Time is running out
The mission of the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States.

My first time back since the pandemic of 2020 closed live music venues nationwide; a very limited audience for a night of music with Charlie Parr. The audience was brought in via the 7th St Entry door, and routed through to the Mainroom, with individual instructions by the staff as they were checked in.

"Save Our Stages" - 9:30 Club, Washington, DC USA
"According to library records, (Duke) Ellington was one of the club's co-owners. The structure was built in 1946 and looks virtually identical today, down to the location and contrasting color of the club's box office windows. Only the broadcast antenna that serves as a reminder of the building's years as the home of WUST-AM 1120 appears absent, a later addition."

Enormous figure of Abraham Lincoln seems to peer through the plea #SaveOurStagews on a window at the Lincoln Theater.
In the aftermath of the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, hundreds of businesses were damaged in the civil unrest and widespread arson that accompanied some of the peaceful protests for social justice. This is an image taken before a night of music filled the venue more than a year before, and featured bands playing in both spaces of the legendary Turf Club on University Avenue in St. Paul.
Already shuttered due to the COVID pandemic, the interior was heavily damaged by mindless looting in early June of 2020. Currently being renovated, it remains closed by the plague that has killed over 170,000 Americans as of the date of this post. Watching the Revivalists tonight on the last day of the “Save Our Stages Fest” on YouTube, took me back to our last concert at The Anthem in DC, days before the COVID concerns shutdown live music venues everywhere.
Throughout the first two weeks of the pandemic, I was pretty certain myself and everyone else at that show likely got coronavirus... but as the weeks went by, that last memory has really held me over for the lack of live venue music.

At the Turf Club in January of 2019; a massive show of local talent curated by Andrew Broder. The show included all kinds of projection in the lighting design; hence the odd texture on their face.
In the Mission Room; a live streamed show with only video, photo and tech staff in attendance. From the heart of the Longfellow neighborhood in Minneapolis, MN.
A throwback to February of this year; weeks before the whole world just started to come apart. The packed intimacy of a live music club and the careless joy of hundreds of photos taken seems like an unbelievable luxury now.
