Candidates who had already submitted their Expression of Interest to the province of Saskatchewan were given invitations allowing them to apply for a provincial nomination. This would give them an upper hand if they wanted to secure permanent residence. A recent draw held on 9th January saw Saskatchewan distributing invitations to 308 immigration candidates so that they could apply for a provincial nomination. It was the first draw of the year that was organized by the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), and it was largely productive. The invitations were given to candidates from the Express Entry pool and the Occupations In-Demand stream.
It was no mandatory for candidates to produce a job offer if they wanted to be invited for a provincial nomination during this draw. However, it was compulsory for them to complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) under the SINP. They were also required to have at least one year of work experience in any skilled occupation that was deemed eligible by the province and was related to their field of knowledge. After the submission of the EOI profiles, the SINP takes certain factors like age, education, language proficiency, skilled work experience, and connections to Saskatchewan into consideration when evaluating them. The candidates are then given a score out of 100 on the basis of SINP’s International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid. This score is then used to award rank to the candidate in the EOI pool. The candidates with the top ranks are then issued invitations that allow them to apply through the regular draws. Candidates from both streams were required to have a minimum score of 69 in order to secure an invitation to the SINP selection round.
The SINP distributed the 142 invitations among candidates who had existing profiles under the federal Express Entry pool.
The Canadian province of Saskatchewan conducted its first draw after revising the SINP (Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program) occupation list on September 2019. The province has invited 769 Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand candidates in the latest draw held September 25, 2019. The invitation is for those aspirants who wish to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence. The draw was amongst the largest draw held by Saskatchewan since it switched its EE and Occupation In-Demand categories to an Expression of Interest (EOI) system on July 2018.
The candidates invited in the latest SINP draw represented 100 occupations, which included civil and chemical engineers, psychologists, medical radiation technologists, information system analysts and consultants.
Overall, a total of 365 invitations have been issued to candidates in the SINP Occupation In-Demand category, whereas a total of 404 invitations were issued to the Express Entry Category, which is open to eligible candidates with a profile in the federal Express Entry system.
The selected candidates with a provincial nomination receive additional 600 points towards their overall CRS (Comprehension Ranking System) score. Though a job offer is not required for this sub-category, to be eligible to be considered for a provincial nomination a candidate must have at least 1 year of work experience in an eligible occupation related to the candidate’s field of study.
The minimum scores in the September 25 draw were 70 for Express Entry candidates and 79 for Occupation IN-Demand candidates.

The second selection round of the Saskatchewan draw ended up in the distribution of a total of 542 invitations amongst candidates belonging to the Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand categories. The recent two Saskatchewan selection rounds took place only a few days apart from each other. On 13th January, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) produced another 234 invitations and gave them to candidates classified under the province’s Occupations In-Demand and Express Entry categories.
The round held before that was a little bigger and issued a total of 308 invitations. They were given to candidates belonging to the same sub-categories. The two-day gap between the draws is the shortest recorded gap between two consecutive draws. Saskatchewan started the Expression of Interest (EOI) system back in August 2018, and since then, the dates of two consecutive draws have always been more than two days till January 2020.
Saskatchewan has an effective EOI system that grants permission to the province to pick out immigration candidates who have the potential to deliver their best performance in the province. The interested candidates have to create a profile in the EOI system, and they are then assessed based on certain factors. The authorities consider their work experience, language fluency, age, and education. Moreover, it is also taken into account if the candidate has any connection to the province that would make it easier for them to settle in.
All the candidates are awarded a score out of 100 on the basis of SINP’s International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid. The ones with the highest scores are then issued invitations that would allow them to apply for a provincial nomination. This will give them an edge if they want Canadian permanent residence. The minimum score for the January 13 draw was just 69 for both the categories.
