Many theatre companies and organizers around the world recognize the need to consider more sustainable practices in theatre production. However there are considerable costs in setting up such ventures, and in the smaller theatre economies of island nations on the Pacific Pim, many wasteful practices continue to dominate in theatre production. TEDxHonolulu’s scenography uses recycled or recyclable materials, non toxic natural dies such as beetroot juice, squid ink, and LED technology with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of the scenography by 70%.
