The River Wye bends off around to the right at this point, centre photo the cliff face covered by trees is called the Scar, a footpath runs along the top through the trees to a hamlet called Monnington-on-Wye.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

It was finally great to escape from the rigours of lockdown and get some fresh air and new images. A quick nip up to Twisleton Scar after a round of golf at Lancaster in sunny warm conditions. Great also to meet up with Pete Rowbottam here and watch his mastery of flying his drone!

The weather however changed very rapidly in the 45 minutes before sunset, the temperatures dropped significantly and a cold strong wind had Pete's drone rapidly recalled to base. It was a good job I had my winter stuff and a flask of hot tea in my rucksack to ward off the chill as dusk set in.

This limestone finger leading to the tree and Ingleborough provided a decent subject until we moved to get a sunset shot on the scar end. A nice hour of freedom at the end of a long 3 months.

Burned by bushfires two years ago, the silver bones of the dead trees remain standing.

Saw this great pumpkin at my local Whole Foods recently. I just LOVE pumpkins...the gnarlier and scarred the better!

Fire scars are common on the lower trunks of sequoias qnd redwoods . This fire scar appears on the uphill side od a Sequoiadendron giganteum, commonly referred to as the giant sequoia, giant redwood, Sierra redwood, Sierran redwood, that grows in the Deer Creek Grove in Great Sequoia National Monument which is part of Sequoia National Forest. Researchers have determined that fire is citical to the survival of sequoias and rother members of the subfamily Sequoioideae. Fire is needed for the growth of new trees as well as the health of big trees. They are are a fire-adapted species. Burning around the base improves the soils and reduces competition. The fire dcauses thick layers to grow next ti the burned tissues that flare out the base of the tree and add stability.

There are some lovely views from Goat scar lane as it rises above Stainforth in Ribblesdale.

HSS...... trying something a little different for me today.

It is inevitable. We learn to live with those scars, or they kill us long before we actually die. Small scars, large, scars as long and deep as the ocean—they define us; they become a part of our life map.

Never be ashamed of a scar.

It simply means you were stronger

than whatever tried to hurt you.

Pen Y Ghent sits on the far left horizon with the limestone upland of Moughton Scar in the mid ground.

A fascinating area of the Yorkshire Dales and often overlooked in favour of the obvious honey pots around Ingleton, Ribblehead and Malham. I spent a few days exploring this area during September and barely encountered anyone else on my walks around this limestone paradise.

Cuttle Pool Nature Reserve was used for sand and gravel extraction from the 1930s and later for the dumping of building waste. Warwickshire Wildlife Trust took the site over in 2012, and nature is slowly overcoming the scars.

The view along the Limestone Scar of Moughton from Capple Bank. The dark looking hill in the distance is Ingleborough.

I had a marvellous walk all around this area, which was a first for me. I think I covered 13 miles and I found some fascinating spots for photography. Conditions weren't ideal but I came away with some nice locations on my list to revisit at some point.

Another re-visit to the lonely tree on White Scar. I had been here a couple of years ago and there are so many different compositions to be had, with the fascinating textures and structures in the Limestone pavement here. The tree, like so many up in the Dales, has seen better days, but it is clinging on to life.

I had arranged for my Fllickr buddy, John Bleakley, to join me up here in the hope of catching a sunset. So after a rendezvous down by the erratics on Raven Scar, we made our way to this spot and we had a wonderful hour and catch up. I have quite a few different takes on this scene and I'm sure JB has quite a few too.

This was about 35 minutes before sunset and the sun was sort of between the trees branches. We got some weird conditions later with the summit of Ingleborough in the opposite direction, looking like it had been vaporised in clouds. I'll post that shot later.

Tune: Sunday Morning
