Spectra Energy wants to frack with NY! What do we do? Stand up! Fight back!
(Ride leaves 2pm sharp. Second meet up at 3pm at Pier 54 where we will be joined by Rev Billy and the Church of Earthalujah for a blessing! Pedestrian-friendly action!)
They are hoping to build a... 16 mile fracked gas pipeline from New Jersey to NY, stored in the West Village, right under the Highline park. Hell no!
Join us as we ride around the West Village to alert the public about the dangers and demand a green New York. Time to get off fossil fuels and wake up to a renewable revolution!
Dress up!
-Monochromatic colors representing any of the frack fluids! -Dress as a green energy alternative- a windmill, solar panel, turbine, etc.
- Dress as fire from the explosion that could happen
-Be creative! Be visual!
-Convergence with all OWS Health, Environmental and Food actions at City Hall 5:30pm
Top 10 reasons why the Spectra Pipeline is a terrible idea:
1) It’s a danger to local residents.
2) Spectra has a history of safety issues.
3) Pipeline regulation and oversight is sorely inadequate.
4) We don’t need more gas, demand is flat.
5) The gas is intended for export.
6) Projected supplies are limited. Shale gas is a bubble.
7) It increases the demand to frack.
8) Gas will worsen, not improve our air quality.
9) It could increase our risk from Radon.
10) It’s the wrong direction. Our future is renewable.
