A snowy owl doing his stretches on a sandbar. Photographing stretching snowy owls is a favorite of mine. Just as much as the flight shots.

Sarasota is a dream place to enjoy boating, but one warning it has many sandbars and shallow parts. If you look, one can see in this photo, the strip of lighter colour in the water running the length of the photo that is a sandbar. One has to get to know the waterways until one is really comfortable boating with confidence. We have had some interesting times over the years.

Sharing a little more of the sandbar that became the subject of a week long obsession. I found myself looking forward to low tides so I could walk out and study it more. Dawn visits worked best, before the footprints came to spoil my canvas. This made as the tide returned, lapping away at the edges. Each retreat bringing new patterns and shapes, tiny canyons and scribes made from countless grains. The art of the sea.

...beautiful sandbars abound in Bohol Island, Philippines.

This image was taken at Lake Yellowstone. I discoverd the sandbar in the afternoon and thought it might line up nicely with Milky Way.

Unfortunately I had only about 30 minutes between astronomical dusk and moonrise. Therefore, I did not have time to experiment.

On the other hand I was quite glad when I could pack my stuff and leave at moonrise. During my visit in the afternoon I saw a lot of wildlife in the area and it was eerie to be alone out there in the middle of the night...
