One morning I got tunnelvision though the light was breaking through from the left.

This picture is long distance since a helicopter was scaring the shit out of this one and it ran like hell along the forest edge to the left through a stripe of bushes to another field and then crossed the road up ahead. Barely had time to get the camera out but then it stopped on the other side for a couple of portraits (more on that later).

Crane taking off near stone fence in the morning sunlight. Spent half an hour sneaking into position in the wet grass on the other side of the stone fence between me and the two birds. Magnificent feeling to be so close to them even for a very short while.

"Been here for hours and nothing. Mate, I'm telling ya: Something... fishy... about this lake..."

A moment of quiet majesty—this Mute Swan glided into perfect light just as the wind caught its wings. Nature’s elegance never fails to amaze me.

Out before sunrise.

One of several pictures we took of nature's beauty up in the far north of Sweden. We stopped to take this picture while driving from Kiruna to Abisko along E10 (European Highway 10). These rapids are part of the Rautasälven (River of Rautas) which runs about 22 kilometers northeast of Kiruna, Sweden.

Norway is a place of endless natural beauty. Incredible fjords, winding small roads, raw tunnels carved through the bedrock and so much more. These images are from summer road trips during 2024.

This is another first for me this summer. Not everyday you get to take pictures of these proud birds (Tetrao urogallus).

The western capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus), also known as the wood grouse, heather cock, or just capercaillie /ˌkæpərˈkeɪli/, is the largest member of the grouse family. The largest known specimen, recorded in captivity, had a weight of 7.2 kg (16 lb). The species shows extreme sexual dimorphism, with the male twice the size of the female. Found across Europe and Asia, this spectacular ground-living forest bird is renowned for its mating display.

What to do with a day and a half near Bergen? Rent a car and drive for the hills. I enjoyed exploring the fjords, charted my path from waterfall to waterfall and looked for small roads that traced along the fjords or through back valleys. Timing was ideal, as the trip fell when the fjords were breaking up and shortly after a recent dusting of snow.

We don’t need to do great things to make a difference—small things, done with great love, can be just as powerful. 💫
