#DoodlewashJanuary2022 Prompt: Iceberg
Did you know that floating blocks of ice are only "icebergs" when they are larger than 5 meters (16 feet) across? The smaller chunks of ice are called "bergy bits" or "growlers". Often they're more dangerous because they're harder to see.

#DoodlewashSeptember2024 prompt: Historic.
Did you know most settlers who followed the Oregon Trail left in April or May and arrived at their destination in early October? Leaving too early meant there were no grass for t heir animals to graze on, and too late meant they’d have to contend with more summer storms and winter snows.

An example done for my review of the Ocher 'Terra' Watercolour - 24 half pan palette from Sister’s Ink.
Sister’s Ink Ocher 'Terra' Watercolour palette is a unique palette of handmade paints full of earthy yellows, reds, and browns. This is a palette designed to create rich Australian Outback landscapes. It also has enough blue and green to make it possible to paint a wider range of subjects - you know me. I like to show you just how flexible a palette can be!
These are pan paints with a lovely felt case to hold the clear acrylic palette. You can find my review at Doodlewash: doodlewash.com/ocher-terra-watercolour-palette-sisters-in...

#DoodlewashSEPTEMBER2024 prompt: Barn, Shoes.
Did you know that around the 2nd century AD, the Romans used ‘hipposandals’ on their horses, a thick metal plate secured to the hoof with leather laces? They weren’t very comfortable for the horses and soon they began using nailed shoes. By the way, in Ancient Greek, hippo translated to horse.

#DoodlewashJanuary2022 Prompt: Airplane.
Did you know the air pressure and low humidity in a plane makes it hard for you to tast sweet and salty flavors? That airline food might not be as bad as you think (but probably is, lol).
This month the Doodlewash prompts are in alphabetical order. I decided that I would start the year off in much the same way I started learning to read – with a primer. I’ll probably regret it, but I’ll have fun anyway!

#DoodlewashJanuary2022 Prompt: Mug.
Tomorrow, I have a review of the Kaleidolines Starter Kit that I've been using for this series. It will be posted at Doodlewash!
Did you know the word “mug” was once boxing slang for striking someone in the face? Eventually, it came to refer to small photo portraits, which led to the term 'mugshots'.

Did you know at one time pumpkins were used as a cure for freckles and snakebite?
I couldn’t find any information on how they used it for freckle removal. Smear pumpkin innards all over your face?
I’m playing with a set of glittery Halloween colors that I’ll be reviewing sometime in October. Soooo hard to get a good photo! It’s driving me nuts!

I'm a complete birdbrain these days! This week in my watercolor class, we did three paintings of the same bird, using a different color scheme for each. You can read more about that at my blog: bit.ly/1VvD0nr

It took me almost all day but it's done. I didn't get all the molossus tangles in, I know I missed Inersis and Zanella. But I did include Embellish, Japonica, Crossroads, Warangaie, Vorte, Efilys, Planateen, Fohbraid, Slalom, and Wisket. A couple of the tangles I did a little variation on the original Sandra drew. This was a blast. To do it, I inked an 8 x 8 piece of smooth card stock with sponges; copied it onto watercolor paper, drew the strings (I started with Sandra's template #10, but added a couple more strings to get more tangles in, drew the tangles, and then sponged on a little more color here and there. I didn't do any real shading, because I didn't want to use graphite, and I wasn't sure how to do it. But I like it pretty much like it is.
Ok, here's what I did with the finished draft. On the left, it's simply shaded. The shaded piece is a photocopy because I knew that Giverny really deserves color, but I wanted to see it shaded too. The shaded version was copied onto cold press paper, and would have been better on hotpress. Oh, well! The colored original is colored with Derwent Inktense pencils with and without water. Since it's an "Impressionist" type piece, I wasn't too careful about overlapping colors, etc. It only took about 3 hours to do all the versions. SO MUCH FUN!! Thanks, Traci and Sandra.
Inspired by Sandra Stsraight and Traci. I chose one of Monet's landscape paintings he did at Giverny. I can't show you the original because of copywrite laws. I think I picked something fairly difficult for my first try, but, here's what I did anyway.Anyway, I took quite a bit of liberty with his painting; changed the bridge to a wall since it was easier for example. Added tree trunks to lower sides to frame the scene, etc. The next photo shows how I shaded one copy and watercolored another one. Hope you like what I did.
OK, here are some more molossus tangles. Wisket, Opeto, Pickerel, Pipkin, Zapatealo, Sisilhoa, Galatea...(wow, those names; hope I got them right). I messed up almost all of them; but like the overall effect anyway. And I officially cry Uncle, Sandra! When I said I'd do all your tangles I thought you had 10-15 of them; not close to 300!!! I may do a few more now and then, but consider the challenge complete, lol!
