The main reason we like trees is because they are both beautiful and majestic. Trees help record the history of your family as they grow and develop alongside you and your kids. We often make an emotional connection with trees we plant or become personally attached to the ones that we see every day. Trees control climate by moderating the effects of the sun, rain and wind. Leaves absorb and filter the sun's radiant energy, keeping things cool in summer. Trees also preserve warmth by providing a screen from harsh wind. In addition to influencing wind speed and direction, they shield us from the downfall of rain, sleet and hail. Trees also lower the air temperature and reduce the heat intensity of the greenhouse effect by maintaining low levels of carbon dioxide.

"We all moan and groan about the loss of the quality of life through the

destruction of our ecology, and yet every one of us, in our own little

comfortable ways, contributes daily to that destruction. It's time now to

awaken in each one of us the respect and attention our beloved Mother

deserves. "To waste, to destroy, our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land

instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining in

the days of our children the very prosperity which we ought by right to hand

down to them amplified. . . "

"A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our

land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people. I go to nature every day for inspiration in the day's work. I follow in building

the principles which nature has used in its domain. One touch of nature makes the whole world kin."

We like trees around us because they make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to the presence of trees beyond simply observing their beauty. We feel serene, peaceful, restful, and tranquil in a grove of trees. We are “at home” there. Hospital patients have been shown to recover from surgery more quickly when their hospital room offered a view of trees. The strong ties between people and trees are most evident in the resistance of community residents to removing trees to widen streets. Or we note the heroic efforts of individuals and organizations to save particularly large or historic trees in a community.

The stature, strength, and endurance of trees give them a cathedral-like quality. Because of their potential for long life, trees frequently are planted as living memorials. We often become personally attached to trees that we or those we love have planted.

I was first quite surprised to see the tree tied with spiny metal wire at the middle of nowhere when shooting with Nikon D40. I thought this might not be a good picture from the viewpoint of photography technicality but I was sure it would carry out a heavy message.
