Inside an abandoned market booth, a forgotten shopping scale lies on the floor, dust-covered and silent, like the last trace of something that once was.

I have made a few improvements on my N scale layout. Recent photos show some deciduous trees and pine trees I made and added to several of my commercial and residential buildings. Then I made ten new Ponderosa Pine and ten Douglas Fir trees for my future mountain range. All of these were made using Woodland Scenics tree kits that have plastic armatures and ground foam foliage. Maybe I'll photograph the tree making process someday. I was too busy to stop the often sticky process to set up my camera. This photo shows a combination of new and three year old trees.
I also have several dozen Heki trees that I want to upgrade into more realistic versions of Englemann Spruce or Subalpine Fir for my higher elevations. The Heki trees are bottle brush type conifers with molded plastic trunks that will need more appropriate paint jobs and ground foam foliage. That will require some experiments to get the technique right. My objective is to portray the kind of forest I hiked in New Mexico near the Santa Fe Railway.
I am also reworking my industrial area. The factory and lumber mill you see on your right will be modified along with older buildings I pulled from storage boxes and a couple of kits that have been sitting for 20+ years. I have already rearranged the yellow lumber mill and the brick factory buildings. The new factory by DPM must go where the factory with the smokestack sat due to the location of the loading docks. The old brick factory will go where the yellow lumber mill sat and require a new loading configuration. The yellow lumber shed will get modified and placed next to an old factory building that will emerge after drastic surgery as a sawmill complex. First I have see see if the buildings fit next to the tracks and streets that access them before I start altering the buildings with new loading doors, new loading docks, new sheds, and roof modifications. New signs and figures come last along with landscaping.
Added 2 new 50' DAF flat cars to the NASA fleet, I've got a few possible plans for these: Titan SRB segment flatcars (working on getting these designed but it will take some time), a fictitious V-2 (or bumper, I haven't decided yet) transport consist or having these just be spacers. My next project that randy will be doing for me is related to this (FM is on the list but not this season) Any guesses?

A prototypical model of a ballast through plate girder bridge. This bridge is designed in a very similar manner to that of a real through plate girder bridge, mimicking the same structural engineering techniques and styles. This model has been designed with both cosmetics and strength in mind (I designed this model specifically for my own 1:38 scale trains which are considerably larger and heavier than typical LEGO trains).

Not as sophisticated as Sariel's scaler - however, quite helpful to get correct proportions when building minifig scale vehicles. You just need a tablet with a blueprint on its screen zoomed to the proper scale (here I'm using a dummy for obvious reasons). Starting point is always the wheelbase wherefrom all the other measurements can be deduced by checking the silhouette.
H1 wheelbase = 3302 mm; wheelbase of the model = 96 mm (12 studs); scale = 1/34,4
Tree scale is caused by the digestion of usually rotting wood by scores of different fungal species. As the fungi digest the wood these scales develop on the outer surface of the wood. The scales vary greatly in size color and shape and some can become quite beautiful with alternating layers of color. Agnes Riviera Drama is Scarlett O Hara in a deleted scene from Gone with the Wind. Agnes (Scarlett) spends a few moments pondering whether the red dress is the right thing to wear to Melanie's gathering. She loves the sumptuous velvet and the low cut low neckline shows off her full creamy bosom to perfection. She always has been a rule breaker but her latest attempt to lure Ashley away from Melanie was less than subtle and the good folk of the town do have a tendency to gossip. "Nah, to hell with it!" thinks Agnes - "YOLO!"

I started playing around with five-wide Lego cars more than 14 years ago (!). Lego has progressed a bit since then and so have I, as a builder. New brackets, nicer wheels and various curved slopes have made this a bit easier.
I came across this product by accident but it fit the bill perfectly for scaled down chain link fencing.
It's an aluminum mesh used for sculpting and arts and crafts projects, called WIREFORM.
It comes in 16" x 20" sheets and also as an 18" roll.
I suspect there are similar products out there in Hobby and Arts and Crafts stores.
Be aware that it bends very easily! You'll want to handle it carefully so as not to stretch or deform it.
When making the actual fence, I cut strips of the mesh to the appropriate length and height, then cut aluminum tubing for the posts and rails.
To add a bit of authenticity to the piece, I used jewelry wire to hold the fencing to the posts.
The metal cap you see in the upper right hand corner of the fence, that receives the top rail, is a jewelry making item used for finishing off the end of a bracelet or necklace.
