from wikipedia: Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater).

Santorini is basically a mountain, so there are steep stairs everywhere! We had to climb what felt like hundreds to get to our rooms.

All the houses spaced on top of one another in Oia, Santorini as they appear to cascade down the island. The windmills mixed with the white and blue houses really capture the essence of island life in Greece. There was something so peaceful and tranquil about the Greek Isles that I felt was really captured in these pictures. The life of those living on a small island is far from the what we as Americans are used to. With our fast paced lives it was nice to see the relaxing life of island living. Americans often find themselves wrapped up in having the next trendy item or having the bigger house or the better car and the Greek Isles are the complete opposite. They have a more peaceful, laid back life that revolves more around community and fishing. Their simple and modest houses were so stunningly beautiful. And the views, to this day remain, the most beautiful I've ever seen. The islands really help you take a step back and remember that happiness is not about material items and it reminds us to take time to enjoy life. There was truly something awe inspiring and humbling the Greek Isles. I hope to one day go back.
