This mosque, the first erected in Egypt under Ottoman rule, was built by the governor (Suleiman Pasha) for the use of the Janissaries quartered in the northern enclosure. It was built around the shrine of al-Amir Abu Mansur Qasta, a governor of Alexandria who was related to Sidi Sariya, a companion of the Prophet. However there appears to be no proof that he came to Cairo, or is buried here.

We were in the same courtroom with the same judge who presided over the tearfully joyous adoption of Amina by my sister (a step which only four years later, may no longer be necessary). The judge first asked to see the child she last saw, and held, as a baby. Judge Yu presided over both events with warmth, intelligence, wit, and a strong emphasis on the family before her.

We bezochten trainingskamp van YPJ, de vrouwelijke afdeling van YPG. Dat zijn de "Eenheden voor de Verdediging van het Volk", opgericht na de revolutie om Rojava te beschermen.
