom:- Albino Elephants were regarded as holy in ancient times in Thailand and other Asian countries.; Keeping a white elephant was a very expensive undertaking, since the owner had to provide the elephant with special food and provide access for people who wanted to worship it. If a Thai King became dissatisfied with a subordinate, he would give him a white elephant. The gift would, in most cases, ruin the recipient.
So what does this photo tell us......... the girl in this picture is a distraction, and a high mantenance one at that......... or is she........????

In the heart of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, lies the centuries-old Old Bazaar – Stara Čaršija. This is one of the largest and oldest bazaars in the Balkans and has been a lively trading hub since the Ottoman era. The narrow cobblestone streets, traditional shops, teahouses, and old mosques give the district a unique, almost timeless atmosphere. Here, history, culture, and daily life come together. In this photo, we see a group of schoolchildren with their teachers, likely on a field trip. They are ready to learn more about the city’s rich history and the bazaar. The colorful facades, old houses, and narrow alleys form the perfect setting to introduce young generations to their city’s cultural heritage. It is beautiful to see how the bazaar is not only a tourist attraction but also a place where the local community gathers and learns.
A group of schoolchildren explores Skopje’s Old Bazaar, discovering the living history and vibrant atmosphere of this centuries-old marketplace.
